  The Casa Cuevas Sangre Nueva is the first blend released by Alec Cuevas. He is the grandson of Luis Cuevas Sr., who is the founder of the Casa Cuevas brand. Alec is the fifth generation of this family owned and operated cigar company. Alec dedicated the Sangre Nueva brand to his family for having faith in him as he crafted his first cigar. The cigar is medium to full-bodied, and it features a red-hued Cameroon wrapper that cloaks a Corojo binder, and a filler made of Nicaraguan, Dominican and Pennsylvania Broadleaf tobaccos. The cigars are made in the Dominican Republic at the family’s Tabacalera Las Lavas factory.

  The Tabacalera Las Lavas, SRL is a family owned and operated cigar maker that is located in the Cibao Valley of the Dominican Republic. It is owned by the Cuevas family, who have been in the tobacco business for more than three generations. The factory produces Casa Cuevas, their own brand of cigars, as well as cigars for brands such as Gurkha, Sam Leccia, Veritas Cigars, Bow Tie Cigars, and Good Karma Cigars.

  Cameroon wrappers are grown in the East part of the country. The growing area spreads over the eastern border, into the Central African Republic. Wrappers are air grown, without fertilizers and pesticides, by small farmers. The average plantation size is about one acre. The seed is originally from Sumatra, introduced in the country just after WWII.

  Corojo tobacco was first developed in Cuba in the 1930s and quickly became popular as the wrapper on some of the best cigars. By the end of the 90s, Cuba stopped growing Corojo because of its susceptibility to pests and diseases. Ironically, Corojo has since become more popular outside of Cuba, as it has been replicated in tobacco farms in Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.
