The El Mago Mistico cigar offers two firsts in one. It is the first time this Miami, Florida based brand has released a cigar with a two-tone wrapper, which is composed of a three-year old Cameroon wrapper capped off at the head and foot by a light-tan shade leaf. And it is the first time El Mago has launched a box-pressed, robusto-size cigar. The Mistico’s eye-catching wrapper shrouds an Ecuadorian binder and a Dominican Republic and Nicaraguan filler. The cigar’s unique blend will appeal to aficionados looking to expand their smoking portfolio.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

The seed is originally from Sumatra, introduced in the country just after WWII.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow binders, because it is located on the Equator and it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type binders to many cigar factory in the world.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

Probably the best draw out of a stick I’ve ever experienced BUT it was just an okay smoke. Flavor was mediocre and linear. Just not for me.

If you are looking for a box-worthy robusto that won’t break the bank, then look no further than the El Mago Mistico. It takes the mystique out of what a good everyday smoke should be. Its smooth Cameroon wrapper telegraphed its creamy and tobacco sweetness profile. The draw was effortless and the ash was salt and peppery. The flavor profile was consistent throughout with spikes of spice along the way which made things interesting. The construction was solid with some give. Strength-wise, the Mistico was mild to medium, which makes it a good morning or afternoon smoke. Pair it with a coffee, black no sugar.

Cigar had excellent draw and is very good quality. The flavor through the first two thirds was exceptional. Flavor did change a little towards the end but was still a great smoke. Can’t wait to try more of their products
