Launched in 2016, Saga Short Tales is a collection of premium cigars created by De Los Reyes Cigars, a sixth generation family owned and operated company. Each superbly crafted cigar released in the series is a different blend and vitola from the previous one. The cigars are stored in a collectible box designed to look like a book with actual pages, and its own tomo (Spanish for tome/volume) number and a title, which is dedicated to tobacco and the fine art of cigar making. The cigars are handmade in the Dominican Republic.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Tobacco is grown in many islands of the Archipelago but, as far as cigars are concerned, Sumatra and Java are the ones. Sumatra Wrappers are worldwide known. Central Java (Vorstenland) and East Java (Besuki) give fillers and wrappers in abundance. Indonesia is a key country for cigar tobacco.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

Some compare this to Fuentes' "Short Story" cigar, but there's no comparison. This is not in the same league. Each cigar so far has inverted ash and needs retouching--annoying for a small cigar. However, the box these come in is fantastic--and extremely clever. It's almost worth buying these for the box.

Bought on recommendation of ‘Staff Picks’ just to try something different. What a little smoke bomb. Obvious care needed to be applied to the nipple but once appropriate attention was paid the cigar opened up to a wonderful draw with a lot of tongue feel. In keeping with its maduro wrapper looks of coffee, chocolate and hints of spice. Great even burn right to the end. I bought it for a 30 minute smoke and it delivered however I wished it went for a bit longer.

Man, do I have a great one for all you "small commitment" smokers! I give you the Saga Short Tales TOMO IV. I really found this size to be quite perfect for convenience purposes, and it may even seem a bit familiar to you, being a similar vitola to another small Dominican cigar with "Short" in its name... I myself am not the type to usually commit to longer smokes so this one quickly found a home in my humidor. After smoking this shorty for the first time, I experienced a lot of interesting notes throughout. Beginning with subtle floral & cedar notes, it balanced out with some dried fruit notes and a touch of spice, leaving a pleasant overall taste. Upon entering the second half of this smoke, the complexity deepened. From that florally fruit profile we transition into a more tobacco-forward profile with some notes of cocoa as well. It carried these flavors throughout the rest of the cigar for the most part and overall had a great draw and construction the entire time as well. Overall, the Saga Short Tales TOMO IV is definitely one for the "books" if you ask me! It's a winner from start to finish.
