Back in great-grandma and grandma’s day, the family matriarchs would gather on an early Sunday morning and start prepping and slow cooking the old family recipe for the “Sunday Sauce” or “Sunday Gravy.” It was a meticulous process that could not be rushed. Much like crafting a memorable cigar. The Diesel Sunday Gravy is a limited-edition, seasonal release cigar that was inspired by this time-honored home-cooking tradition. Each quarterly release features a new blend and a new size. The Sunday Gravy is the first Diesel cigar to be offered by the Forge Cigar Company (which is part of Scandinavian Tobacco Group who also owns General Cigar Co.) The blends were developed by master cigar blender AJ Fernandez and Justin Andrews, Diesel’s Senior Brand Manager. The cigars are crafted at AJ’s Tabacalera Fernandez factory in Nicaragua.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Natural wrapper, also known as Colorado Claro, is light brown in color.
Wrapper
Ecuadorian Habano
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.
Binder
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Honduras
Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Cuban expatriate AJ Fernandez produces handmade cigars in Esteli, Nicaragua at the Tabacalera Fernandez factory. Fernandez learned everything he knows about tobacco and cigarmaking from his late grandfather, cigar legend Alejandro Robaina.

This cigar didn't connect with me and reading the reviews, I wanted to like it. 1st unforgivable offense: Construction - draw was too tight, this caused me to puff too hard and get a charred taste b4 the first half. Once that happens with any cigar it's downhill from there. Maybe I got the unlucky dud in the batch. Consider this: compared to DE factory smokes this COULD have held it's own. But for twice the price, it's a tough competition. Diesel is a good brand and I enjoy many other blends from the company. This one might even be good. But if I have to smoke 2 - $5 stick to enjoy a good blend, I'd rather spend $10 and get a good cigar. in closing this may not be that bad but the competition has gotten so good it's a tough sell.

This is a good smoke. I received 1 as a stocking stuffer for Christmas. I really enjoyed it. However, everyone were out of them as they were a limited edition. A great deal on an inexpensive good cigar. Glad to see Neptune got some in.

Now my opinion might be bias since I'm already a big diesel/aj fan. However without a doubt, I would purchase this specific release again. While I'm trying all 4 of the cigars coming out in the series. For 5$ per stick, the flavors it gives are solid. The only issue is that it's a bit monotonous and unsurprising. If it would maybe carry some type of sweetness or more woodsiness instead of savory earth. It'd be more if a win than it already is
