The Rocky Patel A.L.R. Second Edition is hand rolled in Nicaragua. It is a medium strength cigar that features an oily Mexican San Andres maduro wrapper placed over a Honduran binder and a blended filler made up of Nicaraguan and Honduran tobaccos. The Rocky Patel A.L.R. Second Edition delivers notes of espresso and cocoa. After rolling, these cigars are aged for two years to enhance their flavor.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Mexican San Andres Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. San Andres Maduro is a thick, medium bodied dark leaf, also called San Andres Morron. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres Maduro is stalk cut and used for binder and wrapper.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Very classy looking bands draw was very good and so was construction and burn. Flavors were really nice slick aged tobacco that was very balanced and smooth. I don't believe I liked the first aged rare but this one is deffinately worth a shot and price point seemed rite where it should be for a stick of this quality. Most Rocky's besides maybe the decade are just meh for me but this will be a repeat

This box pressed beauty is firm to the touch yet supple as well. The dark wrapper is uniform and silky. This stick is full bodied and earthy. The creamy smoke imparts hints of leather and loam and an impression of caramel. The finish is black tea with a very nuanced hint of black pepper. A winner!

Wish I could give a 4.5 star for aroma... Everything about this cigar is incredible, and u believe it be one of the most underrated in the cigar industry. I really like the man Rocky Patel. He's had some very interesting stories in his life so I keep trying his cigars. But this one here is amazing. I actually never had a Rocky Patel I just think was just garbage until I found these. And absolute must try. Very sweet profile. Notes of a semi charred caramel, coffee bean, and a touch if vanilla. Live these and intend to buy more for as long as they keep making then. The toro however is a bit too much for me.

The ALR is normally a great cigar. The box was packaged in Sept 2018. By the time I got them in Oct 2020 the Boveda pack was rock hard, and the cigars are not in smokeable condition. They are dry as a bone and wrapper cracking is a harsh reality. Would definitely not buy this again online. Brick and mortar store always has great ALR’s. Go Rocky!

I smoked the 2019 ALR and the 2020 ALR back to back. After smoking the 2019 first, I was less enchanted with the 2020. While I gave the 2020 higher marks in appearance, the 2020 received one star less in aroma and taste. I think ppl are a bit too liberal giving this 5 stars across the board. It's a good cigar, just not a great cigar. Im going to age the remaining sticks before I try another.

As a recent "want-to-be" cigar enthusiast, I continue to sample a wide variety of cigars to discover my preferences. Upon sampling this cigar it satisfied all of my desired criteria and has become my "baseline" cigar. It goes well with coffee, tea, light wine and of course a singe malt low peat scotch whiskey. Being that it is rare, I stuffed my humidor full of them as my "go-to" and gift treat to others. I do continue my journey to establish a full line of favorites, but this cigar seems to walk the middle ground very well. Thanks to Neptune for their prompt customer service and extensive cigar inventory.

I liked it more than the original A.L.R. but for the price I expected to be wowed. Great draw and burn, tons of smoke. Was hoping for more sweetness, I only got espresso and cocoa throughout. No transitions. For another 50 cents I’d prefer a Liga Privada No. 9.

Very, very good cigar. In my top 10 for non-Cubans, and I don't like Rocky Patel, for the most part. Ordered one of these on the advice of a friend, that also doesn't like RP's much. Glad I did! Presentation is beautiful, burn is perfect, draw is good but just a tad tight. Aroma is good and taste was very complex. I'll be ordering more, but will be waiting on a 5er deal. Not worth the single price IMO, but if you can find them for 25% or more off MSRP...you won't be disappointed

Rocky Patel has always been known for making good quality and good tasting cigars. He did not disappoint with his new creation, the Rocky Patel ALR Second Edition. This cigar packs a good punch. At first glance, the nice dark wrapper calls your attention. But once you light it and start to smoke it, the flavor and strength will really grab you. It has a Mexican San Andres wrapper, which to those that have smoked it before, know that there is a good amount of strength there. Its binder is Nicaraguan. The filler is also Nicaraguan, coming from Esteli and Jalapa. At first light, you are introduced to a great full body taste. Some hints of pepper and cedar are introduced. It continues through the halfway point where now a woody taste is introduced. The pepper does diminish a bit, but is still present. Towards the end, some hints of creaminess are present. The burn was even throughout. I would recommend this cigar to those who are looking for a great tasting full-body smoke.

Pre-light the cigar smells great. The wrapper is a bold chocolate color and definitely has signs of aging. Draw is perfect and effortless. Aromatics and flavors are definitely intriguing with chocolate, coffee and earth notes. I'd love to smoke this again!

Voted 2019's #5 Cigar of the Year by Cigar Aficionado for their annual Top 25 Awards. Both First and Second Editions were rolled but then put away to aged for approx. 2 year prior to being released. And you can really taste that with how smooth and balanced the cigar is. Worth a try for sure!

This was quite smooth and enjoyable, but never really "broke out" for me to justify the price tag. Lots of rich chocolate muffin in pre-light draw, smooth and cocoa-y in first 3rd, but then lost a little of the magic and got a bit bitter before the nub. Have a 2nd one in the humidor to see how it goes. My guess is the smaller ring-gage version could be tastier. They pulled the stops out on the packaging, which is beautiful, but the rest of the stick doesn't quite live up to it in the value for money area.
