  Blackened Cigars by Drew Estate S84 Shade to Black is a follow-up to the popular M81 cigar. The S84 Shade to Black uses the same USA Connecticut Broadleaf binder and Nicaraguan Maduro and Pennsylvania Broadleaf Maduro filler leaves as the M81 only this time its covered by a smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper. By swapping out the wrapper, the S84 Shade to Black offers a smooth, nuanced, and deliciously inviting smoking journey. The “S” in the name refers to the cigar’s shade wrapper, the “84” is the year Metallica released their “Ride the Lightning” album and “Shade to Black” is a reference to “Fade to Black” a song on the album. Blackened Cigars is a collaboration between three top-tier artisans from three truly diverse fields who share an immense passion for cigars: James Hetfield, singer/songwriter/guitarist of the metal band Metallica, along with Rob Dietrich, master distiller and blender of Blackened Whiskey, and Johnathan Drew, globally recognized cigar crafter and founder/president of Drew Estate.

The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. This climate allows tobacco growers to grow Connecticut-seed wrapper in the shade without shade cloths, resulting in more economical wrapper.
