Casa Cuevas La Mandarria

The inspiration for Casa Cuevas La Mandarria cigar came about when Cuevas’ Miami headquarters was robbed of its fine cigars. The thieves used sledgehammers to break through the warehouse wall and take off with the goods. The La Mandarria (Spanish for sledgehammer) sports an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper that conceals a Nicaraguan binder, which houses fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. Handmade in the Dominican Republic, the La Mandarria is considered Casa Cuevas’ first full-bodied, full-strength cigar. A pigtail cap and shaggy foot give the La Mandarria a very stylish flair. The Casa Cuevas La Mandarria is a limited edition cigar only 500 boxes of 20 cigars were created.

This cigar was nothing like reviews I’ve read. The first half was a little harsh. Every other time I took a puff ash would flake off. This cigar was average at best.

Absolutely phenomenal smoking experience. First, the sweep foot on this stick adds to the overall flavor and experience in such a perfect way. There’s a strong leather, mild pepper, cream, and slight earth note in the first third that the foot just enhances. There is also a slight sweet, almost fruit tone toward the end of the first third and a hint of almost a Bakary type smell. The second third begins with a deep leather and earthy tone but some of the sweet fruit and Bakary flavors seem to linger to from the end of the first. I pick up some deep notes of coco as it progresses and pepper on the tongue that never gets to over powering which is a difficult feat to accompany but this cigar accomplishes easily. Right at the end of the second third I begin to pick up a nuttiness as well as an increase in strength to a try Medium - Full. The increase in strength continues in the final third and some strong pepper notes kick in. Stronger then when they began but. Amazingly, still not overpowering. Got a very strong and bold taste from every puff as the final third progresses. It’s hard to express but even with the kick up in strength the cigar maintains a sort of soft, Almost velvet feel to it. Notes of leather, nuts, black pepper and dark roast coffee all come through as this magnificent stick draws to a close. One of the best cigars I’ve smoked in a while. Overall - 94
