Davidoff Yamasa is the culmination of 20 years of work and determination to grow tobacco in a place where everyone said it could not be done: the Yamasa region in the Dominican Republic. The tobacco grown in Yamasa is used for binder and wrapper in this cigar, giving the smoke an earthy taste. The cigar is then balanced with Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers that add spice and sweetness to the blend. Nuts, spice, coffee, cedar wood and black pepper are also present in the profile.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
The main tobacco region in the Dominican Republic is the Cibao valley in the northern part of the island. In the 60s, Cuban seeds were brought here by exiled Cuban cigar makers and found that they grew exceptional cigar tobacco, called Piloto Cubano. The native Dominican tobacco, called Olor, is milder than Piloto Cubano yet more aromatic. The first company to grow Dominican tobacco for cigar wrapper was Tabacalera Arturo Fuente in 1995.
Binder
Dominican Republic
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Dominican Republic is a traditional tobacco-growing country. In the 60's, a Cuban seed was introduced and the resulting tobacco, called Piloto Cubano, became famous as a good substitute of the Cuban tobacco that was no longer allowed to enter the USA. Piloto Cubano is full bodied while the Dominican Olor tobacco is milder but more aromatic.
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

Construction and draw were flawless as they should be at this price. This stick was quite unusual of course many sticks have changed in flavor as you smoke but this one was the first I have had as far as I remember that totally changed smoke texture. The first half or so was a totally syrupy smoke that coated your mouth which was great but then turned to a super dry smoke very unique and worth giving a try. Flavors were somewhat sweet and earthy

Amanzingly vivid and tasteful. A regular and consistent burn lasting easily more than 60 minutes in my experience. Choose a sunny day after lunch at the garden, get a good cachaça, rum or old cognac and feel happy for just being alive. Kudos to Davidoff.

This is a beautiful and well built cigar. Given Davidoff’s history an place in the cigar world I was surprised to find ‘sticks’ small tobacco roots, in the Yamasa. The sticks through the otherwise even burn off necessitating relights to offset the toboggan burn. Dry aroma was nirvana but the overall flavor was just OK at best and I don’t consider it a full flavored smoke. I expected a higher flavor profile but ya live and learn… 87 to 89 (maybe) in my view!

The Davidoff Yamasa Robusto is a beautiful light-dark brown cigar that contains premium Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers, and, for the first time ever, tobacco from the Dominican region of Yamasa making up the binder and wrapper on this super quality smoke. This cigar has a gorgeous, oily brown wrapper with a fair number of large veins and noticeable seams that telegraph notes of cocoa, earth and cedar. From the first puff of this full-bodied cigar, you can taste the earth and cedar with a little bit of spice. During the second third, you can feel the spice and pepper pick up, but it was not overpowering. It still maintained its smoothness and natural tobacco with cocoa notes. In the final third, the mix of flavors continued with a little more earthy taste. This stick has a solid burn with an impressive white-gray ash. In conclusion, the Davidoff Yamasa Robusto is a good cigar with complex flavors and a rich blend. I recommend it if you like full bodied cigars and want to try something different. Enjoy!

What a cigar! Smoked it on Christmas day 2018 (a gift from my wife). Great flavor and construction. A bit strong at the start, but settled to around medium/medium+ after 15 minutes. I smoked the robusto and it took me almost 2 and a half hours to finish it!
