To celebrate their long and successful history in the Dominican Republic, Davidoff created the Dominicana, whose filler is made of Dominican tobaccos that were harvested in 2014. This limited release cigar emphasizes the richness of Dominican tobacco. It has a smooth natural Dominican Hybrid-257 wrapper that is grown in the Yamasa region of this Caribbean island nation. This specially cultivated wrapper is draped over an Ecuadorian Hybrid 151 binder. The filler is composed of five of the finest vintage tobaccos grown in the Dominican Republic: Corojo 99 Seco, Piloto Viso, San Vicente Mejorado Seco, San Vicente Seco, and Yamasa Viso. The cigars are hand crafted at the Cigars Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
The main tobacco region in the Dominican Republic is the Cibao valley in the northern part of the island. In the 60s, Cuban seeds were brought here by exiled Cuban cigar makers and found that they grew exceptional cigar tobacco, called Piloto Cubano. The native Dominican tobacco, called Olor, is milder than Piloto Cubano yet more aromatic. The first company to grow Dominican tobacco for cigar wrapper was Tabacalera Arturo Fuente in 1995.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow binders, because it is located on the Equator and it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type binders to many cigar factory in the world.

Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

As with all Davidoff, perfect construction and a great very good cigar overall. I like this 2014 is bit bolder with lots of spice, eart and chocolate notes. Certainly not a value smoke but IMO a reasonable price .
