Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Love the look of this one. Dual bands and a branded cedar sleeve. Wrapper leaf is tight & real toothy. It's basically sandpaper with a resinous sheen. vcut and lit up. Dynamic first puffs full of spicy pepper, malt, cedar, rich earth. this is definitely an AJ stick. Burn is razor sharp and the ash stack is picturesque. so far in the first third I'm very impressed! in the second third there's some rich chocolate and espresso notes joining the blend, as well as a salty pretzel finish/retrohale. At the end of the second third.. I'm wondering what I could ding it a star on. Smoking like a champ and a true delight. Into the final third, bands removed with ease. Burn somehow is still straight as an arrow. Love how the back of the bands have the signature, a nice touch. Flavors more of the same with a bit more black coffee, and distinct base of cedar. I'm doing it. My first 5-star across the board. looking for flaws and coming up short in every aspect. A wonderful smoking experience from start to finish. Spent just over an hour with it, and will gladly do so again!

Overwhelmingly peppery taste when first lit and lasts about one inch into the cigar. Starts to develop more earthy flavours and balances out as it smokes through. Excellent quality and construction. Perfect burn and draw. No relights or touch ups either.

This cigar has such an easy pull. With a surprisingly smooth taste too! Considering it’s got notes of coffee and spice, I was pleasantly impressed with the taste of each draw to the very end! Perfect burn the entire stick. Smoked right to the last inch. Superb smoke. Draw was ok and no problems but could have been slightly easier. However, still easy to get good smoke volume. The ash was very solid and nice. Good they use a decent cap so you can adjust cut if needed for draw without losing the cap. No touch up needed, solid and even burn. I’d say this is in my top 15 cigars. Will buy again. RH 68%\70F.

Like Charles I below I also was expecting more peppery zing but found it more medium creamy and nutty with cedar and coffee. Excellent construction and presentation with a consistent burn but I had slight issues with the draw. Started tight and cut it slightly higher which loosened it up a bit. A very pleasant taste and aroma nonetheless.

This smoke was deceiving in a sense that I expected a more "powerful" smoke based on the dark wrapper appearance and the "full" strength rating. Instead I enjoyed and flavorful nutty earthy taste that became more apparent during the last third of the stick.

By far one of the best Nica Puros out there on the market in my opinion. Everything was enjoyable, from the packaging to the bands, and down to the actual smoking experience itself. AJ is a master blender and did a fantastic job with this one. If you like strong-full bodied smokes, give this a try. Def box worthy.

This enjoyable smoke received a positive recommendation from Luz a while back. Glad to have followed her lead here! This robusto didn't need any time to "warm up", but delivered a superior, smooth flavor right from the gitgo. Spiciness does comes into play during the middle third, creating additional interest. Thus far, Ramon Allones is my favorite AJF inspired cigar of the several brands I've sampled- heartily recommended.

I prefer the Robusto in this line to this size, but this is also a good stick, has a very nice sweetness to it, not too heavy, about a medium smoke, the darker wrapper would have think its heavier then it is. Its an AJ stick, so you cannot go wrong with it.

This is one of the best cigars I’ve smoked all year. You get cocoa, almonds, earth, roasted coffee and a really nice peppery spice . The burn was razor sharp. I didn’t have to touch it up at all.

Ok Cigar. Good draw and burn. Full bodied smoke. First third, wavy burn with a flaky ash. Coffee, nut, dry woody, bitter tobacco. Second third burn evened out. Bitter hazelnut/tobacco, charred wood. Final third, bitter tobacco/wood, some dry cocoa powder and a spicy zing.

Have purchased several boxes of the Ramon Allones by AJ Fernandez over the past year since first trying one. It's my "go to" favorite, just a wonderful and consistent flavor profile. The construction is awesome and tight, I find the draw on it reflects the tightness, but it's worth it as I love a tightly constructed cigar. Can't go wrong with this cigar, and for me, it's always a special occasion when I smoke them! ;-}

Have smoked about 15 of these works of art. My opinion of this cigar is much greater than Cigar Aficianado magazine, they rate it as #25 for 2018. Perfectlyrolled and constructed, presice burn, no re-lights. With .05” of ash the stalwart full flavored punch comes through. Very complex; earth, cedar, espresso coffee, and a roasted flavor that I can’t attribute. Just a hint of sweetness sneaks through to add to the complexity of this creation. Truly a magnificent cigar and evidence of stiff competition among the top cigar magicians! I won’t be without this cigar in the future. It is clearly a mid to upper 90’s rated cigar in my view. Let it rest in a good humidor for a couple weeks at 65%! Smoke it slowly! Fine dusty ash tells me even more about this beauty. Highly recommend to an experienced smoker.. probably not best for rookies. TREMENDOUS Cigar!

Upon first light it’s bold flavors galore. Deep earth, spice, pepper and wood. It does mellow out as you smoke it. I got almost 2 hours out of it so it’s great value. It’s just a bit strong for me

To be honest, I can name 3 cigars that have Cuban counterparts that I would smoke, let alone buy. But after hearing nothing but good things about this cigar, as well as being a Staff Pick by Luz — who seems to have a very similar palette as I do whenever I see her “Picks” — I had to one try one. Initial thoughts, even looking at it now, is that there is m way too much going on, almost covering the entire cigar itself. But once you get past all of that, you’ll find yourself with a wonderful cigar. It made me think of how much I love(d) AJ Fernández sticks, the San Lotano line especially, when I started smoking. And this cigar brought me back to those days of being willing and wanting to try anything and everything. Glad I did with this one. That’ll now make it 4 cigars that I can name. Just try it!

A bit spicier than it's Cuban namesake, with a fair amount of pepper on the tongue, and some wood from the wrapper. All-in-all a solid smoke.

Ramon Allones is one of the oldest brands founded in 1837. I am delighted to see this version of the brand by AJ Fernandez see the light. This brand was one of his father's favorite cigar when they lived in Cuba. Since this cigar uses a Medio Tiempo wrapper, its production is limited to the availability of this rare leaf. When you first see this cigar, you'll notice immediately the dark chocolate brown wrapper and your first instinct will be to think that it must be strong. Scratch that. The dark hue in this cigar does not signal a full bodied smoke. To me, this is a medium bodied cigar that is sweet and nutty with some spice and strong leather in the palate. Allow this beautiful stogie to rest for 1-2 months in your humidor and enjoy the flavor bomb that is Ramon Allones.
