Foundation Olmec Maduro Corona Gorda 5 1/2 * 48, Box of 12

The Foundation Olmec Maduro cigar line was crafted as a tribute to the Olmec civilization which occupied the San Andres region in Mexico as well as other regions between 1600 and 400 BCE. The Olmecs were known to have been one of the first civilizations to use mathematical formulas to build pyramids and smoke cigars. The Olmec Maduro cigars were also created to honor the distinct tobacco that comes from this region. Its dark chocolatey Mexican San Andres maduro wrapper undergoes a slow, low temperature fermentation process, which preserves the tobaccos’ oils and contributes to the cigar’s overall flavor profile. The cigar’s Nicaraguan filler leaves are bale-aged for three years prior to rolling. This careful aging process allows the tobacco to develop its distinct flavors.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Mexican San Andres Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. San Andres Maduro is a thick, medium bodied dark leaf, also called San Andres Morron. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres Maduro is stalk cut and used for binder and wrapper.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

A very nice dark San Andres wrapper with Nicaraguan tobacco. My stick had a good balance of pepper spice with some earth and nutty flavor. I didn't have much sweetness to mine. Maybe a touch of nutmeg or cloves. Never had an Olmec but it's always making the Top 25 list. Give it a try.

People who love cigars know this one. Nothing good stays secret for long in the world of tobacco, and the Olmec is a stick beloved by old guys and young guys alike, as well as a few ladies I've met. It is frequently sold-out despite being produced in quantity. Here's why: remarkably consistent construction, world-class box-pressed draw, big chocolate and toasted nut notes which suggest a Snickers bar, mild but present spice, smooth as silk, perfect for every occasion but those demanding greater expense. It's just a knockout cigar with nothing wrong with it. There are only a few vitolas in the line and not much variation between, so you'd do well to trust your usual preference, all are excellent. As a maduro appreciator I find this stick ideally balanced, but the claro is also excellent for those looking for a lighter smoke. Anyone who appreciates Mexican San Maduro tobacco should buy several, if not a box.

You can spend thousands over several years experimenting like me, or you can just take my word for it ... simply the best MSA Maduro in the marketplace ... just punch a hole in the cap and get the best draw and flavor for the money you can find. I also really like the construction and feel of this particular box pressed vitola. I try to keep at least 5 of these in one of my humidors at all times ... but it is tough resisting partaking daily ... buy them when you see them in stock.

Hopefully I just got a dud, but this one compared to the Natural/Claro was a rough ride. It was as if you took the strength of a Padron and dialed it up to 11, then paired it with flavor from Gurkha, but all the way down to a 1. The draw was wide open, and it didn't really have any flavors other than nicotine and ash. The few puffs I did take were extremely full powered too, the strongest blast of nicotine I've ever had. Either lay these down to rest for a century, or I had a dud.

Wonderful smoke! The Olmec does not disappoint and this version is no exception. The San Andreas wrapper adds a great flavor. Notes of nuts, espresso and chocolate. Very even burn and perfect draw (I used a punch). Will definitely be looking for this version in the future.

Ok so one might expect a lot from this one. Well,,,, I had to keep relighting it and the draw was hard. Even after piercing it 4x. It was not over humidified as it had been in my 65 dry box for a week and measured with meter at 66RH. It cleared up a wee bit after 1/2 through but it was a pain and not enjoyable. This is the 3rd Olmec that’s been this way. I won’t order Olmec again. Too many other ones to choose from.

Jet black wrapper. Okay weight on the hands. Almost no smell off the wrapper, sweet choco and tobacco off the foot. Cold draw of tobacco and rubber balloons. Off the rip over toasted french toast with maple syrup. Very sweet honey smell off the footsmoke. This tastes like a Padron with all the settings dialed up to 11. Wonderful
