San Cristobal Ovation Decadence Toro 6 1/2 * 52, Box of 22

San Cristobal Ovation is a 2015 limited edition cigar crafted by the legendary Pepin Garcia for Ashton Cigars. Only 3,000 boxes made of this decadent full bodied smoke hand rolled in Esteli, Nicaragua. Features a dark and lustrous San Andres Oscuro wrapper that has been fermented for 2.5 years. All Ovation tobaccos are grown on Garcia family land and aged for an extensive period. A proprietary selection of Corojo, Habano and Criollo leaves make up the double binder and filler, with an extra kick provided by a rare, Esteli-grown Criollo-seed Ligero.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Mexican San Andres Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. San Andres Maduro is a thick, medium bodied dark leaf, also called San Andres Morron. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres Maduro is stalk cut and used for binder and wrapper.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

The "Garcia Family Industrial Park" located in Esteli, Nicaragua is a seven-acre complex with 9 buildings, over 1900 employees, where the Garcias supervise their cigar production from the tobacco field to the roller's table. Their Miami headquarters house 12 rollers that make all of the company's "handmade in Miami" brands.

This is a CIGAR. Heavy, oily leather and dark chocolate notes, plenty of creamy smoke. It burnt just beautifully, draw was on point, took little over 2 hours to tackle. I might have preferred a smaller size but this is going into the rotation. Another magnificent stick in the San Cristobal line.

The draw was fairly hard. Still smokable but would have been 10x better with an easier draw. The draw detracted from enjoying quite a bit. Burn was ok. Taste was…….odd. Can’t say I liked it much. Not bad but not to my liking. Won’t buy again.

Nicely constructed cigar that started not as strong as expected with a creamy and woody flavor that did kick in with the pepper on the back half. Fairly firm draw but consistent burn. Underlying sweetness throughout. Worth a try.

My new favorite. From the initial toast down to the nub. I've enjoyed all of the San Cristobal's I've had but this blew me away. Medium to full bodied, generous yet balanced notes of coffee, spices, wood and chocolate. Good smoke output, good draw, good construction, amazing nose and taste.

Very good cigar, needs a month in humidor to bring out its true flavor. Minor construction issues and a couple of re-light corrections. First inch is a little harsh but by mid smoke it displays its class.. High 80s, maybe 90. Very beautiful cigar and a stalwart smoke!

Wow, the box and cigars are the finest quality and look. The cigar band is beautiful and proudly displayed on the top of the box (huge - covers the entire box). The cigar produces decent smoke with true maduro flavors of coffee, dark chocolate and hints of raisin type leather. Put this in the hand of a guest and you're a true winner!

Not one of my favorites. Odd taste. Glad I only ordered one. Unless some convinces me I had a bad stick, I doubt I'll try again. Too many other great cigars, many carried by Neptune, to smoke, and for less money.
