My first time with this tasty stogie. RP’s are always my fav short smoke. It had a nice flavor of cedar and spice and smoothness from begining to end. Would be a great smoke for the newbie cigar smoker. They will be one of my go-to short smokes; as I prefer Churchill’s and the like.

So! I took a not so deep dive to find out why this cigar was named Dark Star, but I couldn’t find anything. But! I will tell you this cigar has become a bright star in my smoking portfolio. Its smooth brown Honduran wrapper adorned with three bands (which is usually reserved for special edition cigars) caught my eye. Also, the band’s use of black type on a white background, and its simple design was a sharp contrast to the brightly festooned designs you see on other cigars. The construction of this robusto had a good firmness to it. Prior to lighting, I picked up a soothing grassy aroma and tobacco sweetness. When lit, the cigar had a rich creaminess that stayed the course from beginning to end. Along the way, I was greeted by notes of spice, sweetness, and vanilla. The smoke output was between heavy and light. The draw was effortless, and this cigar had no burn issues. Overall, the Rocky Patel Dark Star Robusto is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a mellow smoke with some spice at an affordable price that can be enjoyed every day. I’d pair it with coffee dark or sparkling water with a lime.

An unusual blend from Rocky with a Honduran Corojo wrapper, Honduran binder, and a Honduran & Paraguayan filler. The Paraguayan tobacco does add some unique character to the cigar. The draw and burn were excellent. But the aroma and taste leaves something to be desired. My 1st/3rd was a mix of pepper and earth spice. The 2nd/3rd was about the same but started to open up more with some clove, baking spices, and dry fruit like a fig newton cookie. The Final/3rd started to bring out the dark chocolate and espresso flavors with a touch of more clove. IMO it was medium-full into the 2nd/3rd. Still not my favorite flavor and aroma profile, but definitely a unique blend that will take some time to get used to. Overall, a solid B grade in my book. A good cigar to get your subtotal amount to the free shipping level.
