Primarily used as a filler or binder, Costa Rican tobacco is gaining popularity as a wrapper too. Their exquisite maduro wrapper leaves are recognized for being full-bodied. Located just south of Nicaragua in Central America, Costa Rica has become a primary source of tobacco for boutique cigar makers.

Wayne Irving I'm a chewer, i work with my stogie in my teeth, in peoples yards and garages building things, so i dont light up until i get to the truck for a puff and let it go out. Partagas has a nice metalic taste, (knowing its not metalic, just dont know how to describe it) are these good for chewing when it cant be lit? thanks

NeptuneCigar.com You can chew them, as they are solid, long filler cigars, but as with any cigar, if you chew to hard...your smoking experience may be compromised.

The El Septimo Culinary Arts Bordeaux had it all and perhaps too much. It was quite mild, which I fully expected, and I wasn't expecting any complexity beyond the wine barrel aging. It is very well constructed, nice draw and pleasant aroma. The smoke was a bit thin in my opinion which wasn't a detriment. The only quirk is that this is a long smoke cigar, well over and hour and a half which left me craving a bit more...oomph (nice technical term). All that being said, this cigar paired exceptionally well with a hearty Cabernet. It was overpowered by Balvenie Caribbean cask, but I suspect a more subtle scotch (Hibiki as an example) would pair nicely. Darn, I'm going to have to try another one to check the pairing, for science, right? I enjoyed the cigar and will purchase more in the future as this going to be my go-to cigar when introducing people to smoking cigars.

I'm not usually a fan of Connecticut wrappers because to me, they tend to develop a harsh, bitter taste in the final third. This one however, completely changed my mind. It's by far the best Connecticut I've had. It stayed smooth and creamy from start to finish and paired perfectly with my morning coffee. The construction was flawless, and the burn was perfect throughout the entire smoke. I finally found a Connecticut that has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

Smooth, satisfying, but not the most complex or interesting cigar. Started off sweet and nutty, no spice, then transitioned to more burnt caramel flavors, which I really liked. Then towards the end it became like more black coffee. Not a lot of flavor changes overall. An easy, straightforward smoke. Mild strength. Really open draw and kind of a wavy burn. But nice aromas.

Flavor and aroma were really good, but the experience was reduced by the fact that it had a REALLY open draw. I might even try a small punch on the next one instead of a standard straight cut. It had some burn issues as well, as I had to relight it multiple times. I'd try it again to see if these issues are resolved because I liked the flavor so much

The El Septimo Culinary Art Collection Rioja was a very pleasant surprise being a bit milder for a full-strength cigar. Outstanding construction and draw. This cigar has thick rich smoke which is nicely aromatic and not harsh or acrid. It paired wonderfully with Flor De Cana 18yo rum. This is an outstanding short smoke at ~ 45 minutes. I'll be ordering a box soon.

Part of the El Septimo Culinary Art Collection, the Italy Toscana Toro is aged in Tuscan wine barrels and designed with food-and-wine pairing in mind. I paired mine with a white wine, sparkling lemon and blood orange slices, which complemented the cigar’s smooth character and subtle oak notes nicely. The ash built and held well throughout the smoke. While the draw was a bit tighter than its siblings in the collection, it remained an enjoyable pairing!

Being a fan of wines and cigars, a combination of both peaked my interests. A new brand to Neptune, El Septimo, brings an artisan twist to cigars with their aging process and choices in tobacco. The France Bordeaux collection stood out to me for being a mild 60 ring gauge with curiosity about the wine barrel aged flavors. The initial start and first third of the cigar was very smooth, creamy sweetness but not overwhelming, and a nice woody profile thanks to the barrel aging. The notes of the Bordeaux come through in the 2nd third. A dry yet sweet and citrus note was prevalent in the smoke with a deeper woody note and caramel like note. At the same time it wasn't overly sweet or sugary, it was the perfect balance similar to white wine where you want dry sweetness balanced by notes of the grape, this has dry sweetness balanced by notes from the tobacco. I believe the combinations from the tobacco used helped keep the balance in the variety of notes. The final third gives a proper finish, like the bottom of a bottle of wine. The woody notes become very rich, the sweetness fades away but the caramel/nutty notes stay. The citrusy dry notes that come half way in become almost palpable in the final third, you can taste the wine barrel notes on your palate carried by the smoke with a welcome soft pepper in the finish. I love a strong finish and this brings a punch with the oils and notes in the finale. I would recommend this to any cigar smoker as its a mild that transitions to a medium half way in, lots of notes thanks to their Bordeaux barrel aging and tobacco choice, strong finish, and beautiful construction. No issues smoking this cigar, thick ash that didn't fall once unless I hit it against the ashtray, and lots of smoke thanks to the large ring gauge which for a cigar like this you want so you can enjoy all the notes and complexity.
