The AVO Syncro series uses specially selected tobaccos from some of the top-tobacco growing regions in the world and combines them to create harmonious blends. As a line extension to the series, the AVO Syncro Caribe incorporates tobaccos from the Caribbean and Central America to produce a cigar that expresses the flavors and aromas from these regions. The Caribe uses a dark Dominican maduro wrapper placed over an Ecuadorian binder, and a filler composed of leaves from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. From first puff to last, the AVO Syncro Caribe will stir your senses with the flavors and aromas indicative of its Caribbean origins.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
The main tobacco region in the Dominican Republic is the Cibao valley in the northern part of the island. In the 60s, Cuban seeds were brought here by exiled Cuban cigar makers and found that they grew exceptional cigar tobacco, called Piloto Cubano. The native Dominican tobacco, called Olor, is milder than Piloto Cubano yet more aromatic. The first company to grow Dominican tobacco for cigar wrapper was Tabacalera Arturo Fuente in 1995.

Ecuador
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow binders, because it is located on the Equator and it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type binders to many cigar factory in the world.

Dominican Republic
Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

As a fan of the syncro series I had to give the caribe a try. Glad I did. Nicely constructed and burn held up well in the breeze. Draw a bit firm by syncro standards but that's to be expected for a 60 gauge. An interesting tangy flavor CA describes as "musty and minty". I like it. Will definitely be trying the other sizes of this one.

I've seen this described some places online as medium full, although I'd put it right at a medium body. However, there are some very interesting and complex flavor transitions in store. First inch was dominated by coffee and leather but shifted to a floral and citrus heavy flavor with a cedar and white pepper undertone. By the midway point, the tanginess drops just a tick, the coffee and leather are back in full force, and the smoke is much denser and creamier. A nuttiness appeared in the final third, with the flavors remaining largely unchanged, although more heavily favoring the citrus and coffee combo. Draw and burn were perfect as one would expect from avo. I give it high ratings on the technical side and the flavors kept it interesting. Definitely recommend everyone give it a shot.

Excellent construction. Nice medium cigar. Lots of flavors, but predominantly slightly sweet fruity floral and tart. Medium smooth, medium creamy smoke output. Tasted more like a good sungrown cigar than a typical maduro. Enjoyable.
