Mil Dias is Spanish for 1,000 days. From the first time that Eradio Pichardo and Luciano Meirelles co-founders of ACE Prime Cigars approached Jon Huber founder of Crowned Heads with some blend samples to when they finally developed the blend it took approximately 1,000 days (roughly three years). The cigar is named after this lengthily time of discovery. The Crowned Heads Mil Dias is a medium bodied cigar that is handmade in Nicaragua at the Tabacalera Pichardo factory. The Mil Dias’s mouth-watering Ecuadorian Habano maduro wrapper covers a Nicaraguan binder and a filler composed of tobaccos from Peru, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. This four-nation blend offers a remarkable smoking experience with a rich complexity of flavors.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Ecuadorian Habano
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Firm construction, open draw, mostly even burn with only a couple of minor touchups needed. Band was glued on super tight and difficult to remove resulting in a couple of small tears in the wrapper affecting the draw in the last third. Medium bodied, very smooth and pretty mellow with flavors of oak, leather, toasted nuts and hint of floral sweetness.

Mil Dias translates into A Thousand Days, a reference to the nearly three years it took the company to develop and perfect this blend. This is the result of Crowned Heads’ second collaboration with Tabacalera Pichardo in Nicaragua, along with Don Eradio Pichardo and Luciano Meirelles. Their first release together was Juarez. I have smoked at least 6 Crowned Heads Mil Dias Corona Gorda’s along with 3-4 of the other sizes and hands down this is my favorite size. I don’t even know how to describe it, this cigar is fantastic!! Mild to medium in strength, the Mil Dias allures the palate right from the beginning. The cigar opens up very fruity, almost sweet, accompanied by biscuit and cedar notes. A gentle bit of black pepper touches the palate, bringing a little intensity to the retrohale but just as a complement in the background, I also picked up some zesty and salty notes in the second third. The cigar started off as a mild cigar and after a mere five minutes started picking up on strength reaching a medium at its peak. The last third is as flavorful and complex as the second one, caramel and biscuit flavors blended so well with a mild spice and that subtle sweetness that makes me want the cigar to last another ½ an hour. I will happily say, the cigar becomes more rich and complex by the minute. The burn line was perfect, the ash not too firm or too flaky, just right, Everything in the Crowned Heads Mil Dias is the way it’s supposed to be: flavor, construction, draw, appearance, and fortunately, an excellent price.

This cigar got heaven reviews when firsr released, it quickly went out of stock. I bought 2nd batch, almost thinking a whole box, but to be cautious, 5 packs first. Glad I did. Flawless wrapper, thats the only positive. Out of the 5, 2 sticks are seriously underfilled and soft like straw. Smoked one, cant stay lit from beginning. I opened 2rd stick, found many green dots on the binder. Clearly they just rush things and want lure your money with no quality control and low grade tobaccos

bold cigar, strong flavors with transitions, but the majority of the cigars tasted like cured smoked tobacco, some bitterness, but still pleasant. full body. med-full strength and BOLD flavors. worth a smoke. will try other vitolas to see if flavors are differentness.

I was very excited to try the Mil Dias, a blend that took three years to finalize has to be amazing. The band is unexciting but the wrapper is well applied and clean. The cigar has a nice flavor, not to strong but definitely present and good. What bothered me most was this cigar would not hold more than a quarter inch of ash without it falling off. I have two more to try and see if they have the same issue. I suspect this might be short filler.
