A.J. Fernandez marks ten years of New World with the Decenio, a commemorative blend that reflects the line’s journey from breakout hit to modern staple. Handcrafted at the San Lotano factory in Nicaragua, it features a dark San Andrés wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras. Designed to mark a milestone, Decenio reflects the evolution of the brand, offering a refined smoking experience built on the foundation of one of A.J. Fernandez’s most recognized lines.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Colorado maduro wrapper is milk chocolate brown.

Mexican San Andres Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. San Andres Maduro is a thick, medium bodied dark leaf, also called San Andres Morron. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres Maduro is stalk cut and used for binder and wrapper.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Firm construction, open draw, wonky burn at the start requiring a few touchups and one relight about 2/3 of the way through. Full bodied and very toothy with thick, rich blue-gray smoke output and flavors of cedar, black pepper spice and a hint of citrusy floral sweetness.

There's certain cigars that you just KNOW are going to be a hot topic after their release, and the New World Decenio by AJ Fernandez is a perfect example of that. When I first heard about this upcoming celebratory release, I knew it would be the talk of the cigar town, and now that it's been out for a few weeks, I decided to board the hype train. I'll start by saying that I've always enjoyed AJ's brands, but in recent years found that some of his blends have started becoming a little too "samey" for my palate. Not the case with the new Decenio! I'm happy to say that this has to be my favorite AJ Fernandez offering in a long time! Those smokers worried about a pepper bomb have nothing to fear, as the Decenio is full-bodied yet smooth as butter, with little spice to be found. Notes of leather dominate the palate, with touches of espresso and almonds swirling around as well. Progressing along into the second half, a subtle citrus note begins to seep in, and by the end the leathery goodness is thicker than ever, making for one bold but svelte experience. The draw on my toro was immaculate, wide open and billowing a ton of smoke as per most of AJ's sticks. The burn was mostly fine, with a little touch up needed once or twice, but nothing that annoyed me. Although the spice is low on this one, it is still very much a strong smoke, and is best saved as an after-dinner treat. All in all, I highly recommend this stogie, and have already enjoyed 3 in the short time it's been out. The hype is real. Celebrate a decade of excellence with the new New World Decenio!

The new New World! Typically great construction (an AJ given). Similar to New World Oscuro but the MSA wrapper brings red pepper, the Honduran filler brings more and different earth, and with maple syrup, caramel and orange sweetness. Worthy addition to line, great value, and definitely worth a try
