Illusione Maduro uses San Andres wrapper from Mexico, considered the best maduro leaf in the market. The natural properties of this wrapper give the cigar an earthy sweet aroma and adds spiciness and nuttiness to the core Illusione blend. Illusione maduro is a medium to full bodied cigar made with Nicaraguan filler and binders.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Mexican San Andres Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. San Andres Maduro is a thick, medium bodied dark leaf, also called San Andres Morron. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres Maduro is stalk cut and used for binder and wrapper.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

This is one of my top 5 sticks in my box. Smooth draw and no bitter after taste but packed with flavor. They may seem like they are wrapped tight but they hold their ash well and really have a great draw. I almost hate giving such a good review because I know it will make them harder to come by, but I cannot be that selfish to my fellow BOTL.

This is a very complex cigar. The first third completely confused my palate. Flavors were scrambled and fleeting. Recovery was good on the second ad final third. Some experience definitely helps before "stepping up" to this cigar.

Really enjoyed this one. Typical coffee chocolate you expect from a Nicaraguan. Also picked up a nice raisin note in the finish. A few touch ups needed. Only downside was it was a little tight of a draw for me. Was resting for 9 months in 66%. Would still buy again, but not a box purchase for me because of the draw

Generally do like cigars with over 54 gauge, but this was very a big surprise. Cocoa notes and dark coffee. Could not pick any other notes but I definitely would keep this in my humidor. Lasted close to 1 1/2 hours, so long and enjoyable stick.
