RoMa Craft Cigars

The RoMa Craft brand was founded in 2012 in Austin Texas by Mike Rosales, a cigar crafter, and Skip Martin, a cigar shop owner, who wanted to create a great cigar that appealed to all types of aficionados without sacrificing flavor or quality. RoMa Craft cigars range from medium to full bodied and are handmade in Nicaragua at the Nica Sueno factory, which is owned by Martin, and master blender Esteban Disla. In 2017, the RoMa Craft CroMagnon Anthropology received a 93 “Outstanding” rating by Cigar Aficionado and made it to their Top 25 Cigars of the Year.

The RoMa Craft Baka is a medium strength stick that is handmade in Nicaragua. Its toothy Cameroon maduro wrapper covers a filler and binder made of undisclosed tobaccos. The RoMa Craft Baka has a naturally sweet flavor profile with notes of pepper, spice, and nuts.

This climate allows tobacco growers to grow Connecticut-seed wrapper in the shade without shade cloths, resulting in more economical wrapper.

Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

Skip Martin, co-founder of the sought-after RoMa Craft brand, wanted to create a memorable cigar to mark his 50th birthday. He also wanted to challenge himself by working with Dominican tobacco. So, he asked legendary cigar maker Ernesto Perez-Carrillo if could help him. Ernesto agreed and the two embarked on a two-year journey to develop the blend for this milestone cigar. The blend consists of a dark tan Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed maduro wrapper covering a Dominican Republic binder and filler. The cigars were allowed to age for one year prior to shipping to allow the tobacco’s flavors to marry. The cigar not only celebrates Martin’s birthday, but it also marks the first time RoMa Craft has created a cigar in the Dominican Republic. The RoMa Craft Quinquagenario is handmade in the Dominican Republic at the famed Tabacalera La Alianza S.A., which is owned and operated by Perez-Carrillo. “Quinquagenario” is Spanish to describe someone in their fifties.

Paul Is the the CROMAGNON Epoch or aquataine epoch. Those are two different cigars.

I love a nice robusto vitola. And I love when that robusto leaves you both satisfied and wanting more. Sometimes, you smoke two. This new line from Roma Craft, Volstead, sports an Ecuadorian grown Sumatra hybrid wrapper, Mexican San Andres binder, and fillers from La Canela, Dominican Republic and Nicaraguan tobaccos grown in Condega, Jalapa and Pueblo Nuevo. This size, the Senator, is a limited production size made at the Nica Sueno factory that comes out once a year. It is a gorgeous cigar with a medium brown exterior and an exposed foot. My guess is that this is more of an aesthetic choice and it makes the stick look rustic but chic at the same time. This cigar is full of earthy and sweet flavor. The body is medium to full. You do not expect the complexity of this smoke, but it is there: good tobacco flavor, just the right amount of spice, and flavor notes that go from toasted cedar, to coffee, to black pepper. While the cigar gets bolder as you smoke it, it remains a medium bodied stogie. Overall a great cigar.

The RoMa Craft Volstead is quickly becoming one of my favorite smokes! This stick has a beautiful oily Sumatra wrapper with a Mexican binder and filler from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. Upon the first couple puffs you are gonna get a fair bit of spice with notes of earth and black pepper but as it goes on this cigar smokes beautifully and smooths out as you get past the first third. As you get halfway through the spice gets muted and you are greeted with notes of dry cocoa and rich coffee, and then as you get to the last third of the cigar we get that boldness again with the black pepper sneaking back in. The ash was very sturdy and I only required one touch up throughout my experience. If you are looking for a complex medium to full cigar look no further.

Wow what a burst of flavor! Not my absolute favorite cigar, but the flavors punch you in the face. At first burn flavors of wood with peppers come through mixed in with hickory. These flavors are prominent throughout the smoke until the end. The spiciness and wood fades and your left with this beautiful hint of hickory with an explosion on vanilla. Not flavors I love and certainly not an everyday smoke. But definitely a great cigar to mix in especially if you want to try something different with a ton of flavor

Draw: No issues. Appearance: Nice construction and color. Very basic label. Stayed together just fine all the way to the nub. Burn: Wavy and some mountainous burning. Aroma: Great leather smells Taste: 1/3 - 5*, Boot leather and coffee. 2/3 - 5*, lots of espresso, leather, and chocolate. very tasty. 3/3 - 3*, got hot and that made the flavors a little bitter. Basically the same as the rest. Overall I loved it and will try some other vitolas. Great coffee pairing, but very strong and full bodied. Started medium+ and moved to full very quickly. Not sure I could do anything much larger in the morning. Recommended.

Definitely high octane-be sure to have a full meal before diving into this flavour bomb. Never bitter but very full body with solid dense smoke. It was my first “potent” cigar and admittedly I enjoyed it immensely. Will definitely order more - great value as well

I usually love these sticks. Very full bodied, usually perfectly constructed. This stick however was the worst I’ve ever had. The cigar was not well packed, in fact , the draw was so loose it was like sucking a straw. Hardly any tobacco in center of the cigar. That said, this was a one off bad stick. I’ve had several of these and they’re usually great.

Crazy how they can pack so much flavor and complexity into this relatively small cigar. The heavier notes of leather, woods, earth and spice are kept in balance by a sweet and spicy finish. My specimen didn't want to burn evenly at times, but I'd like to try more to see if this was just a fluke.

A unique stick. Notes of Nuts, spice, earth and cream. Medium bodied. Burn was perfect and draw was a bit tight on the last one i tried. I just ordered another one so hopefully the draw improves on this one. Great overall smoke.

This is my favorite RoMa craft blend. I like the hints of sweetness from the combination of Brazilian wrapper & Indonesian binder. This feels down a notch in boldness and a little bit more complex. I will definitely smoke more of these.

Other than the fact that I often relate to the primitive blokes these sticks share their name with, I knew that I had to give them a test drive once I learned of the types of tobacco they are composed of. I ended up enjoying them so much that I have since set a match to nearly the entire line, excluding a couple of variants I have not been able to lay my hands on. To be perfectly honest, all of the vitolas I have had the pleasure of sampling are superb. If I were forced to choose the top dog in the pack based on the flavor balance alone, I would be tempted to opt for the Gran Perfecto or possibly the Blockhead. However, I chose this size to review because out of the lot of ‘em, it seemed to have the most consistent, trouble free burn. In addition to that, I believe that the slim-ish ring gauge may have lent them just a little bit more oomph than their siblings. Now, back to that composition… what you’ve got here is a tantalizing combination of rich Nicaraguan fillers, bound together by a sweet and nutty Cameroon binder, dressed to impress in a bold and beautiful Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The result is a cigar that you will straight up want to eat. Please do not actually do that, but seriously, you will want to. Big flavors of dark chocolate, cinnamon and baking spice will greet you right out of the gate alongside more subtle notes of raisin or fig, followed by hints of hearty bread and leather. As stated previously, the burn is impeccable, and typically requires no correction. Smoke output is generous, and the flavor is divine. Take it to another level by pairing with a high quality bourbon (Garrison Brothers Small Batch is an excellent choice). Cheers!

Every so often a cigar gives you an experience as opposed to a smoke. I tried it based of a Neptune staff recommendation and I was not disappointed in any way. Smooth blend through the 1st and 2nd third into a spicy and aromatic finish. One of my most peaceful 2 hours this year! I can’t fault this stick and encourage you to try it.

When one think about innovators in the cigar world Roma Craft Tobacco is always in the list. In just a few years they have acquired a huge numbers of followers. A variety of blends that has something for every type of smoker out there. The Aquitaine features a beautiful Ecuador Habano Ligero wrapper with a Cameroon wrappe. I have to say this is quite an interesting combination. The look is very simple but powerful, the cigar has a very imposing look. The wrapper is very oily and kind of rough, with some visible veins. The aroma of Coffee and chocolate is so provocative and promising. I can’t wait to light it up!. First puffs and I was inundated with an array of rich flavors, a wonderful bouquet of coffee, chocolate, and leather notes consistent all the way through the first and second third. Some nutty notes appeared in the transition to the last third for a delicious balance. The strength intensifies and the flavors became bolder and richer on the end. Flavors are consistent, body and strength as well. Construction is flawless and the smoke experience was delightful.

Recently we received a good selection of new cigars, but one in particular had stood out to me. Not just because it was a Roma Craft with the word GOODNESS on the box, but because it was a box pressed Connecticut. Being a sucker for box pressed cigars, I jumped at the chance to try it. As I giddily removed the cigar from the cellophane, I was greeted with a sweet hay and brown rice aroma. After applying a straight cut, I started to toast the exposed foot. Upon first puff, I tasted smooth cream and dry bread toast notes. Taking sips of my big cup of coffee, the natural creaminess of the cigar nicely enhanced the creamer I always add to my coffee. Half way in and enjoying the generous smoke output, the cigar changed to a heavy cedar taste with a light pepperiness to the finish and retro-hale. Chugging coffee and puffing my way past the band, I was hit with a strong blast of animal cracker notes. At the end with about a half inch left, I can happily say this is a great cigar for the mornings. The burn gets a little sideways at times, but I never had a real issue and it always corrected itself. I highly recommend any type of coffee, a single malt scotch or a light whiskey to pair with this cigar. Now go out and get some before we smoke them all! (ooga ooga)

Great little (somewhat) short smoker at 50 minutes and tremendous value. Started off very mellow with a smooth toasted caramel and nutty profile. Building in body throughout the first third to a solid medium+. Salted nuts, oak, leather, and coffee. Subtle cherry notes sprinkled throughout with a consistent cinnamon. Enjoyed a lot, will buy a box for an everyday smoke.

I really wanted to like this cigar. Great looking stick- rich chocolate looking wrapper, oily and easy on the first touch. Great size. That’s where it ended. Veiny (don’t know how else to say it?) wrapper has veins (feels like twigs?) burn is very inconsistent, will not stay lit. Draw is difficult, taste is okay- leathery and a little chalky. If you are expecting a great value, this isn’t it. If you are okay with constantly relighting and sucking hard on the draw then at least you know what you are getting. It’s not awful it’s just not fantastic. There are better sticks in this price range. I am not disappointed (i didn’t expect it to be a great cigar)- but I am not going to buy this one again.

I am a huge fan of RoMa Craft cigars, and I enjoy just about everything out of Nica Sueno. This cigar is an example of how a vitola can really change the profile of a cigar. For me, this size amps up the strength and flavors of Aquitaine from, say, the EMH or Anthropology lines. Enjoy!

I find RoMa Craft to be really underrated. I've had several offerings from RoMa Craft and they've all been quite good. Throughout the smoking experience, I found the strength and body to balance each out very nicely with neither attribute overshadowing the other. Great smoke for the price.

Neptune calls this stick a long panatela. To me, it's a skinny churchill. Either way, it's a fine smoke. Nice burn, perfect draw, and just the right taste and complexity. Buy some.

Great stick for the money, but get ready for this one. The first third was very spicy, although it mellowed out to an enjoyable with wood, earth, leathery notes. The aroma was pleasant and has some floral notes that i picked up momentarily half way. The burn was pretty poor, but with a few touch ups it was managable. I enjoyed it for a solid hour. It wouldn't be my favorite first cigar, but it's definitely a nice smoke. Regards to the staff at the dadeland store.

With a name like Whiskey Rebellion I was expecting more of a punch than this delivers. Not bad....but the first third started bland. Spice flavor picked up modestly in the second, but I guess I was expecting more flavor. That said, nice looking, great burn, good draw. Just wasn’t blown away.

Great looking cigar. Good construction. I had to fix the burn more often than I care for (ligero wrapper), but flavors were good enough to keep me interested: spicy, earth, other deep dark flavors, and a hint of a roasted "something" in the background (like charred meat on a BBQ grill). Definitely BOLD flavors and on the plus side of strength. Probably not an ideal choice for a novice smoker. But if you feel like a rebel, this pairs very well with a burbon. enjoy!

I just can’t have enough of the Roma Craft Intemperance Whiskey Rebellion. It’s been a regular in my weekly rotation since I tried it, packed with flavor, great construction… this cigar is on point in every sense. An Ecuadorian Habano ligero wrapper, Indonesian binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers make the perfect combination for a full body cigar that is perfectly well balanced. When one flavor does not subjugate the others but complement each other. Once fired up you won’t be disappointed. Even though the cigar starts up with strong spicy notes one can feel rich cedar and earthy flavors, hints of coffee and lots of pepper. Don’t be scared, all this is surrounded by a cloud of creaminess which is a delight to the palate. The second third is all about coffee and cedar with a dash of pepper that intensifies on the last third. It doesn’t mean it overshadows the rest of the flavors but it does dominate the last part with coffee/chocolate and cedar notes creating a balance around it. The cigar is beautiful, flawless construction, nice even burn line and it stayed lit the whole time. I’m a slow smoker and I really take the time to enjoy my cigars and I get annoyed when I have to relight a cigar too many times. I haven’t had this problem not even once with the Intemperance. Excellent price…so, what are you waiting for to try it?

RoMa Craft Tobac was founded in 2012 by industry veterans Mike Rosales and Skip Martin. Following a simple philosophy of using the finest tobacco, skilled craftsmen and allowing ample time to age, RoMa Craft has earned a reputation for creating quality boutique cigars which are highly sought after by aficionados. The company is based in Austin, TX with factories and offices in Esteli and San Jose. The RoMa WR McFarland is 5×50 midsize stick, featuring a medium Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Indonesian binder and mixed Dominican/Nicaraguan filler. I would call it a Robusto, however, it has an interesting torpedo shape which comes to a rounded point at the end which I love cutting at an angle. The cigar construction has visible seams with little to no veining and a nice triple cap. The wrapper doesn’t quite reach the end of the foot, exposing some of the binder and filler. The WR Cigar is adorned with a double band, one with the RoMa Craft logo and the Intemperance badging, a second band with the snake and tree logo on one side and the words Whiskey Rebellion 1794 on the other. The Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has a little tooth and feels slightly rough but is nice and oily looking. It has a faint smell of barnyard with a hint of cocoa and a little spice on the nose. First Third: Upon initial light, I was picking up strong notes of coco with a bit of spice in the retro. There was a hint of bitterness left on the pallet, a vegetal taste with a good medium finish. The cap started coming unwrapped after my cut, but I was able to fix it with a little saliva, this was a minor aggravation as it was not being held well and needed repeated attention. The burn was not razor sharp but seems to be progressing evenly, no runs or severe canoeing. I was also tasting flavors like mesquite or a burning charcoal grill. The ash was a nice salt and pepper color showing off rippled layers as it burned down. The cigar produced ample amounts of smoke with a single draw which gave the perf

The Roma Craft Baka Bantu is a limited cigar, as they only make 1,000 boxes a year. Roma Craft never disappoints with their cigars and how they have changed the way we look at Cameroon tobacco. The wrapper is a Cameroon, binder and filler are undisclosed. The pre-light/cold draw is a sweet taste with some hints of pepper and a woody taste. The Baka starts with a nutty taste and still some hints of pepper and very earthy flavor. Due to the small format the second part of the cigar changes somewhat dramatically with an increase in strength but not for long. It goes back to a medium profile , keeping the earthy notes on the retro-hale. The final third of the cigar keeps the woody and earthy notes with an amazing burning line.

Cold draw: Leather and cocoa. 1/3: Lots of red pepper, spice, black pepper, cocoa, oak and nuts. Burn was slightly wavy. 2/3: Red pepper on the finish, cream, charred wood. Touch up required to correct the burn. 3/3: Leather, nuts and wood. This cigar has a fairly basic and straightforward flavor profile, nothing too exciting and I became a bit disinterested in the second and final thirds. Draw was a bit on the tight side, found myself putting in more effort than normal on most puffs. Consistent flavors throughout with no real transitions. Final smoke time was just under 1.5 hours. At under $8 it is a decent value, but don’t think I will be smoking this one again.

This one is a power house! Beautifully constructed with an understated band. Draw with a 7mm V-cut is on the tighter side, a given this cigar is packed firm with tons of tobacco. Burn was a bit uneven to start but stabilized by the start of the second third. Lots of smoke and great aroma. Flavor tends toward the spicier side, with leathery, nutty, and floral notes at times.

This Intemperance BA XXI is my first venture into Roma Craft cigars-- and what a beauty and good choice it was! This cigar features a very dark Brazilian wrapper around an Indonesian binder with Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. Upon first light, a delicious chocolate sweetness is upfront slowly joined by hints of nuts, pepper, and leather. GREAT combination to start off with! Into the second third, the intensity and pepper ramp up a notch but still continues to balance out with a sweet creaminess and almost a citrus note. Once again, a beautiful combination. Pretty much the same notes follow to the very end. This cigar had nice complexity and had a perfect balance from start to finish. Construction was never an issue--great burn, draw and strong ash. All in all, this was a rich cigar loaded with flavor. The price point is also amazing -- you definitely get your money's worth with this one. A must try for sure!
