Named after Diego Velazquez de Cuellar, a Spanish Conquistador who travelled to the New World with Christopher Columbus and later became governor of Cuba, the Villiger Cuellar Connecticut Kreme is a mild premium cigar that will help you explore the creamy richness of the Connecticut leaf. As its name implies, the Cuellar Connecticut Kreme sports an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper that is draped over a Dominican binder and filler to create a mild smoking experience. The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. This climate allows tobacco growers to grow Connecticut-seed wrapper in the shade without shade cloths, resulting in more economical wrapper.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Dominican Republic is a traditional tobacco-growing country. In the 60's, a Cuban seed was introduced and the resulting tobacco, called Piloto Cubano, became famous as a good substitute of the Cuban tobacco that was no longer allowed to enter the USA. Piloto Cubano is full bodied while the Dominican Olor tobacco is milder but more aromatic.

For my review this week, I selected the Villiger Cuellar Connecticut Kreme Torpedo. Appearance wise, this cigar is gorgeous. The elegant white band draped over the silky smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper make for a very inviting presentation. Upon lighting you're greeted with a wave of nutty, creamy aromas. The torpedo has an excellent draw and prduces lots of smoke. Tasting notes of cashews and hay envelope the pallet in the first third. I detected a subtle aroma of spicy cedar in the retro-hale, which I thought complemented the cigar quite well. Moving on to the second third, the spice is fades while that nutty sweetness lingers. At this point in my session the burn needed correcting a few times. No drastic corrections were required however, owing to its good construction. Warm flavors of baked bread and honey are present, and its spice still tickles the nose. The Kreme started strong and ended strong with the same sweet and nutty flavors. A smooth finish of café con leche lingers on the pallet after finishing. This light, creamy Dominican selectionn makes for a great morning cigar to pair with a coffee and a crossword puzzle to start your day right.

This cigar was disappointing waste of time. As soon as I cut the head the contents were very loosely contained. The burn was also lopsided. It was mild but had a pepper flavor which tasted harsh or bitter. The flavor profile had no change, it started off lousy and stayed that way throughout. Nothing creamy about it. Just another cigar with a typical Connecticut description using all the cigar buzz words.
