Boveda’s two-way humidity control provides a reliable solution to keep cigars fresh and healthy.
It’s easy to know when to replace a pack—simply feel for when it starts to become stiff and hard.
Boveda is more sensitive and accurate in regulating humidity than just distilled water.
Available in multiple relative humidity (RH) levels and sizes to suit different humidors and personal preferences.
No more hassle of refilling traditional humidifiers or constantly monitoring water levels.
Ok great! What do I do now?
1. HOW DOES IT WORK?
Boveda packs use a mix of natural salts and purified water sealed in a two-way membrane. The salt creates a saturated solution that naturally regulates humidity, releasing or absorbing moisture as needed to maintain a precise RH level (+/- 2%) to keep cigars in an ideal environment.
2. IS YOUR HUMIDOR SEASONED?
If your humidor is new, or been out of use for long enough for it to dry out, it's time to season! Using Boveda's 84% packets this process has never been easier. Simply choose the correct quantity (discussed below), remove everything that isn't wood from humidor, and place the 84% packets inside and leave the humidor closed for 2 weeks. Then discard the 84% packets and replace with your selection of 65-75% Bovedas and your cigars! This process has no risk of warping the delicate seal on your humidor or introducing mold like we might in the traditional wipe down method.
3. CHOOSE RELATIVE HUMIDITY LEVEL
Bóveda is available in four different RH levels—65%, 69%, 72% and 75%—allowing consumers choice for their personal preference and/or the moisture-barrier qualities of the humidor. For example, a humidor that doesn't hold moisture very well may need a higher humidity level just to compensate for the higher moisture loss. Ideal humidity is between 65-73%, adjust for preference.
Accuracy: +/- 2%
%RH on Packet | Actual RH Inside Wood Humidor* |
84% | For Seasoning |
75% | 73-77% |
72 | 70-74% |
69 | 67-71% |
65 | 63-67% |
* The resultant RH level is dependent on climate and quality
of humidor.
4. CHOOSE QUANTITY/SIZE OF PACKETS FOR YOUR HUMIDOR
The number of Bóveda
packets to use depends on the cubic volume of the humidor—regardless of how
many cigars are actually storing inside. If you're using a bag, remove most of the air inside, and select for quantity of cigars. Boveda will not harm your cigars and overhumidify past it's stated percentage, so fire away!
As a guide, use one Bóveda packet for every 25 cigars the
humidor can hold. For example, a 50-count humidor would need two Bóveda
packets; a 75-count humidor would need three Bóveda packets, and so on. The
only exception to this guideline is for a small 25-count humidor where a
minimum of two packets is advised due to surface area and volume.
Boveda also sells 8g packets designed for up to 5 cigars, perfect for a travel case!

For humidors made in
China...
Some humidors, although made well, lack the proper moisture
barrier on the bottom-side of the humidor. For some reason, some humidor
manufacturers give great attention to the quality of the sides, top and seal
locations of their humidors but neglect the side that nobody sees—the bottom.
This is particularly common in humidors that are made in China. An enormous
amount of moisture evaporates through the bottom side of many of the humidors
that are made in China because the bottom is merely a thin piece of wood with a
felt covering—and absolutely no moisture barrier coating whatsoever. For these
humidors, you may need to increase the quantity of Bóveda packets in order to
"catch up" to the rate of moisture loss through the bottom.
FAQ
Can I lay the
Bóveda packets directly on top of my cigars?
Yes. Unlike all refillable humidifiers, Bóveda can be placed
directly in contact with your cigars without any risk to them whatsoever. And
since Bóveda emits the cleanest, most purified water-vapor available, and since
they will only emit the perfect amount of water-vapor—not too much and not too
little—the cigars that are in direct contact will never get over-humidified.
Why is my humidity still not right?
The answer to this is long and varied. However, your first steps should be to verify the accuracy of your hygrometer, ensure humidor is seasoned, and considering the quality of your current humidor. Bovedas work on known principles of physics and chemistry, it's extremely unlikely they are the cause of poor humidity readings. Check below for a tutorial on hygrometer calibration!
How long do Bovedas last?
This questions has a couple of answers. As the packet releases humidity when the environment is to dry, and absorbs when over it stated percentage, this varies with the type and quality of the humidor, how often its opened, and how dry the climate you live in is. A rough estimate would be 2-4 months in a traditional cedar humidor, 6-9 months in an airtight humidor (hard plastic), and up to a year in a Boveda bag.
Can I recharge/refill my Boveda packs once they are dry?
Boveda humidity packs can be recharged to extend their use, but once rehydrated the manufacturer cannot guarantee accurate humidity control. Recharged packs may fluctuate, creating the risk of mold or other storage issues. For dependable results, fresh packs are the safer choice. Instructions on recharging methods can be found through online guides, but proceed with caution.
Do I need to
activate the Bóveda packets?
No. Bóveda packets are ready to use when you receive them.
All you need to do is take each Bóveda packet out of the clear over-wrap and
simply place them inside your desktop humidor and you’re done. That's right,
there’s absolutely no work or effort required on your part. By using Bóveda,
you don’t have to adjust any valves or try to figure out if you’ve put in too
much or not enough water and you never have to fill or refill your device with
water again—ever.
What RH level
should I choose?
Choosing the correct Bóveda RH level depends on two
factors—(1) the effectiveness of your humidor, and (2) your own personal taste.
If you smoke cigars from different countries of origin, our recommendation is
to maintain your humidor at 68 to 69%, as this will be a very good level for
all types of cigars and blends. It may take some trial and error to find out if your wood lined humidor can keep this RH with the 69% or 72% pack until you try, again it depends on how much humidity your box loses. In non-wood humidors,
on the other hand, such as hard plastic or Tupperware, the Bóveda packets will
maintain the RH at exactly the level stated on the front of each packet.
