The Golden Line Connecticut is the second release of the ever-popular Hot Cake brand by HVC, which is known to sell like “hot cakes.” Hot Cake cigars are known for their boldness and potency. However, the Golden Line Connecticut takes a walk on the mild side. Its Nicaraguan binder and filler are covered by a smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper. This is the first time the HVC Hot Cake line has released a cigar with a Connecticut Shade wrapper. The cigars are handmade in Nicaragua at HVC’s factory in Esteli.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Claro wrapper is light, yellowish brown in color.

Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. This climate allows tobacco growers to grow Connecticut-seed wrapper in the shade without shade cloths, resulting in more economical wrapper.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Much like it's maduro counterpart, this is a great option for when your short on time. Not quite what the bigger vitolas are but that's to be expected and not a knock at all.

An okay cigar, medium to full bodied CT flavors, it was sweet but also spicy throughout the whole smoke. Towards the end it got more earthy. The sweetness was nice, but didn't like the spice very much. Maybe a little too strong for a CT cigar to my liking. Strength was a solid medium+. Burn and construction were good, but that's about it. Not great, not terrible.

The HVC Hot Cake Golden Line Connecticut Corona Gorda is what I will be reviewing today. This cigar sports a beautiful Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper along with Nicaraguan Binder and fillers from Jalapa and Esteli. The cigar is everything I expected: super creamy and a bit stronger than I anticipated, which is a huge plus as I tend to like more medium- or full-bodied cigars. Notes of cedar, leather, cocoa, and small bits of pepper are the strong points of this cigar. I felt tiny amounts of what seemed like lemon, caramel, and cumin, which was very impressive, as I didn't expect this much flavor from this cigar. Draw was perfect with no adjustments needed at all; burn was not as pleasant, however, and I needed to relight a couple times. This cigar is lovely with a morning coffee and absolutely wonderful for any mild or medium cigar lover.

Very good balanced smoke with notes of caramel spice and cedar. Construction was excellent and the burn line was nearly perfect needed no touch ups. Had a smaller vitola this week but this one had less spice and more balance. Really good cigar and it was packed well and received in great condition with fast shipping.

Not the prettiest wrapper, draw is VERY open and be careful removing the foot band. Aside from that it is a very good cigar that anyone can smoke. Very light.
