Fernando leon is a very special cigar by La Aurora is a blend that used to be distributed only to friends and family of La Aurora's former president, Don Fernando Leon, the father of the company's current president, Guillermo Leon. The Fernando Leon Family Reserve by La Aurora was launched in 2012 and features a Dominican Corojo wrapper and binder, and Peruvian, Brazilian and Dominican fillers. The cigar is medium to full bodied, with excellent construction and some delectable spice and flavor.

Corojo wrapper was first developed in Cuba in the 1930s and quickly became popular as the wrapper on some of the best cigars. By the end of the 90s, Cuba stopped growing Corojo wrapper because of its susceptibility to pests and diseases. Ironically, Corojo wrapper has since become more popular outside of Cuba, as it has been replicated in tobacco farms in Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.

Ecuador is the perfect place to grow binders, because it is located on the Equator and it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type binders to many cigar factory in the world.
