Chateau Real Shade Gran Templar Toro 6 * 50

Upon lightup, Drew Estate's new Chateau Real proved to be a great choice in the mild-to-medium category. The smoke had a great consistency to it and the cigar had an even burn throughout, but that's not to mention the flavor. Upon lightup it was slightly spicy, but before long that smoothed out into an incredible experience of nuts, wood and cream. This cigar might be on the lighter side of what I usually like to smoke, but that doesn't mean there's not an occasion for everything! The second third continued the smoke's creamy consistency, while also adding notes of wood and subtle sweetness. All in all, it is a great smoke to pair with something like a coffee or beer. The natural sweetness and creaminess would go great with coffee, and it won't overpower the taste of whatever beer you're drinking either. Picked on 01/11/2024

Christian Eiroa and his brand are always releasing quality cigars, and the First 20 Years Colorado Robusto is another one to add to the list. This cigar was released a few years ago, but it's one that I've always wanted to try and I finally got around to it. I'm glad I did. With a very nice Colorado wrapper and 100% Honduran tobaccos, the First 20 Colorado is medium bodied and smooth. Right after lighting I got a nice toasty note, with a small amount of spice. Not overbearing at all though. The burn was perfect, and the draw was excellent. Good aroma on this one, and the toasty note became more pronounced as time went on, almost like warm bread. Not much spice lingered after the initial first inch, and I like the sharp box pressed construction. I detected some nutty earthiness during smoking too. Overall, the First 20 Years Colorado is a great cigar that people looking to try a good puro blend can turn to with confidence. If you are looking for some of Honduras finest, well, you've found it. Erik Espinosa is known for making great cigars. In my opinion, this 601 Maduro Box Press Toro is the one that put him on the map. In case you didn't know, 601 stands for the date when he first launched his line, June 1st. This cigar starts off with a medium-full body strength. A nice spicy note and nutty flavor are also present from the get-go. The draw and taste are awesome so far. The burn is perfect. At the halfway point, the strength picks up to a full body strength. The nutty notes are still present, and I am definitely not complaining. The spicy notes pick up a bit right around now as well. Upon retrohale, you can pick up a nice cedar note. The burn and draw are still going great. Towards the end of the cigar, all the notes mentioned, along with potent full body strength, is still present. The consistency is awesome, and I wouldn't be surprised if its partly due to this stick being a 100% Nicaraguan puro. This is one cigar you should try if you want to go old school. A nice oak whiskey like Johnnie Walker Double Black would pair nicely and hit the spot just right. Enjoy, my friends. Picked on 12/03/2022

Many cigars call my attention the second I see the wrapper. This particular stick comes covered in a white and green paper, so it is obviously hard to see the wrapper before committing. But, just like at Christmas time, once you take off the cover you will be surprised! Luckily, this Los Statos Deluxe Churchill was an awesome, tasty surprise. Matt Booth of Room 101 made a great cigar with Los Statos. Once you light this cigar, you are introduced to a nice woody and oaky flavor. A nice spice is also present. It starts off as a nice medium-full bodied cigar. The draw is fortunately excellent and open. At the halfway point, all the previous notes are still present, and the draw is still great, so consistency is spot on. Not a bad thing at all since so far I'm really enjoying it. The spice comes and goes, but never to the point where it disappears completely. The strength goes up to a full body cigar towards the end of the cigar, and the spice notes finally do go down a bit. The woody and oaky notes are still present. It is difficult to find cigars that are consistent all the way through. I definitely found it here. I would recommend the Los Statos Deluxe to those looking for a good full-bodied spicy cigar with outstanding flavor. Do not be afraid of the wrapping on the cigar. Remember, life is full of surprises... Enjoy guys. Picked on 10/14/2022

As the story goes, Midas had the special ability to turn everything he touched into gold. Well, similarly, AJ Fernandez has the ability to turn everything he touches into greatness. He continues that tradition with the El Rey Del Mundo Limited Edition Toro. No stranger to teaming up with other companies, he has now collaborated with legendary brand El Rey Del Mundo. At first glance, the nice dark wrapper calls your attention with its beauty. Once you light it, you will be glad it called you! At first light, you are introduced to a nice earthy and coffee note. A nice hint of spice is also introduced. Do not be fooled by the light-hued wrapper, it is a medium to medium-full strength cigar. At the half way point, the spice does diminish a bit. The nice earthy and coffee notes are still present, however. A nice nutty flavor does make an appearance. The aroma and the burn are great. Toward the end, the spice does come back a bit, but not too much. The other notes are still present and living in perfect harmony. They all compliment each other to make this a great cigar. Try one today... AJ can do no wrong, and this further proves that! Picked on 09/13/2022

I will admit, when it comes to smoking, I am mostly a creature of habit. I do enjoy my regular rotation, but every once in a while, it is always good to get out of your comfort zone. I did just that with this great cigar. The Liga Undercrown Connecticut Shade Corona is a great mild to medium bodied cigar. The color of the leaf may throw you off a bit, looking very much like a super light cigar. It is not. At first light, you are introduced to a nice hint of spice and woody notes. Upon retro hale, a nice hint of cedar is still also noticeable. The draw on it is smooth and easy. At the halfway point, all the notes and flavors are still present in full force. The burn on it has remained nice and even from the get-go, and the aroma is inviting. Towards the end of the cigar, the spice settles down just a little bit. To sum up, although I purposely went outside the box on this one, I was still secretly hoping that this Undercrown Shade wouldn't be TOO light, and I'm happy to report that this was not the case. I really enjoyed this cigar, and would recommend this stick to anyone looking for a great mild-medium smoke. I would say that this will be a great morning cigar, pairing excellently with a coffee. Not all one night stands have to be a mistake. Caldwell has made one that you will no doubt enjoy. The Lost and Found One Night Stand Toro is a Dominican puro that has had me curious for a while now, so I decided to give it a chance. Besides the nice brown shade on the wrapper, the label is also an eye catcher. Upon first light, a nice mellow flavor of cedar and earth notes are introduced. Small hints of pepper and spice are making their presence felt. The draw on the cigar is great, nice and easy. At the halfway point, a tasty hint of nuts have now made their appearance. The spice notes do go down a bit, while the pepper notes go up a bit to compensate. The earthy notes are still present, while the cedar notes have lessened a bit. At this point, it is still a very enjoyable smoke. Towards the end of the cigar, all the notes are still present, but firing on all cylinders together. The combination of the earthy notes, pepper and nut made this a flavorful experience. If you enjoy a drink with your smoke, try a nice glass of Tomatin to enhance the flavors. Take a chance with this One Night Stand... you won't be ashamed to tell your friends about this one. Picked on 06/25/2022

Let me welcome you to Miami, the place of beaches, parties and cigars. Willie Herrera brings us the Herrera Esteli Miami Short Corona Gorda, a very special cigar that is rolled here at the famous El Titan de Bronze factory in Miami's Little Havana. The rich brown wrapper is definitely an eye catcher. When you light this cigar, you are introduced to a nice combination of cedar and nuts, which compliment each other just right. A small hint of spice makes itself present as well. The medium-body strength I'm finding is awesome, and the draw is very good. The aroma is warm and inviting. At the halfway point, the hints of spice do go up a little bit. Not too overwhelming, but just enough to notice and make this cigar more enjoyable. The notes of cedar and nuts are still present. The right amount of all three of these notes mix well for a delicious wave of flavor. Towards the end of the cigar, everything that I found at the start is still present. I've always said, consistency in a cigar is a good thing! Overall, the Herrera Esteli Miami is an incredible smoke that also happens to have an interesting origin. Find yourself a folding chair, set up somewhere nice with a great drink and enjoy your time in Miami, even if it's vicariously. Picked on 06/08/2022

In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion SMOKES tonight! And he is smoking the Don Lino Africa Kirafu Belicoso. Nestor Miranda and AJ Fernandez have collaborated to bring us this great cigar. At first light, you are immediately introduced to a nice combination of spice and pepper. They actually both compliment each other very well. It's a nice medium to medium-full strength so far. It also has a nice underlying hint of oak and cedar. All of these flavors really bombard your taste buds. At the halfway point, the spice and pepper are still present, and have settled into the overall profile nicely. The strength does go up a bit to a medium full. A nice hint of earth notes are now present to go along with the oak and cedar. Toward the end of the cigar, everything remains constant, which is certainly not a bad thing. It still has the same great draw, flavor and strength. I would definitely recommend this exciting cigar to all my medium-full smokers. Back in the day, when someone would say they were giving you a knuckle sandwich, be afraid. Now you can gladly accept it. It combines some fantastic flavors for an enjoyable cigar. Upon first light, you are introduced to some nice hints of spice, cedar and oakiness. The draw on this cigar is phenomenal, and the burn and aroma are great. At the halfway point, those flavors are still present and as tasty as ever. The construction on this cigar was done perfectly, with a super strong ash and even burn. Towards the end of the cigar, the notes are still consistent and simmering on my palate delightfully. This is one cigar that you can not pass on. I would definitely recommend the Knuckle Sandwich to anyone looking for a great medium-body cigar that was artfully prepared. When Nick Melillo worked for Drew Estate, he created some of the most well known and great tasting cigars around. When he founded Foundation cigars, his legacy grew. Even more so when he created the Tabernacle Havana Seed CT. The oily wrapper of the cigar is the first thing that will catch your attention, dark and rich. At first light, you are introduced to a nice hint of spice, earthy notes and cedar. The aroma it gives off was wonderful. The draw was easy and tasteful. It starts off as a medium-to-full body smoke. Upon retro hale, all of those notes make the cigar come alive, with tastebuds ablaze. At the halfway point, the strength does pick up to a full-body cigar. The spicy notes are still present along with the earthy and cedar notes. With some cigars, either one will diminish. Not here. Towards the end of the cigar, I was astonished with how much flavor and spice was still around. The strength was perfect and welcoming. If you have not had a chance to smoke a Tabernacle cigar from Foundation, I would definitely recommend that you do. It's easily one of my favorite in recent memory. Picked on 02/09/2022

The aroma was enjoyable. At the halfway point of the cigar, the spice diminished a bit, and a nice hint of pepper was introduced. This transition was great. One note did not overpower the other. The cedar notes stayed present. A nice hint of earthy notes introduced itself. The full-body strength was still there. The burn on the cigar was perfect. Towards the end of the cigar, the notes were still present. It made the cigar that much more enjoyable. Many cigars will lose some notes as they hit the final point. Not this one. The flavor, strength and notes combined to make this one great cigar. To those looking for a good full-body cigar, I present to you the Crowned Heads Coalicion Sublime. Enjoy it. As Prince once said... "Let's go crazy". Or in this case, Lunatic. JFR introduces the Lunatic Habano Hombre Libre. This brand has been known lately for their larger ring gauges, but I feel better at home with a more traditional size, so the Hombre Libre fit the bill perfectly. At first light, you are introduced to some earthy notes and hints of coffee. Some spicy notes are also introduced in the beginning, and the draw so far is great. The delicious aroma also made me like the cigar that much more. At the halfway point, the notes mellow down a bit, but not that much, and a small hint of nutty notes are now present in the background too. For me, it made the experience that much better. The spicy notes are still present throughout, and towards the end of the cigar, the strength does go up a bit to make it more of a medium-full cigar. Just to intensify the notes on this cigar even further, I recommend enjoying this cigar with a nice Cuban coffee on the side. The aroma is great also. The Brazilian wrapper gives it a great taste. The medium to full-strength had me wanting more. At the halfway point, all the flavors are still there. The strength does go up a bit. The spice notes do go up a bit too. But not overwhelming. Just enough to make the smoke more enjoyable. Towards the end of the cigar, the strength stays the same. Perdomo has always been known for making good cigars, and this one is no exception. What caught my attention first was the size of this cigar. The Inmenso, which translated means 'enormous', is just that. Enormous in size and flavor. It starts off with nice sweet notes, while also showing some hints of cedar. It starts off with a nice medium-full strength. A nice roasted coffee note is also present at the beginning. What I also liked is that for a cigar this size, it has a great draw and construction. At the half way point, the flavors that were found at the start are still present, while some hints of spice are introduced. The draw is still astonishing, and because it is such a fat cigar, it is a slow burner too, which is also something I liked. Toward the end of the experience, the strength does pick up to a completely full bodied cigar. Again, all the great flavors that I found at the beginning are still present. As I mentioned earlier, the strength has picked up by now as well. Towards the end of the cigar, the cocoa does diminish a bit and gives way to a superb leathery note. Again, the cigar stays true to its consistency. Good flavor and balanced strength throughout. I would definitely recommend the Macanudo Inspirado Green to anyone searching for a fantastically well-rounded medium to full-bodied premium smoke at an incredible price. Picked on 07/22/2020

But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east and the new Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua is the sun. This great cigar is made by the formidable combination of tobacco gurus Rafael Nodal and AJ Fernandez. The first thing that caught my attention was its beautiful wrapper. Not even one puff in and expectations are already high! At first light, you are introduced to a nice woody flavor, with a smooth medium-body strength profile. A small hint of pepper is present also. Half way through the cigar, I notice the cedar and pepper mix is still there, but never did I become bored or hoping for a change, as the rich flavor was enough to make the cigar enjoyable for its entire duration. What I did notice was the strength picks up a little bit midway to classify it as a medium-full body smoke. Another worthy note is this cigar's delicious aroma, which had more than one passer-by ask what I was smoking. All in all, the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua is a fantastic stick that all fans of either Rafael or AJ will definitely enjoy. Picked on 05/30/2020

JFR Lunatic El Chiquito Maduro When guys talk about cigars, they all say size matters. Well, let me tell you that when it comes to this cigar, that does not imply. The name of the cigaris El Chiquito, meaning small. But it is packed with a lot of flavor and strength. Besides the size, the oily and dark wrapper is also an eye catcher. Upon lighting it, the Mexican San Andreas wrapper introduces you to a nice cedar and woody flavor. It starts off as a medium to full body flavor. A little spice is present at first. Half way throgh the cigar, the spices does deminish a bit. But the cedar and woody flavor are still present. At this point, the strength does go up to a full body taste. The flavors and strength are consistent from mid point til the end. For such a small cigar, it does pack a big punch. It will be crazy for those full body smokers to pass this up. Rocky Patel has always been known for making good quality and good tasting cigars. He did not disappoint with his new creation, the Rocky Patel ALR Second Edition. This cigar packs a good punch. At first glance, the nice dark wrapper calls your attention. But once you light it and start to smoke it, the flavor and strength will really grab you. It has a Mexican San Andres wrapper, which to those that have smoked it before, know that there is a good amount of strength there. Its binder is Nicaraguan. The filler is also Nicaraguan, coming from Esteli and Jalapa. At first light, you are introduced to a great full body taste. Some hints of pepper and cedar are introduced. It continues through the halfway point where now a woody taste is introduced. The pepper does diminish a bit, but is still present. Towards the end, some hints of creaminess are present. All Rise... My Father Cigars has introduced The Judge. This great Nicaraguan cigar has an Ecuadorian Sumatra Oscuro wrapper, a Nicaraguan Corojo binder, and Nicaraguan filler. This combination gives the cigar a nice medium to medium-full body and powerful taste. At first light, you are introduced to a nice medium tobacco flavor. Hints of pepper are introduced along with some hints of oak and cedar. The pepper is not an overwhelming amount, just enough to entice the palate. At halfway through the cigar, a nice hint of spice is introduced. Again, not overwhelming. It compliments the flavors that you are enjoying from the first part of the cigar. As we approach the end of the cigar, the spice diminishes a little. You will still taste it, but not as much as before. All the other flavors are still there, while the strength does pick up a little. This is a great cigar for those who enjoy a good medium to medium-full body smoke. Try it. I am sure you will like it! I enjoyed smoking the Don Lino Africa when it was originally first available. As a previous fan, I was very happy to see that they brought this great cigar back. My hopes were high, as it was made for Nestor Miranda by the highly respected AJ Fernandez in Esteli. At first light, you are introduced to a nice medium bodied tobacco flavor. After a few puffs, you find a smooth combination of creaminess and cedar. The taste and flavor are consistent all throughout the cigar. At the halfway point, a nice hint of oak is brought in to add to the flavor that's already present. The combination of a Habano 2000 wrapper, African Cameroon Binder and a combination of fillers like Piloto Dominicano, Ometepe, Jalapa and Esteli-based tobacco gives this cigar a great profile that everyone will enjoy. I would definitely recommend this cigar to those that have smoked it in the past, along with introducing a new group to this delicious smoke. Picked on 12/02/2019

The Trinidad Espiritu Toro is a Nicaraguan cigar made by AJ Fernandez. Its wrapper, binder and filler are all Nicaraguan. The first thing that caught my eye on this cigar was the colorful band. Then I noticed the color of the cigar itself, a very nice brown color. I was intrigued that much more. At first light, the taste was great. Little hints of cream and small hints of pepper introduced themselves. It has a great aroma and flavor. The burn was good also. At the half way point, the pepper hints diminishes. But then I am introduced to some earthy notes. The creamy flavor is still present. That combination is making the cigar that much better. Towards the end of the cigar, all of that flavor is still present. It is hard to find cigars nowadays that are this consistent. Anyone looking for a great medium body cigar made by AJ Fernandez, I would definitely recommend the Trinidad Espiritu Toro. Picked on 11/05/2019

Nestor Miranda has had a great reputation with making incredible cigars. This is one of those instances yet again. The first thing that caught my eye with this cigar was the dark rich color that it has. The Nestor Miranda Special Selection Rosado Gran Toro is a medium to full-body cigar. It has a Nicaraguan Habano Rosado wrapper, Nicaraguan Criollo '98 binder, and a combination of Nicaraguan Condega, Esteli, and Jalapa fillers. Upon first light, you are introduced to a nice pepper note, along with an earthy, cedar profile. The pepper taste never becomes overwhelming, but is just enough for you to enjoy the cigar throughout. The aroma of the Nestor Miranda Special Edition Rosado was outstanding, and had a nice even burn to it from start to finish. For being a big cigar, it had a great draw to it. Midway through, the pepper does diminish a bit, although the other flavors are still present - and I was also introduced to a nice coffee taste that really enhanced its flavor. The cigar stayed consistent all the way to the end. It had the flavor and strength that made this cigar very enjoyable. I would absolutely recommend this cigar to anyone looking for a fantastic medium to full body cigar. Picked on 08/19/2019

Although I was already betting on a satisfying smoke, what first caught my eye about this cigar was its beautiful color and texture. Christian Eiroa has always done a great job in that aspect when it comes to his cigars. Once I lit this cigar, I was introduced to a nice medium tobacco flavor and hints of spice. The combination of its Honduran wrapper, filler and binder give this puro its nice unique taste. Halfway through the cigar, the spice diminished a little bit, while the earthy flavor I found in the beginning of the cigar is still present and stays consistent throughout the rest of the experience. I would definitely recommend this new offering from Eiroa to anyone looking for a good medium-bodied cigar with a high-quality, traditional profile. Picked on 07/03/2019

Willie Herrera, master blender for Drew Estate, has always had a knack for knowing what smokers like. He has come out with his latest creation: the Herrera Esteli Miami. This cigar has everything a medium to full body smoker is looking for. When I first saw the Piramide, it quickly called my attention with its perfect figurado construction and seamless dark brown wrapper. Once I lit the cigar, I quickly had delicious notes of oak and earth greet me. The Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, the Ecuadorian binder and Nicaraguan filler gave the cigar a wonderful taste that I have not found in a while. The cigar is consistent throughout. The aroma is welcoming. I especially liked the fact that once it was lit, I did not have to relight it. That says a lot about its construction, brought to you by the highest level Cuban rollers found in Miami (where the cigar is actually made). This is one cigar that you all should try out. I am sure you will fall in love with it as I did. Picked on 06/10/2019

I believe it is hard to bring a cigar back to life once it is off the market. Kristoff has changed my mind completely about that. I present to you the Kristoff Vengeance! This is a great cigar for those looking for a great medium to full-body smoke. The changes they made to this cigar compared to the original are all in the right direction. They gave it a nice, oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The pigtail cap makes it intriguing also, making it easy to just twist off instead of cutting the cigar in the traditional way (And yes, you still get the same amount of smoke.) They also gave it an Indonesian binder and the mixture of Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers. This combination gives it a great, complex taste. You are introduced to some hints of espresso upon the first light. As you get to the half way point of the cigar, a nice hint of creamy cocoa makes its presence known. That combination kept me wanting to smoke more of the cigar and see what else would unfold. Toward the end of the cigar, the espresso is still present, along with the cocoa, with hints of earth and leather making their way in. Overall, very consistent. Anyone searching for a great medium to full-bodied smoke, I will definitely recommend the Kristoff Vengeance. Picked on 03/29/2019

When you think Liga, you may think of the No. 9, T52, or the infamous Flying Pigs. But, they also have this little gem called the Liga Undercrown Connecticut. At first glance, you'll likely think 'mild cigar'. I know I did. Never judge a book by its cover! This cigar surprised me. It's actually a smooth medium to medium-bodied cigar. It has a smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, with a Sumatra binder and combination of a Dominican Criollo 98, Nicaraguan Corojo, and Criollo fillers that really enhance the cigar's flavor. At first light, you are introduced to some cedar notes and some earth tones. It's different from what I have smoked before. Half way through the cigar, some spice is introduced. Not enough that will want to make you stop smoking, but just enough to make the cigar still enjoyable. The cedar notes are still present approaching the final third, and the spice does not overwhelm the flavor at any point. Toward the end of the cigar, you still get that nice flavor of cedar and earth tones. This, my friends, is a truly great cigar made by Willy Herrera that I'm sure most smokers will appreciate. Pick one up today and see for yourself. Picked on 03/01/2019

Don Pepin has done it once again with La Gran Oferta. What a great medium to full-bodied cigar! From the first light, a nice taste of oak and hint of spice are introduced. It has a great draw which is a plus. At the half way point of the cigar, the oaky flavor is still present. The spice kicks up a little to make the cigar more flavorful. A nice hint of chocolate is now present. The ash has a nice silver color to it, and it's still standing strong, which shows the cigar has a great construction to it. As you get down to the last part of the cigar, the strength kicks up a little. The oak flavor is still present. The spice also gets a little stronger, though not enough to make you put the cigar down, but just enough to make you want to continue smoking! The hint of chocolate is also present. Anyone looking for a great medium to full-bodied cigar with the right amount of spice and flavor, I will definitely recommend La Gran Oferta Toro Gordo by My Father Cigars. Picked on 02/15/2019

Since I can always appreciate a fine piece of art, the first thing about the Back2Back URNY Nicaragua that caught my eye was the beautiful design on the box. Then I actually saw the cigar, with the same colorful art design on its foot. Davidoff did a fantastic job getting my attention with this little artistic touch. This medium to full-bodied cigar has all Nicaraguan components, so I had a feeling it would be incredibly rich. Fortunately, I was not wrong. When I first lit the cigar, a nice hint of coffee and chocolate greeted me. Entering the second third of the cigar, I was introduced to a nice cedar and cream flavor, all while still tasting the hints of chocolate and coffee. All of these flavors complimented each other perfectly, and never overpowered one another. The draw on the Back2Back was spectacular, and the burn was mostly even the entire way. The last third of the cigar was great, with all the flavors from before still present while introducing a smooth leathery texture towards the end. Very consistent stick all the way through, and excellent construction to boot, which is to be expected from an industry leader such as Davidoff. Enjoy! Picked on 01/14/2019

When the world first met Oscar, it was via the Leaf by Oscar, a bonafide hit in and of itself. With the introduction of the Oscar Valladares Ciseron, Oscar has outdone himself big time. From the first puff, your palate is introduced to a nice, creamy taste that contains subtle notes of pepper and cocoa. As this medium-bodied cigar continues, the pepper subsides a bit and leads way to a delicious coffee flavor. By the end of the smoke, the creamy notes of coffee and cocoa had intertwined to become more of a silky mocha, and I was happy to report that construction was spot-on and no relights were needed. I gladly recommend the Oscar Valladares Ciseron to anyone looking for a solid, creamy, medium-bodied cigar, which also happens to have beautiful, limited-run artwork by Honduran artist Elmer Ciseron Bautista. Enjoy. Picked on 10/01/2018
