The Foundation Metapa Claro brand was crafted as an homage to the accomplished poet Ruben Dario as well as the Metapa, which means “place of magueys” (a type of agave plant). The plant is often featured in Central American art and mythology. Dario was born in the city of Metapa, which was renamed in his honor to Ciudad Dario. The Metapa Claro cigar features a light-tan Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed wrapper that drapes a USA Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and filler leaves from Esteli and Jalapa, which are two of Nicaragua’s top tobacco-producing regions. This carefully selected three-nation blend offers a medium-strength smoking experience that’s rich in flavor. The cigars are handmade at AJ Fernandez’s Tabacalera Fernandez factory in Nicaragua.

USA Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco is grown in the Connecticut River Valley area. The soil in this region is of glacial origins. The tobacco is dark, oily, flavorful, and aromatic. It is used primarily as a maduro wrapper, but it also serves as an excellent binder.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
