Padron Damaso is a real departure for the Padron family, as this is their first Connecticut Shade wrapped cigar, and it is also a round shape, contrary to their usual box-pressed cigars. The cigar is mild to medium and includes Nicaraguan fillers in the blend. The cigar is named after Damaso Padron, grandfather of the company's founder, Jose O. Padron. This smooth and creamy cigar from Padron offers notes of caramel, hay and hazelnuts.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Claro wrapper is light, yellowish brown in color.

Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. This climate allows tobacco growers to grow Connecticut-seed wrapper in the shade without shade cloths, resulting in more economical wrapper.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Almost too easy draw. I found this to be more medium than mild. But it was a bit harsh imo. Well made but the flavor wasn’t enjoyable. Tasted like a dried out cigar (it wasn’t, measured 64% at lite up). You know, the harsh burning hay taste. Oh well.

Seemed like the first quarter of the cigar had trace notes of ammonia. Supposedly aged 3 years. Odd part was the first quarter of a stick is where the ammonia disapaptes first. These require extra care and rest. My first experience with a Connecticut seed wrapper Nicaraguan puro. Over all better than that average 10 dollar stick. Even burn, but the corona is a fast burn

I expected more from a Padron, but I suppose it’s what I get for going with their mild version. Mild is not in Padron’s wheel house. I’m usually a Maduro smoker but been on a Connecticut kick lately and decided to try the Damaso. Wow... great flavours: just enough cream, sweetness, hint of spice and cedar to make this a very enjoyable stick. A great addition to the Padron lineup. Box worthy.

Many folks don't know that the Padron Damaso No. 34 is a different blend than the original Damaso. The company has since revamped the cigar band to look different than the original Damaso. If you thought Damaso was too light a cigar for your taste, I suggest that you try No. 34 which is stronger. Damaso is the first line with a Padron name that uses Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, plus they are all round cigars. They are meant to appeal to the consumer who has not tried a Padron yet, intimidated by the darker, more powerful look of their cigars. The Damaso 34, however, can also be enjoyed by die-hard Padron fans. Maybe as a morning smoke, or when you are craving a mild to medium bodied stick, this beautiful cigar does not disappoint in both flavor and construction. It brings a delicious array of flavor to the palate, with cream, cedar, light pepper, vanilla, and dried fruit in the mix.

On January 20th 2017 I needed a very special cigar. I hadn't tried the Damaso yet, but being a Padron, I had confidence that it would fit the bill. I was right! Don't be fooled, this is not a boring cigar! It was bursting with wonderful flavors, generous smoke output and perfect Padron performance. The flavor profile was rich, complex and smooth with overtones of hay, toasted oak, and a piquant nuttiness. This is certainly a buy-a-box cigar. Pairing notes: This is one of those cigars that will pair with just about anything from a light beer to your best scotch.

One of the best cigars I've smoked ... all be it in my limited experience. Burn is impeccable. Taste gets better as you burn through it, the final third bringing mellow, caramel with a touch of oak. Would definitely try again.

I don't normally smoke cigars that are marketed as mild because most have NO flavor. That is not the case with this Padron. It had great flavor for a mild/medium stick and one of the most amazing burns and long ashes ever.

This is the perfect example of why you should not judge a book by its cover. It's a beautiful cigar with an elegant band, and one of the most boring cigars I've ever had. There's almost no taste. I love a good mellow cigar like a Dunhill Aged or the H. Upmann The Banker Currency, but this was like smoking air. Save your money, and look elsewhere. This was a complete waste of time that offered basically nothing of value.

With an x-cut via a v-cutter, I really enjoy the Padron Damaso Robusto. It's stout in flavor on retrohale, burns very well, a ton of Padron thick smoke, a great looking band. The only other Connecticut I have had that was this stout came in a densely rolled cigarillo. This will be my morning coffee cigar on weekends, here forward. I hope the do them in Corticos.

Being a huge Padron fan, I was very excited to try out their newest offering, the Damaso Connecticut. Normally I lean towards stronger cigars, but there was no way I was going to pass up the latest from my favorite brand. I am glad to say that although it is mild-medium in strength, it has a ton of flavor for a Connecticut leaf, and still retains that signature Padron texture. Strong notes of cedar took over immediately after lighting, and as the cigar progressed, I could sense leather and nutmeg seep in. All in all, the Padron Damaso has easily made its way to the top of my list for when I'm looking for something on the lighter side. Enjoy with coffee.
