Desvalido Cigars
Desvalido is a Spanish term for “Those without hope.” But! The Desvalido cigar brand is anything but hopeless. Created by Ian Reith of Dapper Cigar Co., Raul Disla of NACSA, and the Oliva Tobacco Company, the Desvalido offers new hope to smokers looking for something different. This is a full-strength stick that features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, which is teamed up with a USA binder, and stuffed with USA and Nicaraguan filler leaves to deliver a very unique smoking experience. The Desvalido is handmade at the Nicaragua America Cigars factory in Esteli, Nicaragua.

I confess, I bought this for the price. GREAT price for this stick. Neptune needs to add a 6th category to these reviews for value. This is a great value. But is it a afficionado's stick like Neptune indicates in their description? Forgive me for diving into this a little. What does "an afficionado" stick even mean? It's subjective by definition. Subject to individual taste. Premium aged components matter of course. This has a beautiful oilyness to it. The pepper is there but different than many cigars as it is dulled and integrates with the tobacco and is whisper smooth, not harsh. Yes the flavors morph and develop throughout the smoke. All signs of "afficianado" status. So here is the rub; If is costs under $10 can it be an afficianado's cigar? Some of my freinds say NO. Really! How much does price and the artificial status it drags with it matter? I say screw that. This is a gourmet stick if it costs $2 bucks. The last Davidoff I smoked cost $35 and this kicks it's ass. Great stick. Slightly tight burn or it would get a perfect score.
