The Plasencia Alma del Fuego (Spanish for Soul of Fire) captures the passion and strength of Nicaraguan tobacco. A Nicaraguan puro, the Alma del Fuego’s binder and filler is composed primarily of tobacco that is grown on the island of Ometepe, which was formed by two volcanos. Volcanic soil along with the right climate conditions is ideal for growing tobacco. The island of Ometepe sits in the middle of Lake Nicaragua. Ometepe tobacco is known for its strength. Thus the name Alma del Fuego. However, its strength is tempered with a delicious sweetness that is accented with spicy, nutty, and citrusy notes.

Bought the box because I am a big Plasencia Alma Fuerte fan and I was curious about the uniqueness of Ometepe tobacco. My impressions are as follows: Humidor and Packaging: The humidor and packaging were very well done - although the magnets on the glass tubes are flimsy. The humidors is a nice keepsake, I just wish they had built a place to pour humidify solution. Would give the humidor and packaging a score of 9/10 Cigar: This cigar is one of best constructed Plasencia’s I have ever had. The burn was even and steady. Draw was excellent and it was a nice easy smoke. Taste is where this all falls apart. The cigar smokes as a medium body (or less) and the flavors are nothing special. I was trying hard to pick up any special flavors from the Ometepe tobacco that would justify the premium - especially the stated sweetness of Ometepe cigar. While it was a nice enough cigar there was nothing special there. Overall I would rate this a 3/5 cigar that is definitely not worth the $100 price tag - hell you can’t pick two Padron 50ths for that and get two much better smokes. I am ok with buying the box for the keepsake and experience, however I would not purchase this again and definitely would not recommend anyone else spend $100 on this cigar - unless they wanted to try one for the experience. I'm probably biased here as Plasencia is one of favorite cigar brands and the Cortez vitola including this one and the Cosecha149 are among my favorite cigars in part because the "feel" of this shape is great in the hands, the burn is uniform and the manner in which the ash holds together is impressive. I was hesitant about this cigar since some reviews described it as "spicy" or "peppery" which is not my favorite flavor profile. I found the spice in this cigar was more towards the cinnamon side than pepper on the retro. The cigar has a pleasantly long finish and the smoke texture is syrupy nearly to the end of the final 3rd. Didn't think I'd like this one as much as the 149 as they are very different. That said, I enjoyed this cigar as much and put it into the rotation and few for additional aging.

I'm a big Plasencia fan but I wasn't a huge fan of this blend. But I heard good things about this TAA release and was not at all disappointed. It's a much more rounded and nuanced version of the blend. I hope they do this again.

The primary flavor note in this cigar is a brown sugar note that is prevalent through the entire cigar. The secondary notes are wood, cream and spice. The most unique note was through much of the middle was a cherry cream soda note that was very prevalent and unique..not sure I remember having it in any other cigar. Construction, burn and draw were perfect which is to be expected with Plasencia. Overall I really enjoyed this cigar. Not all time classic good but certainly something I will smoke again

Awesome burn and construction. Flavors were spicy and sweet at the start, leathery, with notes of cocoa, and some espresso. The 2nd half of the cigar, the spice ramped up significantly, which I didn't like at all. Even with at least 1 year of age, this was a very spicy cigar, made my throat very uncomfortable. Would not visit these again.

I’m a fan of this cigar. Upon lighting you get a nice intro to the wrapper which mostly covers the foot. First third is sweet and light with a little cinnamon. Second third starts getting bolder, with a much more complex profile of spice, some meatiness, and even multigrain bread. Last third is quite bold, moreso than I was expecting. Overall, a great smoke that I will buy more singles of and would easily recommend.

First impression: The red box is solid, heavy, and better built than most cigar boxes. The cigars are beautiful and look well-constructed as well. First cigar impression: "This is a flavorful and quality cigar." And it stayed flavorful throughout. I noticed it had a dark ash, which meant an abundance of magnesium in the soil. Be careful, it falls off quickly and without notice. The downside has been each cigar I've had was the same--instances of inverted ash, which required extensive touch ups. One one occasion the ash fell off and the cigar was out, just like that. Still, the flavor makes it worthwhile.

Lake Cocibolca lies in the southwest portion of Nicaragua. In the lake is the Island of Ometepe. It is home to two volcanos. The tobacco grown there is highly regarded for its strength and flavor. When I learned that the Plasencia Alma del Fuego cigar contained tobacco from this region, I had to try it. The Candente, a box-pressed robusto, had a nice rustic wrapper with a slight reddish hue, and it had a closed foot. Pre-light: I got a nice tobacco sweetness and earthy aroma off the foot and body. Once lit, the tobacco sweetness became more pronounced from start to finish. Along the way, grassy and spicy notes introduced themselves, but this cigar was all tobacco, which is a good thing. This was a well-built cigar with no draw or burn issues, and the smoke was billowy. The strength was medium with a slight shift to strong. Overall, I recommend this stick to smokers who are looking for a straight forward cigar.

The Del Fuego is another excellent cigar from Plasencia. It has definitely has it's own unique taste profile from other Plasencia. Strength wise it is lighter than a Alma Feurte stronger than a Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro(I think the best Plasencia)

Not easy to write a review of 6 plasencias in a short blurb but here goes. Excellent. Cant go wrong with plasencia. All were well constructed and smoked great. I liked the almas the best and the del Fuego is hands down my favorite but all 6 were quality. I enjoyed the use of the ashtray as well. While every cigar satisfied the del Fuego earns a permanent spot on my favorites list.

A meaty savoury stick with a solid medium full earthy body with spice. The first third had a touch of dry coffee like raw beans. The retro hale had a touch of leather and plenty of spice although not overpowering. The second third a salty savouriness came in like a well seasoned chargrilled steak. The final third a minerality came through and there was a bit of nicotine strength that was felt about 10 minutes after finishing.

A beautiful cigar that smoked very smooth. At first I thought almost too smooth but the taste intensified as I worked through it. At over $15 a luxury cigar but it looked good felt good and smoked smooth. It's also wrapped over the foot which is a nice touch esp when lighting. I will be adding it to my favorites list.

Five stars on everything might seem like a little too much, but this has to be one of the most enjoyable cigars I’ve had in a long time. From the first puff, the Alma del Fuego by Plasencia did not disappoint. I won’t try to suggest notes, because that’s not my thing, but it was rich and full bodied. It burned well, with a solid white ash that didn’t drop off easily. The aroma was wonderful, and I smoked it to the nub. Would highly recommend it to others.

This is a beautiful stick (box press), medium bodied but with the finesse that I've found in the Alma Fuertes (really the gold standard for Plasencia). I'll still give the nod to the Alma Fuerte (esp the Salomon and the Robusto) but they clock in at $4-$8 more per stick (they're also maduros, whereas this is a more natural tobacco). All in all a great smoke at the price. Amped up in flavor and heat/spice in final 3rd, but never lost its finesse. Would consider a rebuy or try others in the line(s).

Very unique super premium smoking experience! Very rich and peppery start with complex flavor and terrific aromatics. Though thin the cigar delivers loads of flavors. For a cheaper price I'd stock up big time.

This new Alma Del Fuego is another great Plasencia cigar. It is full bodied with a bold taste but not harsh. The flavors stay consistently mellow. I still think the Alma Del Fuerte is the benchmark. Plasencia doesn’t make the run of the mill everyday boring cigar. They make high quality beautiful cigars that you can smoke everyday!!! Rob

M/F to full body. Dark, rough appearance. Spicy, with a range of pepper notes, followed by barley, dark bread, and dark roast coffee. An rich underlying sweetness rounds out the profile. Excellent smoke.

M/F body. Dark, somewhat rough appearance. Immediately spicy, with red, black and cayenne pepper notes, probably due to Ometepe Island tobacco. This is one of the spiciest cigars I’ve smoked. Savory and sweet notes emerged that interplayed with the spicy elements, resulting in a balanced, delicious cigar.

I’ve never tried the Plasencia brand and this sampler pack is a great introduction. So far I’ve tried the Alma Del Campo: very earthy, medium body stick, and look forward to trying the remaining lineup. The bonus wooden ashtray is a very nice touch.
