From a fresh face in the cigar industry comes the Epic Cigars Maduro Reserva. This oily black wrapped cigar has a delicious blend of Brazilian Arapiraca for the wrapper, Dominican Olor for the binder, and a blend of Dominican piloto; seco; and Ligero for the filler. The cigar definitely delivers some epic tastes of espresso, nuts, and dark chocolate which are complemented by an underlying spice. This cigar, though dark, delivers a medium bodied smoke which is slow burning and enjoyable.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

The Northern State of Alagoas hosts a production around the city of Arapiraca where maduro wrappers are grown.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Cameroon tobacco is fragile and thin but gives the cigar a sweet and light flavor. It is cultivated in the West African countries of Cameroon and Central African Republic.

Dominican Republic
Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

I recieved an Epic cigar as part of a Father's Day gift last year and upon smoking the very first one I thought that the cigar had earned a spot in my humidor. Great taste and burn. Very hard to find at least around my area and I have only found them on Neptune Cigars online.

I admit that I may have preferred to get a bit more complexity out of the Epic but that doesn’t mean this cigar doesn’t earn a spot in my humidor. I can see myself smoking his cigar after a meal on a night that I am not looking to crush my palette with something more powerful. Not to mention the appearance and construction of the Epic Maduro Reserva are truly a sight to behold.

This cigar is built like a tank. Upon unwrapping, my first thoughts were on the rigidity of the stick and the sweet smell (almost smells of Red Mann chewing tobacco). After lighting, the sent and taste take on spicy flora characteristics with a very light straw flavor after taste. Draw is smooth and consistent with just a bit of effort required to get a mouth full of smoke. The burn is fairly even and leaves a cone tip after each ashing. The wrapper is attractive and the cap on this cigar requires a quality cutter to cut through. It leaves a slight bite on the tongue. Overall a good smoke. Compliments a cup of coffee very well.

The Epic Maduro robusto has a combination of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco, and combined with the Brazilian wrapper it provides a rich, bold taste that will satisfy even the most particular of maduro smokers. The draw was immaculate, the burn was even throughout, and the amount of smoke was relentless. Highly recommended.
