Onyx Vintage Nicaragua

Using vintage tobaccos, the Onyx Vintage Nicaragua cigar line is indicative of the fine tobacco that comes from this Central American country. The cigar’s Habano maduro wrapper comes from a highly valued harvest that was grown in 2019. This carefully aged wrapper covers a binder and filler made of aged tobaccos. The blend’s use of vintage tobacco creates a robust smoking experience with smooth flavor transitions. The cigars are handmade at the Tabacalera AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua.

I’ll go ahead and predict that this cigar will be in the top five of CA’s 2025 list, if not number one! Slight earthy layers that are laced with new leather. Aromas of Baclava, and slightly sweet, but slightly not at the same time. The wrapper is like satin or silk, and smooth. This is a very special cigar, with a long finish that pleasantly stays with you. Like and onyx, this cigar is absolutely a jewel.

This go around I decided to review the Onyx Vintage Nicaragua-- it interested me as something that many people might overlook, and I love finding hidden gems. The cigar started with notes of earth and spice, a bold flavorful smoke that lasted maybe ten or twenty minutes into the first third. Eventually, the spice dies back leading to a core of earth as well as a light wood and a subtle sweetness. The cigar was constructed perfectly, with a good draw and no large veins on the wrapper-- visually, it was very appealing. Around the begining of the second thir the earthy notes seem to die back soom, leading to a pleasant medium body core that was easy to smoke throughout the length of the cigar. I actually really enjoyed it, much more than I thought I would. As far as pairing options I would definitely recommend something sweet to take the edge off of the earthiness, something like coffee with sugar or even a soda!

Coffee, spice, and chocolate! First time having this brand, tried it from a sampler, and I was wowed! Definitely will have to try more from this brand!
