The Rocky Patel Fifty Five originated as a celebratory cigar to commemorate Rocky's 55th birthday and is now released as a regular production cigar. All the cigars in this line are 55 ring gauge and a perfecto shape (with both ends tapered). The blend is made of a Nicaraguan wrapper with Costa Rican binder and Nicaraguan fillers, made in the company's factory in Esteli, Nicaragua.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.

Costa Rica
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Costa Rica has a reputation of growing excellent quality tobacco. Costa Rican maduro wrappers have become more popular in the past two decades, with the majority being dark and maduro wrappers.

Nicaragua
Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Worst cigar ever. Rested in 69RH humidor for about a month. Literally NO draw. I couldn’t even light it. So, tried to pierce it. Gentle. Cap fell off. Wrapper then came all apart. Thus this was rock hard the entire length. Absolute waste of $. I’ve never had a cigar this bad or hard before. Can’t comment on flavor or further since I couldn’t even light it with 0 draw.

Very tight draw (which is unusual for a rp cigar). Mine had a solid pack, no give at all. Flavour was medium. Nuts and oak, very dry finish. Usually a big fan of Rocky but in this case I'll pass.

Wrapper is very nice, tight and clean. Cold draw tastes amazing, lots of spice. Smoking did not feel like a full flavored but more of a medium. The burn was even the draw was great. The room note was a little sweet and spicy. The taste was fantastic the whole cigar. The second half kicked up the spice and mellowed the sweetness a little bit. Overall a very nice hour-long after dinner smoke.

This is a strikingly-beautiful dark stick - almost rustic-looking once you take the double-sided (cool!) label off. It burns pretty long and slow, with (as Shelly noted below) an enormous amount of thick white-gray smoke. It starts light but as you get into the first 1/3 it goes medium skirting full but never overpowering. The predominant notes I get are dark, dry baker's chocolate (tons) and some coffee / cedar dry notes. The flavors are somewhat straightforward, but for a $10 stick I'm not complaining. I'll keep 2 in the humidor to see how they do with some time. I liked the first enough I bought 4 more. Worth trying.

I had heard a lot of hype on this newest Rocky Fifty Five cigar, so I was extremely excited to see it show up in our store a few days ago!! All the cigars are perfecto shaped, with 55 ring gauges-- different lengths. Upon first light, notes of cocoa, cedar and pepper pop out. From the first light up and throughout the entire cigar, the smoke output was amazing. Into the second third, creamy cocoa and cinnamon are upfront along with subdued pepper. Heading into the final third, cocoa and cinnamon are still predominant, but a charred note appears for a great mesh of tastes. Overall, this cigar was creamy, sweet and smooth--med/full bodied with awesome construction. It was not overly complex, but the flavor was so awesome that it didn't matter. The draw was a bit tight for my liking in the beginning, but slowly opened up a bit. The ash was long, strong and gorgeous! What a winner Rocky has with this new Fifty Five--a must try!
