The Alec Bradley Project 40 Maduro is a line extension to the Project 40 brand. Whereas the first release featured a Nicaraguan Colorado wrapper, this iteration sports a dark chocolatey Mexican San Andres maduro wrapper. The Project 40 brand was inspired by the motivational tenet that everyone is in control of their happiness. Alec Bradley founder, Alan Rubin believes that this principle can be applied to cigars. The Project 40 brand’s goal is to enrich a positive experience through the act of smoking a high-quality cigar at an affordable price.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Mexican San Andres Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. San Andres Maduro is a thick, medium bodied dark leaf, also called San Andres Morron. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres Maduro is stalk cut and used for binder and wrapper.

Brazil
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Brazil grows tobacco from North to South. The East Central State of Bahia is an important cigar tobacco producer. The growing area is about 100 miles west of the state capital, Salvador da Bahia, an active port on the Atlantic Coast. The Northern State of Alagoas hosts a production around the city of Arapiraca where maduro wrappers are grown. The Southern states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina produce tobacco for cigarettes and pipe.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

I had really high expectations for this stick and it fell flat right from the moment it was lit. The one thing that drives me insane is a weak draw. Sucking on this stick nearly gave me a back ache!!! Flavors are extremely mild, if at all noticeable. I didn't get the Project 50 experience at all because I was struggling to enjoy this sucker. Sorry Alan. This ain't it bub.

It have a good flavor. Rig was loose inside the cellophane and wrapper was kind of dry and started to peel of as I cut the cap, making a bit of a messy experience.

A decent budget smoke. The burn and draw were very good with tons of smoke. Flavor notes were, chocolate, coffee, and earth. They weren’t the most refined flavors but for under six bucks they were good. The final third got a bit harsh.

Alan Rubin, the founder of Alec Bradley, states that a person's happiness is broken down into 3 different categories. 50% comes from genetics. 10% is based on circumstances. The remaining 40% is controlled by a person's thinking process. That is how the name for this cigar came to be. What first caught my eye on this cigar was the handsome dark wrapper. At first light, you are introduced to a nice flavor of earthy tones and cedar, with a subtle hint of spice also underlying. The San Andreas wrapper and Brazilian Habano binder gives you that great taste that makes the cigar rich and enjoyable. It has a nice medium strength at the start. At the halfway point of the cigar, a nice hint of coffee makes itself known, with the original flavors still present. Towards the end of the cigar, the strength does go up a bit, and if you ask me, it remains perfectly balanced. Some hints of pepper come into play, but not overwhelming in the least. It compliments all the flavors that are still present. This is one project that will be great for you to take on. Enjoy.

I bought a box based on how much I liked the value and quality of the original Project 40 natural, and I'm super happy I did because these are bursting with flavor. This is another winner for Alec Bradley and certainly a contender for best bargain cigar of the year again. Rich aromatics, beautiful appearance, a perfect snug amount of resistance on the draw, and all for an amazing price. I'll give 5 stars as my way to say "Yes, try it!".
