CLE Azabache is a dark cigar by Christian Eiroa originally made exclusively for TAA (Tobacconists Association of America) cigar shops. Azabache in Spanish means "dark coal", and this cigar uses a Mexican maduro wrapper that is as dark as it gets. The blend is completed with a Honduran binder and fillers from Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru, all handmade and box pressed in Christian Eiroa's Aladino factory in Honduras.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Honduras, a Central American country which shares a border with Nicaragua, is widely known in the premium cigar industry as the ideal place to grow Cuban and Connecticut seed tobaccos. Danli and the Jamastran Valley is considered the heart of Honduras’ cigar industry. The Jamastran Valley is known for producing a full-bodied tobacco that draws strong comparisons to the tobacco grown in the Pinar del Rio region of Cuba. This same region is also known for its Connecticut shade grown and Corojo shade grown tobacco. In addition, Honduras produces Cuban-seed sun grown filler tobaccos of the highest quality.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. In San Andres de Tuxtla (in the state of Vera Cruz), there is a very interesting production of Sumatra seed wrappers. Dark air cured tobaccos are produced in Mexico, mainly in Vera Cruz and Tampico provinces, on the East Coast along the Gulf. There is also some production in Yucatan. Mexico's volcanic soil yields tobacco that is spicy and earthy, with a very distinctive flavor.

Received 1 CLE CONNECTICUT with an Asylum sampler and threw it in the humidor and forgot about it. Connecticuts are usually too mild, the hay an earth usually don't appeal to me but when I finally smoked this stick, I lt was not like any I've had before. 1st off,, the construction is top notch,, the transitions in flavors had my attention all the way to the nub. Nutty cashew, salted buttery creamy notes of light charred wood with a touch of honey lingered. Very slight pinch of spice. The draw is open and airy which allowed for a razor sharp burn with slow and even inhales. I think this would be a great alternative for a cuban fix. Im looking forward to sampling the rest.

very enjoyable cigar. has a bit of a tight draw but still provides ample smoke. while it took me a few minutes to get into it I thoroughly enjoyed smoking the final 2/3 of the cigar. really loved the aroma and it left me wanting more. this is the first time I smoked this brand and I am glad I tried it. I look forward to smoking another.

Stout and sturdy, a good strong smoke. Very similar to the CLE Prieto in flavor, but smoother and more nuanced. Wish this was in the regular roster and not just a TAA special. It would find a permanent rotation in my humidor.

Hard draw at first but with flavors like spices and light light chocolate hints.. The cigars opens up half way with a lighter draw. Flavors seem to die down towards the end.. A pleasant cigar but not my favorite.

Christian Eiroa has made a great cigar with the Azabache. It's a very nice full body cigar. From the start, you get a nutty and chocolate flavor with a small amount of spice. Halfway through the cigar, the spice disappears but the light chocolate flavor continues. A nice creamy and coffee flavor appears. It makes the cigar more enjoyable. The full bodied strength is still present throughout the smoker. Eiroa has once again made a great cigar for everyone to enjoy.

This cigar has such a balanced taste right from the get go, but would not burn right. I rested this thing for 2 weeks before I smoked it and the wrapper would not burn! Such an unenjoyable experience when you fight burn problems during the entire cigar. Such a shame because the taste was there. Wrapped had kind of a funky barnyard smell but the cigar overall smelled and tasted awesome during the short periods it would burn correctly. Ultimately, I chucked after dicking around for 45 minutes to try and make it smoke. What a waste!
