Macanudo is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018, and in honor of this noteworthy milestone, they are releasing the latest offering in the acclaimed Inspirado line: introducing the Macanudo Inspirado Red. Made as an alternative to the brand's typically milder options, the Inspirado Red is a full-bodied Nicaraguan cigar with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras. Strong and spicy, bold and peppery, this isn't your father's Macanudo.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Tasting Notes: Bold cigar with leathery and cedar notes Appearance: The look of the cigar is a dark brown with a slight oily finish First Third: Straight from the light I get hints of ceder and earthy tobacco. The draw is excellent but not a thick flow of smoke. The cigar hits the medium mark I’d say. Second third: About 20 minutes in I’m getting the same cedar and leather notes with a slight hint of pepper. Burn is still perfect and has not had to be re-lit once yet. Last Third: Going into the last third of the cigar. The smoke production has gone from light smoke to heavy smoke. It’s kept its consistency through the smoke not a super complex cigar. It has kept the same tasting notes the entire time. Overall a great smoke I would recommend to anyone that wants a consistent and good smoke.

Starting out the first third, the Macanudo Inspirado Red Gigante immediately exhibits several flavors, none of which could be called dominant at any point: espresso beans, dark chocolate, cinnamon, spices, oak, and leather. The red pepper on the retro hale is the strongest of any flavors, just strong enough to supersede all the other flavors without overwhelming them it's a great first third. The second third of the Macanudo Inspirado Red Gigante features the same red pepper on the retro hale it might even be a bit more aggressive while the flavors in the profile are close to a carbon copy of the first third, including cinnamon, dark chocolate, baker’s spices, oak, and freshly roasted coffee beans. The berry sweetness from the first third remains about the same as well, present enough to pinpoint while coming nowhere close to affecting anything. And in the final third, the berry sweetness from the first two thirds increases enough to become a more significant part of the profile joining the other notes of oak, dark cocoa nibs, bitter espresso beans, earth, hay and just a touch of creamy nuts. The red pepper on the retro hale is as aggressive as ever, easily keeping track with the other flavors in the profile.

Good stick...great fir the price nice oily wrapper and smoke good burn only a couple small touch ups. Draw was snug for my liking but still fine to smoke. Flavors were nice sweet notes some spice and creamyness comming and going super oily smoke that coats your mouth and makes for a very long finish. This stick claims to be macanudos strongest stick that may be but it’s maybe med-full as cigars in general go not a powerhouse which is good for me. Will def be buying more. Side note the orange is my favorite of the line this one is probably second

I have smoked the Macanudo Inspirado White before and thought what the heck why not the Red. And you threw in a Quad lighter to boot. The appearance and burn of this cigar was absolutely right up there with any of the other Mac's I have tried in the past. Excellent! The taste, aroma and draw kind of made me feel as if I was sitting on the veranda of an old southern estate. Great Smoke!!

Thought this was something like the white. I was wrong, this cigar kungfu karate chopped me in the back of the head with a fury usually reserved for a John Wick film. If you like pepper bombs, this is your kind of cigar. I've never been slapped in the face with such force, but I will say, I loved every minute of it

Plume is excellent to have on your cigars. It indicates a perfect cigar and a well-maintained humidor. When your cigars acquire plume, this is the optimal time to sit back and have a smoke. Even though bloom does not improve the taste of your cigar, it just feels great to smoke

To celebrate their 50th Anniversary, Macanudo released the Inspirado Red. It is a full-bodied Nicaraguan cigar with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras. The Macanudo Inspirado Red Robusto is a beautiful, dark, box-pressed cigar that is a complete departure from what we normally expect from this famous brand. At first light, I felt a big array of coffee, roasted nuts, pepper, a touch of sweetness and some lingering dark chocolate. The second third had more earth, almond and cocoa notes than the preceding part. Pepper and spice backed off a bit, but never really went away. Wood, caramel, and some leather made appearances as well. The draw was smooth and clean with a beautiful light gray ash. I would recommend the Macanudo Inspirado Red Robusto to anyone wishing to try a full-bodied cigar at a very good price. Enjoy!

I tried smoking this cigar on two occasions and unfortunately both times the burn on the cigar was terrible. Kept having to re-light and the draw was very loose.
