CAP Pilon is named after the "Pilón", in tobacco parlance, a stack of dried tobacco leaves that is created to begin the process of fermentation. Fermenting tobacco in a pilon is an old Cuban tradition that allows natural fermentation with maximum flavor and color. The makers of CAO have blended a cigar using a silky Ecuadorian Habano wrapper leaf that has been fermented in a pilon. The wrapper has a beautiful color and the cigar is woody, spicy and sweet.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Colorado maduro wrapper is milk chocolate brown.

Ecuadorian Habano
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.
Binder
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

I don't know anything about aging tobacco, but whatever they did with this cigar seems to have worked. It had rich medium bodied leathery flavors with a subtle floral sweetness in the background. The burn wasn't perfect, but it wasn't a problem either. My one complaint would be that the draw was right on the borderline of "too firm". It was still smokeable, but it really took a lot of effort to get it to breathe, and if you put it down for even a minute, it threatened to die out completely. Pairing notes: Try it with a Manhattan, but be sure your drink is ready before you light the cigar.

The new CAO Pilon immediately caught my attention as I was very curious as to the way the wrapper was fermented -- in a round pilon -- circular stacking which dates way back! This process takes almost double the time as other fermentation processes. This cigar was a long time coming! The cigar starts off creamy, sweet and woody. There is a slight lingering of pepper notes. A bit further into the first third, a really nice almost spice develops and continues with a slight spice and woodiness--nice medium smoke. The middle third is creamy and woody also but somewhat of a fruity note appears. The Pilon is still creamy and smooth into the last third with the spice disappearing. Overall, this cigar was very enjoyable and not overpowering The burn and draw were perfect the entire smoke. Definitely a cigar worth trying with a great price point. Perfect cigar for a staple rotation in the humidor This cigar can be smoked any time day or night.

Just a flat out great looking and tasting cigar. Add in the price point and CAO has a winner in my book. Great even burn, lots of smoke, very tasty. Good any time medium smoke.
