La Aurora has the distinct honor of being the first cigar factory to ever open in the Dominican Republic, and throughout that vast time frame the company has proudly grown and released tobacco of all types. To commemorate the very first time they produced a cigar with a Cameroon wrapper, back when the brand was founded in 1903, La Aurora has released the 1903 Cameroon line. Featuring a premium Cameroon leaf atop an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and fillers from Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, this medium-bodied gem contains deliciously sweet notes of cedar, earth and leather. Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Colorado is a medium brown color also known as EMS or English Market Selection as this used to be the color with more popularity in England than in America.
Wrapper
Cameroon
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Cameroon wrappers are grown in the East part of the country. The growing area spreads over the eastern border, into the Central African Republic. Wrappers are air grown, without fertilizers and pesticides, by small farmers. The average plantation size is about one acre. The seed is originally from Sumatra, introduced in the country just after WWII.
Binder
Ecuador
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow binders, because it is located on the Equator and it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type binders to many cigar factory in the world.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.
Nicaragua
Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

This is a good cigar with cream + coffee aroma in the front part, leather taste in the middle part, and a little nutty aroma in the end part. The leather taste is stronger (can be used with black tea to dilute the breath of the mouth)

not too pretty, good construction, is normal to tight. this is a complex cigar. I picked up roasted nuts, cinnamon, light Earth and cedar, spicy and sweet reminds me of Cajun or Creole cooking. I even got some hints of bitter cocoa and espresso. this is a delightful afternoon cigar. because of the unique flavor profile and the price, this is an excellent choice to add to your smoking rotation.

The construction of this stick is a professional job—no cracking or unravelling at all, and a nice clean burn all the way through, without a single touch-up required. It held a firm, solid ash more than halfway down, and this on a fairly breezy day. The draw is firm, but never annoyingly so. The flavors are smooth and mild, starting with a cedar baseline and a slight pear overtone, evolving into a light toffee/caramel combination, and ending up with notes of mild earth, cafe au lait and white pepper. Very nicely done!

Had one that was inconsistently rolled with a big soft spot near the cap. Draw was good but burned unevenly and needed touch ups. Aroma was quite nice but the taste was a bit too sour and acidic to me. My teeth felt like I had drank lemon juice after smoking this stick. There are many better cigars at this price point I would rather smoke.

Easy cut and light. One runner that burned for 15 minutes before evening out. Initial draws were bitter and tingled the lips. Borderline spicy astringency. Those calmed down within a half inch. First third was soft sweet woody and leather notes some cream. Second third picked up more nuttiness, especially on retrohales. Final third was more savory leathery notes.

A cold draw revealed a light pepper taste on the cap. I was afraid I was getting into a pepper bomb but that wasn’t the case. The taste is a very mild wood and leather in the first 1/3. Good draw, mild resistance with very good smoke output. A very jagged burn line that corrected itself quickly. Flaky white/gray ash falls off in 1” chunks. Very consistent flavors throughout, medium body, great construction, an excellent value. I will definitely buy this again.

I tried this cigar 3 separate times and it was harsh, sort of sharp and aicd-y and the flavor of house dust. This could just be my palate. Sometimes, a highly rated cigar just doesn't work for me. And, sometimes, I love a low rated cigar.

I love La Aurora hand rolled cigars. I visited their factory earlier this year in the Dominican Republic and met the ladies who were rolling these excellent sticks. Highest quality fillers, binders and wrappers. Always a great smoke!

As one who prefers full body I do however like a good medium stick at times. This one does the trick! Rich beautiful Cameroon wrapper and flawless construction. Good even burn but have only smoked one upon receipt today. Lots of smoke and nice aroma. Solid hour and fifteen minute smoke for me. If you like a really good medium smoke at times this one fits that profile. Thanks Neptune.

Tried these for something different and was not overly impressed. Uneven on the drw....some were good, some were almost too dense and the draw was difficult. Taste is fine though I personally prefer a Connecticut lighter flavor.
