In 2012, Curivari cigars released their Buenaventura line, which was introduced as their first wallet-friendly cigar. The Buenaventura Maduro is a line extension to this popular brand. It sports a deep, dark chocolatey Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper placed over a Nicaraguan binder and filler. The Curivari cigar brand was founded by Andreas Throuvalas in Europe. After achieving a great deal of success in Europe, Curivari Cigars expanded to the United States. The cigars are handmade in Nicaragua.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Mexican San Andres Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. San Andres Maduro is a thick, medium bodied dark leaf, also called San Andres Morron. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres Maduro is stalk cut and used for binder and wrapper.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Firm construction, easy open draw, mostly even burn once I got it lit. Medium to full bodied and toothy with good thick smoke output. Flavors of bittersweet dark chocolate, black coffee and a numbing peppery burn on my tongue and palate.

Medium to full strength, would have like some more sweetness from the maduro wrapper. Smoke was plentiful and a little oily. Burn in the first half was pretty bad but corrected itself in the second half.

I was quite shocked when I noticed that nobody at Neptune had reviewed this hidden gem yet, so I'm here today to open everyone's eyes (and taste buds) to the excellent Curivari Buenaventura Maduro. The reason I'm shocked is because it seems that just about daily, everyone at my particular store recommends this stick to customers asking for an affordable smoke that doesn't skimp on flavor. After many months of this, I think I should let our online customer base in on the action if they haven't discovered this tasty treat already! At first glance, the Curivari Buenaventura is admittedly nothing noteworthy; a small and simple brown and gold band adorns the chocolate brown wrapper, with not much else going on. With a price tag that is shockingly low in today's market, the Curivari Buenaventura will seem almost too good to be true once you light it up and take your first few puffs. Sporting a Mexican San Andres maduro wrapper on top of Nicaraguan binder and fillers, notes of chocolate and leather hit the palate instantly. After the first third, nutty notes are introduced, with a nice tobacco sweetness seeping in as well. The draw was wide open, and the burn stayed consistent throughout its medium-full bodied profile. Available in a multitude of sizes, this is one cigar that you can proudly smoke as either a daily workhorse OR an after-dinner Friday night indulgence. Trust me - you will want these readily available in your humidor! One of the best "bang for the buck" stogies currently in production, hands down.
