Released in 2013, the Asylum 13 Corojo made a big splash in the cigar world by using corojo tobacco and producing long, thick cigars that range from 6” to 11” in length and 52 to 80-ring gauge. The cigars are not only big in size but are full-strength and packed with flavor. The Asylum 13 Corojo is made of 100% Honduran tobacco and uses a smooth, light-brown Corojo wrapper. Veteran aficionados will find this an invigorating smoke. Novice enthusiasts who want to expand their smoking portfolio will find it challenging but not daunting. The cigars are handmade in Tabacos Rancho Jamastran in Honduras.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Honduras, a Central American country which shares a border with Nicaragua, is widely known in the premium cigar industry as the ideal place to grow Cuban and Connecticut seed tobaccos. Danli and the Jamastran Valley is considered the heart of Honduras’ cigar industry. The Jamastran Valley is known for producing a full-bodied tobacco that draws strong comparisons to the tobacco grown in the Pinar del Rio region of Cuba. This same region is also known for its Connecticut shade grown and Corojo shade grown tobacco. In addition, Honduras produces Cuban-seed sun grown filler tobaccos of the highest quality.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.

Honduran cigar wrapper has the reputation of great quality, with wrapper leaf being grown in the Jamastran, Talanga and San Agustin valleys. Some of the wrappers being grown in Honduras include Corojo, Honduran Claro, Honduran Criollo, Honduran Jamastran Viso Rosado, Honduran San Agustin Havana Seed and San Agustin Ligero.

The wrapper on this cigar has incredible structure making this giant cigar easy to smoke, as large as it is it's not super tight so it's a mellow smoke, first 2 thirds with a good ramp up at the end, burn was good I think my choice of vcut may have caused a bit of unevenness on 2 sides large cigars can take some finesse but can also be a fun experience

The cigar became unraveled after I removed the paper wrapped by the manufacturer. The cigar was falling apart during the smoke which had a terrible consequences for the draw, burn, taste, aroma. It was a constant battle relighting this cigar. I cannot recommend it. I had kept it over a month in ideal conditions in my humidor previous to lighting it.

I found a really nice 80 guage cutter, so of course I had to try it out. The thing that makes this cigar is the draw. It's perfect. Nice medium +. Burns a little faster, but that's a compliment. Was just gonna be a novelty buy, but I'll keep a couple around. I keep underestimating Asylum.

Fairly loose draw and good burn. This a light wrapper full of flavor, low nicotine, and delivers value for the price. I’m glad they make this in a more manageable size at 6X52 and not just 7X70 monstrosities. If you’re looking for a change of pace from heavier bodied cigars, you could do worse than this.

Absolute garbage, dry as a bone and tasteless the wrappers cracked on nearly all of them. Only bought because the Maduro was out of stock but will never buy these again. Found a boveda in the box that was practically fossilized, must have been sitting in some warehouse drying out for who knows how long. $187 wasted.

As I set here. Sucking down the cigar into my lungs they are screaming please stop. I keep sucking it down. I am on box 2 now and it still about kills my lungs each draw I take. I am about have way threw 27 and don’t know if the old lungs will make it. It’s the strongest cigar I have smoked. I love it and will smoke them till the old lungs give up!!!

These are big sticks that require 2 1/2 to 3 hours of smoking time. They look good, smell good, and the ash held tight and fell off in big chunks. I was rather disappointed though considering the rave reviews on these cigars. I personally didn’t care for the flavor profile of them. The only ones I liked were the Corojo, they were quite enjoyable. They are ok to have for long outdoor activities like golfing or sitting around a camp fire.

A great way to try the Asylum range. Im an Asylum fan, but not exclusively. Like to mix it up with several brands but you cant go wrong in trying whats out there with this sampler, and, of course, with it being Neptune the cigars will invariably arrive in great condition and ready to go.

A great cigar if you have plenty of time. The wrapper is thinner than many and can be a little delicate and more prone to cracking than many other cigars I smoke so storage is very important with this cigar. Milder on the palate than normal Asylum 13.

This is a well-made cigar for people who like big rings. It lasts long and tastes good, and the price, considering its size, is reasonable. The only drawback I have noticed is that some of them seem a little over-filled, which can lead to the wrapper cracking occasionally.

As a diehard lover of Nicaraguan most of these were outstanding, especially the straight jacket and the Ogre. The Corojo was good if that is your type of stick, I prefer a richer taste but it was quite tasty and especially complex. The rest were as expected very good dark Nicaraguan sticks!

What a wonderful cigar. Although it says it is a full flavor I personally do not or it seems like it is not. The lighter wraper and easy draw. Although i have to touch it up a few times but that is to be expected. Love the 6x80s and now since i have tried both the 8x80 in the dark and light wrapper all i can say is these are great and when you do decide to smoke one of these giants. Set aside plenty of time because there is plenty to enjoy.

This is the fabulous Asylum 13 Corojo in an 80 ring. If you liked the 80 x 6, you'll love the 80 x 8 even more. Its flavour profile is more subtle than the 6", which is what you'd expect from an 8". I can't wait to try the 80 x 10 when it appears.

I’ve been smoking cigars for over forty years. That doesn’t, necessarily, make me an expert, but it gives you an idea of how many thousands of cigars I’ve smoked in my lifetime. I’m a firm believer that the length of the cigar should be in the following proportions to its ring: a 60 ring should be at LEAST 6 inches long, preferably longer; a 70 ring cigar should be at LEAST 7 inches long, preferably longer, and so on. So, in the case of this cigar, it should be at least 8 inches long, preferably longer. If the cigar is shorter than the above proportions, the flavour doesn’t fully develop. It’s rather like good red wine: if the wine is not aerated, the notes don’t fully develop. For several decades, I smoked a 95 x 10 (see images). It was, simply, the most satisfying cigar I’ve ever smoked. I experimented with it. For example, I would cut off an inch before lighting; it was not the same cigar. I then tried cutting off two inches before lighting; again, it was not the same cigar – the notes, simply, did not develop. I even tried cutting the cigar in half before lighting; it was a disaster! The smoke was so hot, it burnt my mouth! So, I would strongly urge the manufacturer to increase the length of this, otherwise, very enjoyable cigar. I think that the extra length would only improve its characteristics. I would also urge the manufacturer to make this cigar available in a larger variety of wrapper. This cigar is rated as a medium flavour, verging on full. I would have classified it as medium bodied. What do you think? I'd be interested to read your comments.
