The West Tampa Tobacco Company Red cigar is an expression of what Rick Rodriguez, the company's founder, believes a flavorful, full-bodied cigar should look, feel, smell, and taste like. The cigar features a mouthwatering Mexican San Andres wrapper and an all-Nicaraguan binder and filler. The carefully composed blend offers a memorable smoking experience. The cigars are handmade at the Garmendia Cigars Co. in Nicaragua.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Mexican San Andres Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. San Andres Maduro is a thick, medium bodied dark leaf, also called San Andres Morron. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres Maduro is stalk cut and used for binder and wrapper.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

First time trying West Tampa, and it definitely won’t be the last. Flawless construction with an even burn from start to finish without needing a relight. The flavors were on point throughout the entire smoke. For an under $10 cigar, this smoked just as good, if not better than some $20 cigars out there. Definitely buying these again.

Wow! I've been smoking cigars for years but this was my first WTT cigar and I was very impressed. It's fantastic! It has a flavor that reminds me of an Oreo cookie along with earthiness and just a little bit of spice. Definitely try this one if you haven't yet.

Flawless draw with lots of smoke. Combination of San Andres wrapper and Nicaraguan filler is great. Starts off light on retrohale, but picks up nicely as the cigar progresses. Great smoke. Try a 3-pack first.

I've had the West Tampa Black, White, and now Red toros. I have to say the Red is the best with a close second with the Black. White was too light and didn't have much aroma and taste. The Red has a nice combination and balance of sweetness, black pepper spice, coffee, leather, and earth. A great smoke for less than $10 a stick. I can see why the Red made the Top 25 for 2023.

West Tampa Tobacco Co.'s newest standard line release is the Red. Sporting a San Andres wrapper and Nicaraguan binder and filler. My first impression was good. It felt good in the hand with a firm pack, handsome band, and a medium complexion San Andres wrapper. Simple straight cut and a cold draw confirmed we were on the right track. The cigar lit easily, stayed lit, and had a perfect little bit of resistance to the draw. Without babying it, my first ash was at two inches and was the nice white we like to see. A genuinely well constructed cigar. Earth, coco, a subtle streak of sweetness, and a little pepper to keep my lips in the game with the rest of my pallet did our beloved San Andres wrapper proud. Slightly front loaded strength that mellowed into medium plus until the nub where it predictable turned full again for the last inch and a half. Exactly what the doctor ordered for a smoker like me. Total burn time was about 45-50 minutes. Overall impression is a yes! For the medium to full smoker I have a hard time finding a reason not to try this one. Industry standard pricing, excellent construction, and a good representative of the tried and true San Andres/Nicaraguan archetype.
