To create Casa Magna Colorado, Manuel Quesada, a long time cigar maker in the Dominican Republic, created a partnership with Nestor Plasencia in Nicaragua. The blend that resulted was bold, with tobacco from Esteli and Jalapa, and full flavor with rich coffee and sweet cedar notes. The Robusto was crowned as the #1 Cigar of the Year 2008 by Cigar Aficionado.

The Casa Magna Maduro is a new cigar made in the Dominican Republic at the Quesada Cigars factory. It’s the first blend created by Raquel Quesada, who worked alongside her father, Manolo Quesada. This cigar features a dark Mexican San Andrés wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and filler tobacco from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and the U.S. (specifically Pennsylvania). While it shares the Casa Magna name, it’s a completely different blend from the original Casa Magna Colorado, which used only Nicaraguan tobacco. The Maduro offers a rich, complex smoke with a focus on bold flavors from the San Andrés wrapper.

Well, that’s exactly what Quesada did with the Casa Magna XV Anniversary cigar, which was crafted to celebrate this award-winning cigar’s fifteenth anniversary. Only they tweaked the blend by adding an Ecuadorian Habano 2000 maduro wrapper to add more flavor. Underneath this delicious wrapper is a Nicaraguan binder and filler, which is made of tobacco grown in the Jalapa and Esteli regions of Nicaragua. Jalapa leaves are known for their complexity, and Esteli leaves are highly regarded for their strength. In 2008, Quesada released the Casa Magna Colorado (a Nicaraguan puro), which rapidly drew attention for its potency and flavor. The line’s robusto vitola won Cigar Aficionado’s 2008 Cigar of the Year. Then in 2022, it won the No. 20 spot in Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of 2022. Quesada Reserva Privada Barber-Pole

Two fine tobacco leaves team up to create the wrapper for the Quesada Reserva Privada Barber Pole cigar. Made by combining a USA Connecticut broadleaf with a USA Connecticut shade-leaf, this cigar’s wrapper is just as visually exciting to behold as it is to enjoy. The specially blended filler, made from tobacco grown in the San Vicente region of the Dominican Republic and ligero leaves from Pennsylvania, is nestled in a Dominican criollo binder. The Quesada Reserva Privada Barber Pole is a medium-strength cigar that produces vibrant flavors, and its artfully crafted wrapper will be a welcomed addition any cigar aficionados’ humidor.

Connecticut Shade wrapper grown in the United States has a mild to medium flavor and a silky quality, making it one of the most expensive and sought-after cigar wrappers in the cigar industry.
USA Connecticut Broadleaf
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Connecticut Broadleaf is grown in the United States' Connecticut Valley and is prized for its dark, oily, full flavored and aromatic characteristics. The plants are grown in full sun giving this cigar wrapper its characteristic sweetness. The Connecticut Broadleaf plant leaves are mainly processed as maduro tobacco. Today, Connecticut Broadleaf seeds are being grown in other countries besides the United States.

Dominican Republic
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Dominican Republic is a traditional tobacco-growing country. In the 60's, a Cuban seed was introduced and the resulting tobacco, called Piloto Cubano, became famous as a good substitute of the Cuban tobacco that was no longer allowed to enter the USA. Piloto Cubano is full bodied while the Dominican Olor tobacco is milder but more aromatic.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

This week I decided to review Casa Magna's Liga F in a Churchill size. While doing some research on the stick, I found that the F stands for 'fuerte', or strong. However, I didn't find it to be overwhelmingly so. Upon lightup, the flavor was earthy and slightly spicy. There was good construction and an even burn all the way through, and after getting through the initial earthiness a subtle sweetness began to show through. I would call the cigar medium to medium-full in both flavor and strength, not quite as strong as advertised, but it's definitely a cigar that makes its presence felt. I would pair it with something sweeter, like a spritz or old fashioned.

Interesting two different tobacco wrappers thus the "barber pole". Had a hot spot when I first started smoking but was able to smoke through it. It was an OK cigar but not something I would buy again.

I usually smoke these bad boys, great cigar but find this batch or at least the first one to have a very tight draw which puts allot of pressure on the mouths muscles. Feels like I’m trying to syphon gas from a tube. Not smoking like a forest fire.

Honestly I was excited to see a closed foot, as I'm a big fan of those... But besides that, I wasn't too impressed with the construction and flavor. Just another average cigar that at least the sampler I got 3 out of 4 were completely packed to tight, resulting in a plugged draw. I don't know how they could have screwed up a 65rg cigar, but they did. So probably not going to revisit this stick.

A large cigar that definitely has a lot of toasted wood notes. If you don't like that flavor don't buy this one cause it's loaded with it. I found it only mildly interesting as it's pretty one dimensional. Wouldn't buy again or recommend it.

Just amazing cigar. Aromatic outer leaf, it feels firm and well packed in tobacco leaves. The aftertaste is smooth making it difficult not to draw time and time again.

Such a beautiful, box pressed, well rounded cigar--very flavorful with all types of notes from spice to leather to earth and more! First of all, the presentation of this cigar draws you right in--love the pigtail tops. The first third starts off with a good amount of pepper with a bit of sweetness seeping in for balance. Into the second third, notes of wood, cocoa and black pepper are up front with a bit of sweetness still around making for a very intriguing profile--definitely keeping me very interested. Into the last third of the cigar, the same profile remains but the sweetness totally disappears. The cigar finishes very nicely--no harshness at all. the draw was spot on even though I did need to do a few touch ups to the the burn line. Overall, this cigar was a very nice, complex, interesting smoke!

What a beautiful looking cigar! Packaging is incredible: sleek lines, beautiful looking gold band and the box looks awesome perfectly matching the cigars! Presentation aside this cigar is absolutely gorgeous looking, almost like a piece of milk chocolate. Taste wise you get hit with a blast of pepper right off the bat (not a fan). The pepper quickly dissipates and replaced with flavours of nuts and leather. Into the second third the peppers come back darting back and forth throughout the entire experience. Overall not a very complicated smoke, about average. One big drawback is that this cigar did require constant touch ups which reduced my smoking enjoyment.

Being an exclusive IPCPR edition and in very limited production my expectations were very high. I was excited to try it, the caramel colored wrapper and the gold band give it a classic inviting look. Of course the one I was dying to try was the box press. The cigar looks perfectly pressed, slim, smooth, and smells of fresh rain and cedar. Once lit the first third is earthy and cedary with hints of white pepper that recede and almost disappeared on the second third. The cigar becomes sweet with some citrus and lots of earthy and leathery notes on the background. Medium bodied all the way, well balanced, nice even burning line, gray flaky ash, no relights. Overall this stick is on point.

Tried this for the first time after allowing the stick to age for about 2 weeks. Truly enjoyed the smoke, however, it did burn rather fast on me. Draw is smooth and consistent, last 3rd of the cigar does become a bit more full bodied and somewhat tarry on the finish.

If you are looking for a large, long lasting cigar that kicks like a mule and smokes like a forest fire, look no further. This stick sports a gorgeous reddish brown, slightly oily Colorado wrapper that smells of hay and caramel pre-light. It is firm and has decent weight to it indicating a firm pack. However the pack does not hurt the quality of the draw. It pulls easy and as I mentioned earlier, produces a lot of smoke. I found the dominate post-light flavors to be earth, leather, caramel, coffee and spice. Strength keeps building until the end. Pairs well with espresso. Make sure to have eaten something before firing this baby up. Cheers!

Of course I had to try this gorgeous cigar, as soon as I set my eyes on it, curiosity hit me hard. The name and packaging are so appealing it was impossible to resist temptation. Honestly, no regrets at all. It was flawless, flavor wise it was delicious and complex. Some pepper, leather, and coffee notes are the first to appear followed by hints of cedar in the first third; changing to a strong dark chocolate on the second half with traces of cedar on the background. In the final third the pepper has gone and now it is all about nuts, cedar and chocolate. The ash doesn't hold for more than a inch but has a pretty even burn...no complaints. Love the shape, the fit, which combined with the pigtail cap, the dark reddish wrapper and the double band, gives the stick a very high end look. I can see myself lighting another Tiberius very soon.
