Liga Undercrown Cigars

Drew Estate ran into a problem when they noticed that their rollers were smoking a bit too many of their prestigious Liga Privada cigars, thereby depleting their precious inventory. Rather than slapping wrists, Drew Estate decided to take the opportunity to invent a new twist on a proven hit, and using the same tobaccos found in Liga Privada except from different batches and primings along with an oily Mexican San Andres wrapper, created Liga Undercrown. A fan-favorite, Undercrown has since also been released with an Ecuadorian Shade wrapper to tone it down to a still extremely rich mild to medium-bodied smoke for those lighter moments in life.

The Liga Undercrown 10 celebrates the tenth anniversary of a cigar brand that was developed not by a master blender, but by the hard-working rollers at Drew Estate. The Liga Undercrown, a highly rated cigar, came about when the rollers at Drew Estate were asked not to smoke so much Liga Privada in the factory. In response, the rollers created their own blend using the same rare tobaccos used in the Liga Privada, but from different primings and vintages. Thus, an awesome cigar was “Born on the Factory Floor,” literally. The Liga Undercrown 10 is a potent, full-bodied cigar that features a very savory, oily Mexican San Andres wrapper expertly wound around a USA Connecticut Broadleaf binder and long-filler leaves from Nicaragua. This anniversary stick is “All Dekked Out” with a special ribbon, band and foot band, and tucked inside a commemorative collectible box. Since 2014 Drew Estate has released a version of the Liga Undercrown Dojo Dogma. It is a special edition cigar that pays tribute to the cigar aficionados who run the popular website “Cigar Dojo.” According to their site, Cigar Dojo aims to “present the best cigar reviews on the web”. This latest release uses the Undercrown Sun Grown, which was named Cigar of the Year for 2017 by Cigar Dojo. Handmade in Nicaragua, it is a full-bodied stick that sports a radiant red-hued Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed wrapper draped over a Connecticut Habano binder and a Nicaraguan filler. The Liga Undercrown Sun Grown Dojo Dogma is available in singles as well as 20-count collectible boxes that feature the Drew Estate and Cigar Dojo logos.

NeptuneCigar.com All cigars/cigarillos should be stored in a humidor. Not doing so will cause the tobacco to dry which will affect the burn. The cigars you do not need to place in a humidor are dry cured. An example of a dry cured cigar is Toscano.

Other than the Flying Pig this is my favorite vitola for the Undercrown Maduro line. 46 is a perfect ring gauge and this feel like the correct length to suit it. If you've had the more upscale Liga stuff from Drew Estate, this is noticeably less interesting and more monotone, but it's still an excellent stick. The construction is beautiful, absolutely perfect, cannot get better. The burn is super long on this stick, nearly 2 hours if you care to take your time. The flavors are a very suave, dusty cocoa and an avalanche of peppery spice, which comes across a little aggressive for me. If you love tons of spice though you'll be pleased this this. The Maduro Flying Pig gets higher marks for me for what I feel is a sweeter and more balanced profile. Fans of the Liga Privada line will understand that this stick is less than half of the price for a reason, but that it's still a really beautifully-constructed everyday/budget stick. All things considered, excellent.

I know this is heresy, but I actually prefer this to the No. 9 Flying Pig. This one is a touch softer, which gives it some extra headroom, feeling less compressed, and the notes therefore coming through with greater clarity. Again, just my palate, but I find this preferable to the darker No 9 and T52 Pigs which come across as overwhelming and occasionally sharp to me. While it's not what I'd call a cheap smoke, it doesn't hurt that this is a good deal less expensive and easier to find than the higher-end Drew Estate Flying Pigs. The profile is exuberantly deep, sweet, and smooth as anything, hitting all of the desirable notes for fans of Mexican San Andres tobacco and of maduro tobacco alike: cocoa, toasted nuts, leather, honey sweetness. If you love both, I anticipate that you will go nuts for this cigar. The burn and draw and construction are all fantastic, with some of the most beautiful ash I've ever seen, emerging like rings from the petrified log of an oak tree, with an attractive wabi-sabi uniformity that is both a mark of quality and a pleasure to watch unfold. Highly recommended.

Have only tried one and I liked it quite a bit. Had higher expectations of chocolate since it has been described as a Mexican hot chocolate type of smoke. The dry aroma of the cigar had a very chocolatey smell. I got a dry cocoa powder with some spice. Will try again.

I'm no aficionado but these little cigars are great. I needed something smaller to smoke in the summers down in Louisiana when it's too hot to sit out for an hour just to have a cigar. Nice construction, easy draw, pretty even burn; only needed a few touchups after the halfway point. Got lots of thick smoke but with some offputting sour/salty notes at the start. It mellowed out some and got creamier and oakier after the first ash fell.

Drew Estate always seems to hit home runs, and sometimes, they will release special versions of their popular blends to even greater success and acclaim than the original. Such is the case with the Undercrown Sungrown Dojo Dogma. This box-pressed beauty is squared-off, unlike its rounder cousins, and I believe that that is the reason for its different taste profile. The strength somehow feels amped up versus the original, bordering more on the full-bodied side rather than medium, and the notes found also were more pronounced here. Normally I'm not too fond of spicy/peppery cigars, but the Dojo Dogma provides a classy touch of it, just enough to make your mouth water and take another puff. I also found delicious notes of earth and cedar, with a touch of graham cracker towards the end. Smoke output is tremendous, as per usual with Drew Estate offerings. Construction was great, with an even burn the whole way (albeit with an admittedly flakey ash). Made in Nicaragua, the Undercrown Sungrown Dojo Dogma is a super solid stick that will satisfy even the most picky of smokers. Enjoy with a spiced rum or a cognac to really enhance the natural sweetness of the retro hale even more. Cheers!

This is one of my all time favorite cigars. The oily San Andres Maduro is beautiful and the band makes it look fancier than it is. The draw and burn are both amazing. The aroma is very nice as well. This cigar has notes of sweetness and spice in a medium-full profile. An all around great smoke!

I will admit, when it comes to smoking, I am mostly a creature of habit. I do enjoy my regular rotation, but every once in a while, it is always good to get out of your comfort zone. I did just that with this great cigar. The Liga Undercrown Connecticut Shade Corona is a great mild to medium bodied cigar. The color of the leaf may throw you off a bit, looking very much like a super light cigar. It is not. At first light, you are introduced to a nice hint of spice and woody notes. Upon retro hale, a nice hint of cedar is still also noticeable. The draw on it is smooth and easy. At the halfway point, all the notes and flavors are still present in full force. The burn on it has remained nice and even from the get-go, and the aroma is inviting. Towards the end of the cigar, the spice settles down just a little bit. To sum up, although I purposely went outside the box on this one, I was still secretly hoping that this Undercrown Shade wouldn't be TOO light, and I'm happy to report that this was not the case. I really enjoyed this cigar, and would recommend this stick to anyone looking for a great mild-medium smoke. I would say that this will be a great morning cigar, pairing excellently with a coffee. Enjoy!

Another interesting discovery in my cigar appreciation & discovery. This is a revisit as I have tried my fair share of undercrown madu in other sizes. This is not the same complex flavor profile. However, if taken for what it is: a good short inexpensive smoke never meant to replace a Robusto; this is a pretty good cigar for the money and the time spared to enjoy it. BTW it does taste like the undercrown maduro, just the basic flavors.

The Liga Undercrown Maduro Gran Toro caught my attention just from its history, especially for the reason it was made. This blend was made by the rollers at Drew Estate to be similar to the Liga Privada line since they were not allowed to smoke the Liga Privada cigars, and then tweaked to perfect the blend. This beautiful looking cigar has an oily Mexican San Andreas Maduro Wrapper, which just happens to be my favorite wrapper making it a huge plus. A Habano Connecticut Binder and Brazilian Mata Fina and Nicaraguan Habano filler make this the perfect trio. As soon as I lit this cigar I already knew it was just that, notes of chocolate and a good amount of pepper right off the start, with an amazing smoke output as well. The cigar transitions into a bit of earthiness in the middle, but the strong chocolate notes are still there with a hint of cocoa. As the cigar hits the end, a bit of what seems like vanilla and just the right amount of pepper stays lingering, but the chocolate notes are still dominant and the smoke output is beautiful. This cigar is medium to full body and would pair absolutely lovely with a good whiskey.

Cold draw is moisty moss and mushrooms but totally different on the first puffs. It starts very peppery and a bit of spice but the pepper dies down quickly. Filler with vintage tobacco, for sure. Not to be smoked on an empty stomach.

Love the tobacco used by drew estate. Ive bought boxes of most of their non-flavored lines. Unfortuantely, construction is poor,,,bad draw, and burn is very common. Serious tunneling issues. If they could get a Padron like consistency in the roll, would be a superb brand.

Everyone who knows me, knows that I am a huge fan of Drew Estate, especially their Liga lines, so when I heard that the Liga Undercrown 10 was released I was more than ecstatic. The Undercrown 10 celebrates a decade of dedication; the Undercrown brand is known as the brand that was "Born on the Factory Floor" and celebrates its 10 years with this Cigar. This cigar just looks perfect, and it comes in the wonderful Corona Viva size that I love. The blue and gold emblem and my favorite wrapper, the beautiful and oily Mexican San Andreas Maduro Wrapper. Lighting this baby up and right off the bat hit with the peppery and spicy start that I have come to expect from the Undercrown line, albeit this one definitely shows a bit more power. But notes of leather and chocolate are right behind it making the flavor perfect. Near the second third I get hints of vanilla, cocoa, chocolate, leather, and a good amount of pepper as well. These stay consistent all the way to the end, making me want to smoke it all the way to the nub. This definitely is on the stronger side, a full body full flavor cigar that I would recommend having after a good meal, but an absolutely MUST try. A good scotch or whiskey with this is the best pairing, one of my new go-to cigars for its incredible price and taste.

Today I wanted to take a break from the sun and sit with some shade... The Undercrown Connecticut Shade Flying Pig that is. This size has always intrigued me and many other smokers. I removed it from the cellophane, twisted off the pigtail cap, and took off the foot band to start toasting this hog. Right at the first puff I noticed smooth and creamy notes with a slight black pepper on the tongue. The draw is easy with very little resistance and allows the plumes of smoke that Drew Estate is known for to flow through. Halfway in, the flavor notes stay consistent but have had a slight twist of freshly toasted white bread. As I got closer to the last third and taking the main band off, the smoke slightly intensified, and body picked up to a medium. Once I approached the end of the smoke, it started to burn my fingertips due to not wanting to put it down, it had such a nice nutty and roasted almond taste! Now when I started on this cigar, I thought it would only burn for about 30-40 minutes looking at its size. Alas, I was amazed that it lasted an hour-plus, likely thanks to its hefty ring gauge. While smoking this cigar I had a Brisk raspberry tea with a splash of tequila and lemon. This cigar is truly a special (and rare) size and is certainly worth every puff. Go grab a couple of these piggies, your favorite drink and a couple of friends and fly as a pack.

The Liga Undercrown Maduro Flying Pig draws attention just from its shape, who doesn’t love a flying pig! This blend was made by the rollers at Drew Estate to be similar to the Liga Privada line since they were not allowed to smoke the Liga Privada cigars, and then tweaked to perfect the blend. This beautiful looking cigar has an oily Mexican San Andreas Maduro Wrapper, which just happens to be my favorite wrapper making it a huge plus. The beautiful blue and gold Undercrown band just makes it seem like this cigar is going to be royalty just by the look of it. As soon as I lit this cigar I already knew it was just that, notes of dark chocolate and a bit of pepper right off the start, with an amazing amount of smoke output as well. The cigar transitions into a bit of earthiness in the middle, but the chocolate notes are still there with a hint of cocoa. As the cigar hits the end a bit of what seems like vanilla and the pepper comes back but nothing to harsh to my taste. This cigar I would say is medium to full body with AMAZING taste and smoke output definitely a must try. Drew Estate never disappoints, get it today before the pigs fly away!

You might expect this to be a quick smoke--and it is--but it lasts longer than I thought. The burn is slow and even. It's a terrific cigar all way 'round. It delivers subtle sweetness and a satisfying smoking experience. I actually tasted angel food cake at one point.

I tried the Undercrown Connecticut in the absence of the Liga Privada No.9 Flying Pig. Is obviously not the same, given that this is a mild cigar and the No.9 is a Robusto. Yet I decided to give it a try. For my surprise, is not bad! Has a great taste to it, a little spicy to the tongue, the aroma is very nice, and it pair beautifully with Macallan 18.

Also had burn issues. I know, I know - it's comparing apples to oranges. I just didn't appreciated this one as much. May just need some time put away, maybe a year or two.

Firm, but effortless draw and burned straight as a razor. The combination of the San Andres and Nicaraguan tobaccos blended in a stunning smoke. I noted, spice, earth, leather, a slight hint of caramel and coffee. Absolutely a first-rate smoke in all aspects. Whatever is on that factory floor is solid gold. After reading the reviews here, I was looking forward to this cigar. I was very disappointed with this smoke. I found it to be bland and I couldn't taste any of the notes that others have mentioned here. It is very possible that the fault lies with me, being a relative new-comer to cigars, but I have smoked quite a few over the last couple of years, and have a decent (for me) stockpile of cigars I really enjoy, that have lots of flavour and aroma.

The Liga Undercrown Dojo Dogma Sun Grown uses a sun-grown Ecuadorian Sumatra seed wrapper, a stalk cut and cured Connecticut River Valley Habano leaf binder, and fillers from Nicaragua. Since 2014, Drew Estate has released a version of the Liga Undercrown Dojo Dogma. It is a special edition cigar that pays tribute to the cigar aficionados who run the popular website “Cigar Dojo.” When I lit the cigar, the first draw delivered a mix of natural tobacco and fruit sweetness. There were also some notes of earth and a slight tingly spice. During the first third, I found notes of natural tobacco sweetness, earth, and red pepper. The natural tobacco notes quickly took on more earth and wood. The red pepper receded to the background. I also detected a mix of red pepper and wood on the retro hale. During the second third, the woody notes started to increase in intensity. At the same time, the natural tobacco slowly moved to woody notes. In the final third, I noticed the woody notes were still in control. The pepper notes were a close second. Meanwhile, the pepper and natural tobacco sweetness moved to the background. This cigar maintained a straight burn path from start to finish with a beautiful draw. I found the Liga Undercrown Dojo Sun Grown to be an enjoyable cigar.

Great construction. Some minor retouching along the way. Flavors are on the woody side with dark slightly bitter cocoa and aged tobacco in the background. I got no sweetness and a mild (jalapeno) pepper in retrohale. 2 or 3 transitions with last third more flavorful and a noticeable nicotine kick that's not overpowering. Good with a nice bourbon.

Okay, so I've become a fan of the Liga Undercrown Cigars... After several years of Gurkha Cigars, I've found a strong competitor in the Liga's. I have to say, these 6"x60's are as good, and maybe just better than my favorite Gurkha, the "Park Lane". Neptune doesn't carry them, or I'd smoke some back to back to be sure. I've read a few reviews of the Liga Undercrown Shades, I can only say that I think that each of us has our own taste buds. As for mine, well, I have to say that this is one of my favorite cigars. In fact, after smoking two of them, I called Neptune and ordered some fat ones, 6x60's. Ten of em! If I had a fatter wallet, I'd of orderded a box, but ten of those ran near a hundred bucks. Now, I can't say anymore than that. I like em, you may not. I'll order more too. In fact, my Humidor will probably always have a few inside.

This cigar is, based on price, taste and marketing, one saves for a special occasion. The construction and appearance as one might expect from Drew Estate is top notch for the Flying Pig. Initial light required some due diligence due to construction and end cut but nothing that detracts. The worst part of this smoke is the initial impressions which are overwhelmingly seasoned wood and iodine with a bit of chocolate mixed in. Thankfully this transitions quickly to a rich earthy and compost component with the iodine becoming a complimentary flavor rather than one which stood to ruin the experience as it was want to do on first light. As others have mentioned this is one stout old boar and I found myself, despite smoking premiums for forty years, having to nurse the last third to prevent from being overwhelmed. I recommend this have a place in your humidor for appropriate special occasions. An uneven burn mid way through did not detract from my score: 92

This, in my humble opinion is a fine "Medium" flavored cigar. A little high priced for me to smoke regularly, but ordering a handful will certainly become a habit. Neptune offers the opportunity to buy in this fashion, and I'm happy to do so. Several reviewers have stated that it's not that "great" a smoke, for the price. Personal preference I guess. For me, each one has been an enjoyable smoke, and a great way to kill an hour, sitting on my porch watching the day turn to night. That said, I'll be ordering some each time I place an order with Neptune.

When you think Liga, you may think of the No. 9, T52, or the infamous Flying Pigs. But, they also have this little gem called the Liga Undercrown Connecticut. At first glance, you'll likely think 'mild cigar'. I know I did. Never judge a book by its cover! This cigar surprised me. It's actually a smooth medium to medium-bodied cigar. It has a smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, with a Sumatra binder and combination of a Dominican Criollo 98, Nicaraguan Corojo, and Criollo fillers that really enhance the cigar's flavor. At first light, you are introduced to some cedar notes and some earth tones. It's different from what I have smoked before. Half way through the cigar, some spice is introduced. Not enough that will want to make you stop smoking, but just enough to make the cigar still enjoyable. The cedar notes are still present approaching the final third, and the spice does not overwhelm the flavor at any point. Toward the end of the cigar, you still get that nice flavor of cedar and earth tones. This, my friends, is a truly great cigar made by Willy Herrera that I'm sure most smokers will appreciate. Pick one up today and see for yourself.

Well constructed Cigar with nice underlying flavor profile. Comparison to Liga Privada is fair like if this stick was rated a 7 -8 on a 0 - 10 scale. The real Liga Privada on the same scale would be rated IMHO over the 10 at top of scale. Honeslty at about 50% of the cost for the Real Ligs Privada T -52, I would call this a GREAT Cigar for the price.

Being a big fan of Undercrown I had to try their Undercrown Shade and what better way to try it than the short and to the point coronet. The cigar at 4" * 32 lasts about 30-45 minutes and is delicious every minute. The draw of the cigar is easy and with a lot of smoke as expected from an Undercrown cigar. The cigar has this sweetness behind the woody and earthy tones. The refined flavors of the cigar pair well with a dainty coffee. Cigar is great for a short break or a quick smoke in the cold. Pick one up, you wont regret it.

I love this fat, perfecto shaped cigar--who can resist? With a beautiful San Andres Mexican oscuro wrapper, the flavor pops out like crazy. This cigar is definitely a longer smoke than it looks --took about an hour. Construction was flawless from start to finish--huge smoke output, perfect draw, long and strong white ash. I also love the pig tail top--a built in easy punch. Upon first light, the flying pig takes on the usual Undercrown notes of wood and citrus. Black pepper also apparent. Into the second third, same notes but more creaminess comes into play--delicious. Some dried fruit notes are also hanging around. Into the last third, same notes but a great balance of sweetness and spiciness stayed until the very end. I was very impressed. The cigar finished cool to the very end, no harshness at all. This cigar is definitely full in flavor but medium in strength. Definitely a worthwhile cigar to smoke--highly recommended!!

Wasn't quite sure what to expect when I tried this cigar. Presentation, overall looks, aesthetics and performance this cigar is definitely a "younger brother" of the Liga Privada line. This is a wonderful smoke and I'm sure I could smell a hint of cola at the foot. It started a little harsh at first but quickly corrected itself into a smooth medium body smoke. Taste and aroma was delicious throughout and by the final third it moved towards full body taste. This is one cigar I'll be smoking repeatedly. This is definitely a great cigar for those of us who have a champagne taste but on a beer budget.

This is a winner, of course being a fan of everything Drew Estate, this cigar delivers every time. I have tried various sizes of this stick and agree that robustos burn a bit hotter thereby changing the flavor profile a bit. This is definitely a full bodies cigar and not for beginner.

This stick's unusual shape made me put down my key-chain punch and use a guillotine and the burn got a bit stubborn moving up the opening to the fatter part of the cigar (I used a match). That being said, it's a deceptively long smoke given its length. Easy draw, plenty of smoke and a little spicy in the final third. Worth a try...

I wanted to try something different and added this to my cart for a more unique experience. I thought there was a disconnect here for the price point and quality, as i've had better quality tobacco for the money. Was not my most memorable smoke nor would I put them as a regular on my shopping list. The taste and aroma were simply mediocre, I had hoped for more complexity and kick from the fillers and wrapper used.

My anticipation of this stick was high. I had been hearing nothing but rave reviews from everybody I talked to and online. I wasn't disappointed. Looks great, tastes great. Make sure you set aside some time because this one is a slow burner. This will be a regular tenant in my humidor.

I love the flavor and dense smoke these cigars provide, but there is something about the wrapper that I just don't like. It has a slightly odd taste to it. Other than that Undercrown is a winner in my book.

Not having the luxury of time, or wealth, doesn't mean you can't have a luxury cigar. The Undercrown's price and the robusto's size offer a wealth of luxurious smoke in a great package. I prefer the larger size, but this one has become a staple in my humidor. Smooth, rich, flavorful.

This cigar has a nice taste that's easy in the mouth, but a bit of bitterness to remind you of the full bodied flavor of the Maduro wrapper. One of the best cigars with a maduro I've smoked in a while. Recommended for those who are looking for a great cigar with a pure taste of tobacco. Even though it's a little thin, be prepared for a 45 minute to an hour smoke, give or take.

Drew Estate put out another great cigar for the masses when they released the Undercrown. Excellent construction with great taste and burn time. At about 1/2 the price of the Ligga Privada #9 it's a real winner in my book. I'll be looking to add more of these to my humidor.

The undercrown is my favorite cigar the undercrown pig is a fantastic smoke my only negative is they don't last very long the robusto lasts a lot longer and is half the price and your not limited to 2 my recommendation is buy the other sizes they are fantastic

Great smoke and rates high, but you definitely pay a premium for the novelty of smoking the elusive "pig", which makes it impractical for most people to consider as an everyday smoke. As much as I enjoyed it, I don't think it's worth $12, I'd say it should be in the $6 to $8 range, but DE is as good at marketing as they are at cigar making

I love this cigar! Super smooth, no harshness at all, produces a ton of thick smoke. Nice chocolate and nutty notes with sweetness. Draw was on the loose side and burn started to tunnel on me but that wasn't until the end with literally about an inch left. Definitely buying more of these.
