A pleasure to smoke, these cigars are flawlessly constructed and deliver smooth vanilla, cream and nutmeg flavors. The CAO Gold has been rated 90 (Outstanding) by Cigar Aficionado.

With its subtle hint of sweet spice, the CAO Gold is one of the only mild Nicaraguan cigars on the market. Its medium bodied cousin, the CAO Gold Maduro, uses the same blend with a different wrapper, a Brazilian Maduro tobacco leaf. Both cigars are great for the novice, and moderately priced. CAO Gold was rated 90 (Outstanding) by Cigar Aficionado magazine.

This sampler highlights the elegance of Ecuadorian Connecticut wrappers, grown under the country’s natural cloud cover, which acts like a giant shade tent. The result is a silky, golden leaf prized for its smoothness and balance. Unlike U.S. Connecticut Shade, which is grown under cheesecloth tents, Ecuador’s natural cloud cover provides more consistent conditions and lower costs, producing a thinner, smoother wrapper with mellower flavor. Expect notes of cream, cedar, nuts, and subtle sweetness. Ecuador has become the leading source for Connecticut-style wrappers worldwide.

Great sampler.
Fernando Miramontes · Robusto · Mon Jan 05
Very pleasing mild smoke
Aaron Simpson · Robusto · Thu Aug 21
Beautiful wrapper. Smooth smoke. Not a tonne of flavor. Some toasted nuts. Some vanilla creaminess. One I would give to a bud if I was feeling stingy with my good sticks. Burned inside out at first but was a simple fix.
Raphael Calderon · Torpedo · Tue Jun 17
Light clean smoke with nice flavor. However, better Connecticuts out there for the price.

Clean burn, great draw, smooth smoke. Top 5 in my humidor.
Aundre Edwards · Torpedo · Sun Nov 03
This was surprisingly good. Great draw and burn nice and easy smoke
Sam Yakou · Torpedo · Wed May 15
I was disappointed. The draw was very tight, burn was very uneven, and the taste was just ok. Very mediocre, unfortunately.
William · Torpedo · Thu Feb 15
As I pick up the CAO Gold torpedo I feel lots of black pepper and dark-roast coffee notes. Mellow spices and hints of dark chocolate and leather enter. Notes of cedar and butterscotch characterize the retro-hale. After about an inch, the flavors become somewhat salty and citrusy, but still mild to the touch. The second half is nicely balanced. The retro-hale is spicy while an overall creaminess unfolds. The long, lingering finish is a perfect balance of citrus and leather with notes of charred oak but the creaminess from the Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper keeps it really intriguing. And also this cigar would be a perfect pair with a cup of whiskey

After smoking cigars for a few years now, I wasn't sure I would like a milder cigar. This cigar confirmed that you can always go back to milder cigars and really enjoy them. Very flavorful smoke!!

Corby LaCroix · Corona Gorda · Mon Feb 27
always come back to the CAO gold - never disappoints
Graham Scherger · Torpedo · Sun Feb 19
Nice enough flavor but, man the construction was horrible.
Cracks, flaking wrapper throughout the stick. The head fell almost completely apart.
A large, hard stem in the head after a shallow cut.
I’m generally a fan of CAO sticks but this one was as bad as any cigar I’ve had.
And, my large humidor is kept at a steady 68-70% humidity. For the record
Anthony Cavalli · Robusto · Fri Jan 27
Great mild cigar!
Corby LaCroix · Torpedo · Tue Jan 17
A memorable smoke for sure! I liked the pleasant aftertaste - not too harsh - just about right! I pick up notes of cream and coffee...and some nuts mixed in toward the end
Steve Meyers · Corona Gorda · Fri Jan 06
Good draw/ so-so burn. Very smooth with cedar and pepper hints.
Steve Meyers · Robusto · Sun Dec 25
One of the mildest sticks I have tried… but with some flavor, I slight creaminess to it.

Good mild cigar with steady burn and easy draw
Marc Fe-Bornstein · Taster, 5-cigar Sampler · Mon Nov 28
Another hit by CAO. They make great cigars and this is no exception. Prefer the maduro
James Crow · Robusto · Sun Oct 23
Nice Sunday evening smoke despite some issues at the start with the wrapper tearing at the cap. Smoke was smooth and silky with grassy flavors of raisin, leather and nutmet. Burned nicely but unfortunately I had more trouble removing the band which resulted in another tear in the wrapper that ultimately led to me having to abandon it before being able to smoke it down to the nub. :-\
Albert Hixson · Torpedo · Wed Jun 15
Good mild for the price. Lots of smoke and had taste which seems rare in the mild cigar arena. Will be buying again.

Nothing special really, tasted like your average connecticut, mild to medium in strength.
Light bodied with woody elements and lacking any sort of complexity.
Construction wasn't the best which required frequent touch ups.

TC Steinberg · Torpedo · Wed Dec 16
I enjoy a cigar every morning with my coffee, and even though I’m a medium/full body smoker, for the morning smoke I prefer a reasonably priced mild (Connecticut) stick. This totally fits the bill, and will purchase again.
Enjoying one RIGHT NOW as I write this!

Was looking for an affordable “morning with coffee” smoke, and thought I’d give this a try, have always loved anything from CAO. This totally fit the bill, as a mild in the morning smoke, great construction, burn and draw. I’d say it was the perfect size but quite often I’d wish it lasted a little bit longer. Anyway, at a great price, it was okay to put it out if unfinished and needed to take off. And believe it or not, not too bad in the re light. Will purchase again.
Ted Y · Corona Gorda · Tue Feb 18
Thought it was a decent cigar for the price point. I definitely appreciated having it around golfing on a cold day. I’ve enjoyed it but won’t go out of my way for another.

I thought this cigar was just okay in the end. It was very mild to me, didn't have much flavor. But it did burn and draw well.
David Olps · Robusto · Fri Jun 16
Great burn. Nice tasting for a mild to medium cigar, not overpowering at all. Very nice for a beginner or just a change in pace when you want a smooth stick.
Luke Blosser · Robusto · Wed Jun 14
This is a great cigar for the beginner smoker. It is so smooth. The tastes are not overwhelming whatsoever. It starts off with slight spice, but that quickly subsides and turns into a creamy, nutty flavor. This flavor is the major theme throughout the rest of the smoke. The burn stayed razor sharp, and I only had to relight once (due to me getting carried away in a conversation). Overall, this is a very enjoyable cigar for not only the beginner smoker, but the more advanced smoker as well.
Ray Crinzi · Torpedo · Thu May 04
Best draw cigar.
Mark Stenehjem · Corona Gorda · Tue Apr 25
Always a go to smoke. Mild with creamy texture. Vanilla and a hint of cinnamon. Great burn with a nice white ash.
John K. · Robusto · Mon Mar 27
A very nice cigar that has an incredibly even burn and nice consistent flavor. Mild to medium body, with a creamy profile with subtle notes of cocoa and earth. The thing I adore about CAO is their consistency...You know what you are getting and the price is very fair. Good to keep a few of these on hand.
Ray Crinzi · Robusto · Sun Mar 26

This was a really good after-breakfast cigar. Thanks, Austin!
Tom C. · Robusto · Fri Dec 25
In my experience, Cao Gold is one of the better mild cigars you can get at a reasonable price. The construction is solid, the draw is a bit tight but not horrible (as others have mentioned), and the flavor and aroma are mild but pleasant. In fact, it's what I would recommend to someone accustomed to flavored cigars who is looking to try unflavored cigars. And I say this as someone who started out years ago smoking infused cigars (and for that matter, still does). The smoke is smooth and creamy, never harsh, and the overarching flavor is a mild wood. There are hints of a woody vanilla flavor, almost like a bourbon vanilla, which increase as you smoke it. The mild woodiness and subtle vanilla are a combination that will not only appeal to newer/infused smokers, but also make this an all-around decent mild cigar.
Kenneth Kemple · Corona Gorda · Thu Oct 01
good smoke
John Wyatt Chapman · Corona Gorda · Wed Jan 21

Lord Paco · Robusto · Fri Nov 14
I wish I could give this one more than five stars for appearance because I love the deco style graphics on the box and band. Lifting this one out of the humidor takes me right back to a day when a good cigar was a common fixture in any restaurant or speakeasy. This is a beautifully constructed cigar with a perfect draw and a reasonably good burn. Nice smoke output with smooth overtones of nutmeg and alfalfa with only slight undertones of pepper make this a great cigar for someone who appreciates a rich and flavorful, but low strength cigar. Additionally, if you're like me and don't like a cigar that lingers heavily in your mouth, this cigar is a good choice. It has a nice feel in the mouth that sticks just long enough to enjoy, bun not long enough to scare your girlfriend away. Final word: Buy a box of these and put one in your pocket to enjoy with a glass of bathtub gin and some smooth jazz at your favorite speakeasy.

Great mild cigar. Smooth and creamy. Had somewhat of a harder draw, but I like that. Little to no spiciness, which I like and expect from a good mild cigar. The construction and feel was top notch.

This is a nice mild cigar from CAO
· Robusto · Mon Sep 13
Beautifully constructed, but the the smoke that came off the foot while not being puffed was a bit off-putting. Also, the draw was a bit tight.
