Monte by Montecristo opens up a new chapter for the classic Montecristo cigar brand, as did the earlier release of Romeo by Romeo y Julieta from the same manufacturer, Altadis USA. The cigar is exquisite, handmade with the use of two flavorful binders instead of one. The Nicaraguan Corojo binder and the spicy Dominican Olor binder complement one another, while aged fillers from the Dominican Republic farms in Villa Gonzales and La Canela give punch and complexity to this well-balanced cigar.

The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

Dominican Republic Olor
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Dominican Republic is a traditional tobacco-growing country. Dominican Olor tobacco is mild flavored but very aromatic.
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Dominican Republic
Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

So I got a free 5pk with a box purchase of Romeo & Juliets from Neptune. Here’s the thing, they are packed Sooooooo tight! They are described as “full bodied” but with the limited amount of smoke you get on a draw they really come across as mild. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful cigar but it feels like work to smoke it.

Actually good construction with this montecristo—I’ve found most montecristos have some real problems here, so this one was a stand out. Nice even burn all the way down, and a near perfect draw. Not much to look at—as usual the bands were unevenly applied, and the wrapper had plenty of nicks and general unevenness to it. That said, really nice aroma. Good flavor.

This will be the third time I've had this sampler and its become a tradition to order it every holiday season. Both times I was pleased with 8 and only mildly disappointed with 1. Offers a good cross section of choices with varying flavors and strengths. My personal favs are the Monte and the Banker but there is something in this sampler for everyone. first time ordering it from Neptune and got it fast with no issues at all.

Fine cigar. Burns even, draws well, and there's no bitterness at the end. The only drawback on this stick was I had a small problem with charring and had to cut it away. I enjoyed this cigar and would recommend it to friends.

This is my go to sampler. I have never been disatisfied with this one. The cigars are always fresh and ready to smoke. Smooth dry draw with no binding, wrapper is smooth and there is a nice aroma, easy lighting with smooth burn. I have yet to have to fix a crooked burn. It is a must try.

My favorite Monte smoke I think ever. I love a well constructed box press. This one has a bit of a tight draw initially, but it loosens as you smoke it. It burns wells and I really enjoy the flavor. Top notch smoke.

This cigar is always a must in my humidor --The flavor is amazing due to the double binder!! I have never had a burn or draw problem. For a fuller body cigar the flavor is smooth. Whenever I am out in public smoking this cigar people who do not even smoke or like cigars tell me how good the aroma is!! I highly recommend this cigar!

Excellent stick. Living in Australia I had previously been able to try the Cuban Montecristo #2. It was ridiculously priced. I only tried the one because it was CA's #1 cigar for 2013. It was very good, but I don't find the Dominican Monte #2 to be any less of a cigar. One major difference is the box press on this Monte. This first one has a very tight draw, a little tighter than I prefer. It does want to go out after a few minutes if I leave it sit. But anyone wanting something comparable to a Cuban or a Cuban version, this is the cigar. The flavour is slightly more peppery but the Leathery qualities are identical. I will be getting more of these.
