To celebrate more than a century of being the Dominican Republic’s first and oldest premium cigar crafter, La Aurora Cigar Company has released the La Aurora 115th Anniversary cigar. Sporting an exquisite Dominican Colorado-Maduro Corojo wrapper that is artfully draped over a Dominican binder, which contains a unique blend of long-filler tobaccos from Brazil and the Dominican Republic, the La Aurora 115th Anniversary is a medium-strength stick with a flavor profile that is cause for celebration. But hurry, the La Aurora 115th Anniversary is a very limited edition cigar: only 500 boxes of the Belicoso and 250 jars of the Gran Toro are available in the United States.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Corojo wrapper was first developed in Cuba in the 1930s and quickly became popular as the wrapper on some of the best cigars. By the end of the 90s, Cuba stopped growing Corojo wrapper because of its susceptibility to pests and diseases. Ironically, Corojo wrapper has since become more popular outside of Cuba, as it has been replicated in tobacco farms in Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.

The main tobacco region in the Dominican Republic is the Cibao valley in the northern part of the island. In the 60s, Cuban seeds were brought here by exiled Cuban cigar makers and found that they grew exceptional cigar tobacco, called Piloto Cubano. The native Dominican tobacco, called Olor, is milder than Piloto Cubano yet more aromatic. The first company to grow Dominican tobacco for cigar wrapper was Tabacalera Arturo Fuente in 1995.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Dominican Republic is a traditional tobacco-growing country. In the 60's, a Cuban seed was introduced and the resulting tobacco, called Piloto Cubano, became famous as a good substitute of the Cuban tobacco that was no longer allowed to enter the USA. Piloto Cubano is full bodied while the Dominican Olor tobacco is milder but more aromatic.

Brazil
Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Brazil produces rich, medium to strong, dark tobaccos with a sweet taste and aroma. Most of the cigar production is concentrated on the eastern coast of Brazil, in the state of Bahia.

This is by far the most beautiful cigar box i have ever seen in my whole life to date! The presentation and the quality of the lacquered box is incomparable. The velvet cover as well as the inner cedar wood.....not to talk about the cigar itself....La Aurora never fails!!!

Not worth the hype. It is a nice rustic veiny cigar. However the flavor was forgettable and got harsh towards the end. Burn was wavy/inconsistent with some relights. For the price and hype, I expected a lot more. I recently smoked the EP Carillo Valientes which frankly was an all-around more flavorful torpedo / belicoso (reminded me a lot of an Oliva Melano) at a better value. I would put the New World Puro above this as well. Maybe I am not liking Dominican leaves as much as the Nicaraguan ones, but this just left me flat given the glowing reviews and the price. It's not a bad stick, just not great at the level I was expecting. Have a 2nd one in the humidor to see how it does with more time.

The first review. This is a flat out excellently constructed, delicious and classic style cigar. On my first puff I was reminded immediately of the best Puro Vintages of La Aurora I've had. Just a smooth, flavorful and relaxing smoke with rich aromatics. I'm glad I bought it, yes it's worth the price, and I'll be buying more. I would not be surprised to see a 93+ rating for it. Worth the try!
