This Nicaraguan puro sports a medio tiempo wrapper that has been aged for five years over an Ometepe binder and Nicaraguan fillers. Medio tiempo leaves grow on the top most part of the tobacco leaves, and they are considered rare.   When Southern Draw Cigars was founded, they had two goals in mind. The first was to create a memorable cigar with a great draw, and a nice even ash. The other goal was to make a cigar that would go well with boutique wines or craft beers. The Kudzu, Southern Draw’s debut cigar, surpasses both goals. Handmade at AJ Fernandez’s Tabacalera Fernandez factory in Nicaragua, the Kudzu is a full-strength premium cigar that features a double-fermented Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, an Ometepe binder, and filler tobaccos from Nicaragua. Once rolled the Southern Draw Kudzu is expertly aged to bring out its rich, full-bodied flavors of cedar, cocoa, and spice.

  Box-Pressed (Square)

  A box pressed cigar is a cigar that has a square shape. Originally, this shape came from the practice of packing round cigars tightly in cardboard boxes which are then compacted using a manual press. The cigars are thus pressed into each other and become a "squarish" or semi-square shape. Today, cigar makers use square shaped molds or a wooden trunk press for their box pressed cigars, achieving a more defined square section.

  Cuban expatriate AJ Fernandez produces handmade cigars in Esteli, Nicaragua at the Tabacalera Fernandez factory. Fernandez learned everything he knows about tobacco and cigarmaking from his late grandfather, cigar legend Alejandro Robaina.

  Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.
