After the spectacular success of the original Enclave, AJ Fernandez has now turned to the dark side. Introducing the Enclave Broadleaf, Fernandez's first cigar to use a broadleaf maduro wrapper. While the first version focused on flavor versus strength, this tasty Nicaraguan offering chooses to provide plenty of both, as its dark and oily broadleaf wrapper gives the blend a booster shot into full-bodied territory. Black pepper and leather dominate the experience, and notes of cedar balance out what is sure to be another home run for AJ Fernandez's ever-growing presence in the premium cigar industry.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

USA Connecticut Broadleaf
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Connecticut Broadleaf is grown in the United States' Connecticut Valley and is prized for its dark, oily, full flavored and aromatic characteristics. The plants are grown in full sun giving this cigar wrapper its characteristic sweetness. The Connecticut Broadleaf plant leaves are mainly processed as maduro tobacco. Today, Connecticut Broadleaf seeds are being grown in other countries besides the United States.
Binder
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Anthony So in the specifications it says 30 and the picture shows 30 but the description says 40 cigars so is it 40 or 40?

NeptuneCigar.com This sampler contains 40 cigars total. The cigars included are a mix of: Bellas Artes Maduro, Enclave Broadleaf, New World, New World Connecticut, San Lotano Connecticut, and San Lotano The Bull. All the cigars are Toro size.

Another goodie from AJ Fernandez. This has been my consistent #2 go-to until I smoked the Trinidad also by AJ Fernandez, so this has moved to my #3 option. Great taste, good complexity. Seems to require a lot of re-lights and the draw can be a bit tight but still very smokable.

Like the descriptions says the Maduro wrapper is oily and sweet. It also has a nice spicy aroma. There is a hefty feel to this cigar with a larger than normal cut needed to obtain a smooth draw. The taste is filled with black peppercorn and cedar with a smooth creamy finish. This is an outstanding value considering the $7.65 price tag. Enjoy.

Another hit from AJ Fernandez. No matter what brand he produces for it's always quality. Hit me strong after lighting then smoothed out to medium to strong. Spicy and aromatic. Draw a little tight but still satisfying. Burn remained consistent throughout. Smoked it outside with some Jack n firepit on crisp autumn day and tasted great. Cant go wrong with an AJ Fernandez blend...

Beautiful presentation, well built, with the smell of a stable before lighting, looking like a farm smell, very pleasant. Spice and black pepper in the first third. Interesting flavors of spices and a lot of complexity, open draw with 100% regular burning. White ash with lots of smoke. Good cigar. 105 minutes.

I have smoked this in a smaller size previously. It is mostly the same, this is a lot of pepper and earth/leather and and some chocolate mixed in on flavor notes, but smooth, and a little bite on the retro-hale which I was expecting. Wrapper is nice and dark, a little grit and oily sheen on it. This burned well and had a good draw. For a stronger stick has some complexity to it.

Really just a solid, very good maduro. Not a ton of depth or spice (though it definitely spiced up in the 2nd half), but really well-made and smooth especially through 1st half. In similar price range I got more "zazz" out of the Mi Querida and CAO Camshaft V19, but this was pleasant and I have another in the humidor to see how it does with some time. Worth a try, just don't expect socks blown off.

This is a cigar with true grit. Literally! The wrapper has a distinctive texture. The smoke had a mild aroma. It tasted of sweet leather accentuated with chocolate. It had a little bitterness which I think was related to a minor burn issue. I enjoyed it!

The original Enclave is probably the only AJ smoke I didn't care for, but this broadleaf is a BIG improvement. Very bold earthy/dark chocolate/pepper flavors. I wouldn't smoke this one in the morning but the flavors and construction are very good.
