Released in 2023 by Black Works Studio, The Hornet is a pumped up version of its robust cousin the Killer Bee. Its imposing, Ecuadorian maduro wrapper is supported by a Nicaraguan binder and filler. The wrapper is accented with a closed foot and swirled cap made from a candela wrapper. The Hornet is known for its strength that is balanced out with a complexity of flavors. Like its namesake, The Hornet will leave a lasting but pleasant sting on your palate that you will not soon forget.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type wrappers to many cigar factory in the world.
Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Featuring the darkest color found in cigar wrappers, maduro leaves are dark brown to almost black in color, and come from the primings furthest up on the plant. Having seen more sun, maduro wrappers tend to be richer and contain more nicotine than their lighter counterparts. Although somewhat intimidating in appearance, do not assume that all maduros are super strong - many can be milder than other types of wrappers, as well as naturally sweeter.
Candela

To produce a Candela wrapper, the tobacco leaves are harvested and dried quickly before the plant has fully matured. This process locks in the plants natural chlorophyll content and gives the Candela wrapper its green color.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Such a cool looking cigar! Beautiful wrapper, with decorative candela stripes at the head and closed foot, which makes it pretty unique. Aside from the initial impression, the aroma is of hay and earth, the draw and burn are very good. From the beginning you get the medium to full bodied, spicy flavors with notes of cedar and citrus. The cigar evolves getting more full bodied as you smoke, with earth, leather and sweet citrus being the predominant flavors. Recommend for the seasoned cigar smoker that is looking for a pleasant change of pace in their rotation.
