The Don Pepin Garcia Black Edition cigar line is crafted using traditional Cuban methods. Made of 100% Nicaraguan tobacco, the Black Edition cigar offers a captivating medium to full-bodied smoking indulgence with a long satisfying finish. The cigars are named after the birth years of Pepin and members of his family. The 1950 was named after the founder Jose Don Pepin Garcia, the 1979 after his daughter Janny who works with Don Pepin in the family enterprise. The cigars are handmade at Jose Don Pepin Garcia's factory in Nicaragua.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Colorado maduro wrapper is milk chocolate brown.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Johnny Hello. Your posting to the Don Pepin Cuban Classic, claims the Wrapper to be a "Nicaraguan Habano ". All materials I've read claims this Cigar to have a Corojo Wrapper instead. What's your source as to how you've identified the Cuban Classic to be wrapped in a " CONNECTICUT "?

I love the Cuban classic but the Gordo size again proved that is not for me. This particular stick looked a little sloppy, draw was bad in the first third, it felt like it was dying unless I kept it going all the time, got better in the second half. Flavor though is wonderful, lot of cedar with just the right amount of spice and sweetness to it. Will smoke again but I recommend the regular toro size.

These cigar "Samplers" are great. When I'm looking for a change in smokes, I usually purchase a sampler pack in my chosen strength. These are a perfect example of why. Several cigars for top brands helps me maintain my enjoyment of the habit. This particular one was excellent, and I'll be ordering a few of these from "My Father's Cigar" next time I order. If you haven't used this way of experimenting, I highly recommend that you do.

Bought the My Fathers sampler pack 1 together with this. Liked the selection on pack 1, but it depended on Your preference. Great sampler nonetheless. Excellent selection, packed fresh, great value.

Great constuction, mild strength and body. Nutty with white pepper spice, especially on the retrohale. Consistent flavors through the whole cigar, on the second and third you get more of a light coffee and light brown sugar note on the draw. Nice! Really is close to the cuban cigars I have tasted, impressive for a nicaraguan blend.

This guy was a 5 all the way down the line for me. It is in line with all MF cigars as far as quality, taste, construction etc. Profile was on the savory side, with a significant finish.

Great cigar and the price point?! I'll be buying more! Great burn with near perfect tight white ash. Plenty of rich smoke. It was a bit stronger than I thought it would be, but I loved it! I tasted cedar and mild citrus, very smooth all the way through.

I really love the Don Pepin Garcia series but for some reason this one was not so appealing to me. Maybe it was the nutty taste I got from the cigar or the tight draw. I will be trying it again and updating my review as maybe my second go at this one will be better.
