When developing the blend for The Wise Man Maduro, Foundation Cigars drew upon the story of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba who gave birth to Menelik, The Wise Man. Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.

Damn, this is a fantastic cigar. The entire Wise Man series is excellent, but this unique box-pressed one is by far my favorite. These seem to have a much more elegant draw and more successful integration of flavors than the others from the line. Flavors here are charming and unique, a balance of sweet and creamy chocolate, a big pinch of myrrh and cinnamon spice, dry chili pepper, and damp earth. Mystical is a good word for it, befitting the name. For a cigar with its assertive depth of flavor and intensity, it's an unusually smooth and easy-going smoke. Size and shape feel effortless, natural, perfect for this blend of tobaccos, neither too much or too little, just fantastic harmony of the elements. There is something casual about the feel of Foundation cigars, despite being a luxury brand run by very talented people. They don't feel expensive. No, they feel better than expensive -- they're f#*%ing good! I would rank this right at the top of the Foundation brand, which is littered with stand-out sticks. I am not in the habit of buying boxes, but this one really tempts me.

Foundation cigars are for me a discovery. I tried them thanks to this pack. All cigars where great. I am not fond of full bodied strong cigars but the Gueguense Toro Huaco was super duper. The Charter Oak, the least expensive of the pack happens to be in my opinion the best cigar in this price range so I now got a whole box of them. The cigar cutter is a top quality cutter.

My first Foundation cigars did not disappoint. This is how a sampler should be put together. Including a product guide should be a standard, and I hope more brands will do the same. The cutter, too, is beautiful and heavy duty. I haven’t used it because I don’t want to tarnish it, but trust me it’s sharp haha

The Wise Man Macho Raton is a very tightly rolled cigar. Because of this I recommend a deep V cut. The burn is quite slow but unfortunately not exceptionally even and I had to relight it a couple of times. The draw could also be a little better but this is due to the tight rolling. The cigar smells and tasted great. Definitely a robust smoke. Peppery notes mix with earthyness and that barnyard funk. Nicotine is high and I definitely had a buzz after smoking it.

I received this in a Foundation sampler pack. With it being a perfecto, (if you are new to the cigar game), it takes a few minutes for the draw to open up due to the shape. Nice even burn and banging flavors. Paired it with a cup of coffee and was a fantastic smoke. Notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, cocoa, and a little black pepper. If you like Maduro's, you absolutely need to try this!!

Not a big lancero fan but I love the wise man maduro and wanted to try it in every vitola. Decent draw and good consistent burn with the trademark cocoa and vanilla and pepper notes but I didn't find this one as flavorful as the robusto or toro. This was still a really good smoke but the Toro huaco remains my favorite of this excellent line.

I first discovered The Wise Man working through CA's 2018 Top 25 and the robusto blew me away. I think I might like this Toro even better. Same delicious blend in a bigger beefier smoke. I love the interplay of cocoa and vanilla with the peppery undertone. A full open draw with a burn that started uneven but straightened out. Lasted me almost a full two hours. Big thumbs up here.

Solid tightly packed stick. Minimal veins and seams. Doesn't kook like much. Looks can be deceiving. Pre light aroma is of ripe raisins. Cold draw is a bit tight Perfect, giving some cocoa sweetness. Upon lightning, very nice earth and cocoa envelope the palate. Burn is far from perfect, but self corrects, ash is grey, which I tap after about an inch. Smoke volume is average, not very think. Flavor is what this stick is all about. It is a Tasty smoke with leather blending in with earth and some sweet Tobacco. It was a Great smoke, but in all honesty, I did not fall in love with it. Maybe it was the cold weather ??

This has been in my humidor for over a year. It has some beautiful oily buds on its oily wrapper. Nicely rolled and has a nice heft in the hand. Burns evenly with an even draw. Another beauty from Foundation Cigars. After the first inch of burn beautiful notes of charred cocoa, expresso and caramel show up in the copious smoke cloud it produces. It's a strong cigar but smooth with no bite. These were always good but they definitely got even better in the humidor after a few months.Get yourself a box and invest in yourt future.

It's a nice oily, veiny wrapper with a little sheen on it. Nicely rolled with no soft spots or separations. Perfect draw and mostly even burn. Nice smoke producer. A very nice aroma of floral , alcohol and vanilla from initial light off. Eventually the floral/alcohol is replaced by caramel and toasty bread and Nutella notes.

prelight draw, mix of cedar with some coffee. This is strong but very well balanced and goes from sweet to spicy on transitions. This burned great and had a decent draw. Chocolate was the main upfront flavor note and had a bit of pepper on the retohale with some bite to it. By the end the coffee comes up to the front with some earthiness in the background. The intensity on the strength does pick up from 2nd to final 3rd. Have this after a nice dinner on a full stomach. Very good no harshness at the end.

Pre-light: Faint chocolate, coffee, cedar, earth. 1/3: Red and black pepper, coffee, generic sweetness, wood, mesquite and earth. Bit of a snug draw at first but it opened up. Producing lots of smoke since the light up. Minor touch up needed.2/3: Pepper has faded. Nuttiness, coffee, generic tobacco. Flavors have mellowed out. 3/3: Earth, coffee and some wood. Very smooth stick and a slow burner. Lacked a bit in the transitions department but consistent flavors were good. Cigar did go out on me once requiring a re-light. Final smoke time 1 hour and 25 minutes. I preferred the non maduro version El Guenuense over this but this was enjoyable. Worth a try.

Good but not great. This is at least the 2nd one I've smoked, it had been in my humidor for a while. A medium-bodied maduro with great consistency of flavor (what you'd expect) and no real spice. Lacks the refinement and/or depth I've found in some more expensive sticks (e.g., Alma Fuerte, Padron 1926/1964), but obviously it has a lower price point. Still, for the price, I've had some more rewarding experiences recently. It's not bad by any means, just nothing stood out at me. I think the Robusto vitola delivers more flavor / a better experience, the Toro size seems to water down some of what makes the Robusto have some zaaz.

I enjoy a lancero cigar once in a while and this one is a good one. I will say that I prefer the Wiseman in the Robusto size, a little smoother. Having said that if you like fuller bodied lancero’s you should give this a try.

Received a single as part of a father's day gift and was anxious to enjoy the #3 CA rate stick from 2018. First inspection reveals a well constructed cigar with an attractive if a bit underwhelming band. The light was an easy one and the burn even despite the fact that midway thru I had some issues with it staying lit. Wise Man has some pronounced flavors: Earth, aged wood, slight cinnamon and an overwhelming pepper note. The problem I experienced is that the flavors did not marry well. It was as if they all were distinct and fighting each other for supremacy during the smoke. Perhaps additional time on the humidor would help or perhaps my stick was an outlier. In any event, I was expecting considerably more from the #3 cigar of 2018 and a 95 rating. I was disappointed.... 89.

A solid, well constructed stick that delivers a balanced full flavor profile with a touch of pepper. Lots of smoke with an easy draw. Used a V-cut and had no issues with draw or burn.

I agree with the other comments, Lanceros are amazing at bringing out an incredible amount of flavor. This is one of the best Lanceros I've had on top of that. Pure and rich flavors are abundant, and everything is 5 stars across the board. Bravo to Wise Man!

Agree with last reviewer in that this cigar is a MUST for anyone into medium to full bodied cigars. Reminds me of a Liga Privada in terms of excellent draw and creamy smoke, yet at 2/3rds of the price and a bit milder. Glad I bought into the hype on this one!

If you have not tried the Wiseman Maduro Robusto and you are a fan of medium to full-bodied cigars, then you are doing yourself a disservice - this 5 1/2 by 50 is a gem. The cigar is wrapped in Mexican San Andres, with a Corojo binder and Nicaraguan filler, giving this cigar a complex flavor profile. As you smoke the cigar, you will pick up notes of black pepper, some sweetness, nut and earth. The cigar is not overwhelming so it's a nice one to smoke, especially for anyone who is trying a medium to full-bodied blend for the first time.

Interesting little stick. Had never heard of it before it popped up here in top rated lists. For $10, it's a good deal. Starts smooth and suave and held this through the mid-point. Final 1/3 got stronger and ultimately harsh, not totally nub-able, but rewarding for the price. More complex than what I recall of the comparable CLE Prieto and similar.

I’ve always enjoyed the El Gueguense line and had high expectations for the Wise Man. Bottom line: if you love full body cigars with strong dark chocolate and coffee notes, then this stick is for you. I enjoyed this smoke but didn’t think it warranted the No.3 spot. Guess I’m really not a dark chocolate fan.

An exceptional cigar. Bought this randomly and I so happy I did. Looks great with a very handsome band. Straight away the stick tasted great unlit. Loads of smoke and very aromatic and slightly sweet. By the second third The flavour increased to chocolate, coffee and leather with a little nuttiness. Last third was still very enjoyable. Burned perfectly. my new favourite. When there's some room in the humidor I'll buy a box!

What a gorgeous wrapper! This was my first thought of this cigar. So oily and inviting, rustic without being rough, the dark San Andres wrapper is like a promise of an excellent smoke. Dark cocoa, coffee and some leather are the opening notes; I can feel the pepper in the very first puff. About two inches into the cigar, it starts mellowing out, the pepper is almost gone the cigar becomes creamier and the earthy notes are quite predominant. The pepper intensifies again in the final third with the coffee and earthy notes fighting to be the leading taste. This box press cigar is a slow burner, with a consistent even burning line and ash. It’s not as complex as I imagined after smoking its predecessor El Gueguense but it’s not flat either. In fact has interesting and subtle notes of leather and chocolate that are hard to taste because the pepper and the coffee. Overall is an enjoyable smoke. I will be trying the toro size very soon??
