To memorialize 25 years of crafting premium cigars, Rocky Patel released the Rocky Patel Quarter Century. Beautifully hand crafted in Nicaragua, this milestone cigar uses tobacco that has been aged for 10 years prior to rolling. Then the cigars are allowed to age for two more years to allow their unique flavor and aroma to develop. Founded in the mid-1990s, Rocky Patel is known for developing cigars that appeal to veteran as well as novice cigar aficionados.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. San Andres Maduro is a thick, medium bodied dark leaf, also called San Andres Morron. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres Maduro is stalk cut and used for binder and wrapper.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.

I see reviews are mixed, a love it or leave it response. I mostly love it with a couple minor quibbles. Mine was a bit dry with a slightly uneven burn and almost went out on me a couple times. But it was tasty with that woody nutty and zesty San Andres flavor that I like with a good solid draw. A bit pricy but overall I enjoyed it.

I was excited to give this cigar a review due to the lengthy aging process it has gone through. Also, I’m a sucker for Mexican San Andres wrappers! I happily toasted the cigar and got a blast of dark pepper and deep fig flavors. Puffing down an inch, I hit a smooth leather and fresh cut cedar on the retro hale. Cruising into the half way point I caught a few notes of cinnamon that complimented the sweet cedar tastes. Entering the last quarter the smoke slightly intensified and gave more of a caramel and creaminess that made my mouth salivate. At this point, I had to put the cigar down so I don’t burn my fingers and lips (again). The lingering aftertaste was of dark robust coffee. This is a spectacularly crafted aged cigar. Pairing this with a spiced rum or Jack and Coke would make this an even more awesome experience. Enjoy!

Love this smoke!! After trying one, I was sold and purchased the box. I tried both the toro and the 60, preferred the 60. Nice even slow burn, well balanced taste remains consistent throughout the experience. For my particular likes, this is a wonderful stick, and kudos to Rocky Patel! Congrats on 25 yrs!

Another winner in amongst the more newly introduced cigars from Rocky Patel. More recently, there's been a shift in Rocky's blending of the cigars that he's been putting out in which the focus is on balance. The cigar is filled with rich flavors, somewhere in-between the lines of a maduro and a sungrown, with notes of chocolate, light cream and espresso. Barely any notable spice either which helps to not overwhelm your palate if you like to retrohale your cigars. The trick here is to leave these sitting in the humidor for a few months before giving them a go. I tried one right out of the gate, of which I wasn't overly impressed, but after 4 months or so, the cigar started to hit it's stride. Can only imagine what another few more months would have done to the cigar.

Was not expecting to give this a bad review but man this was a disappointment. The flavors and aromatics are just average, the cigar cracked when I cut it, and at $12 I was expecting a whole heck of a lot more quality. No wow factor here. Try the new Patel Grand Reserve instead and get much better quality. This is not a rebuy. Pretty bad when you don't deliver on a 25th anniversary blend.
